My husband and I discovered this at Xmas after getting Season 1 DVD from his elderly uncle (how cool is said elderly uncle) and we are completely addicted. We're on Season 4 now - anyone else addicted too?

OP posts:
CheeeseOnToast · 16/03/2010 15:34

I watched all seasons in a matter of weeks - it's utterly, utterly brilliant.

I'm actually jealous that you get to watch it with virgin eyes

McNulty is HOT too

eastendmummy · 16/03/2010 15:35

We've watched all (5?) series and loved them! We used to watch 3 or 4 episodes at a time. It was almost a relief when we watched them all as we got our evenings back.

If you haven't already, you should watch The Shield - equally if not more addictive.

crispycake · 16/03/2010 17:25

we got hooked too!

We found it on HBO on demand. We watched series 1 the last episode on friday and we cant wait for series two to start.

boogeek · 16/03/2010 17:26

Yeah - I bought DH the box set for his birthday, we've just started season 4 too. Does anybody else find it takes about 3 episodes of each new season before you can understand anything anybody says?

tallulahbelly · 16/03/2010 18:48

I loved it. Season 4 is the school one, isn't it? I liked that the best.

Subtitles are the way to go for the dialogue.

I love Omar.

yama · 16/03/2010 18:53

Another who watched all 5 seasons in a matter of weeks.

You can't go wrong with HBO. We've just finished Deadwood which I wasn't keen start but absolutely loved it.

We are now watching Homicide Season 1 which predates The Wire. It's funny - as it is set and filmed in Baltimore I feel I 'know' it. The streets, the accents, the attitude, the issues.

yama · 16/03/2010 18:54

keen to start

Differentfrom · 16/03/2010 19:38

The Wire - bloody excellent. Deadwood - also bloody excellent. Such a revelation about Ian McShane. Anything HBO worth a look, I say.

yama · 16/03/2010 20:26

Ian McShane is amazing in Deadwood. Such an intriguing, complex character.

I just loved the language too. The eloquent, elegant dialogue of some characters against the stunted grunts of the other ones. Can't believe they didn't make a fourth series.

Loujalou · 16/03/2010 22:05

I nearly cried when The Wire finished. Was the best thing ever. Still I have got House though not as good. I love Omar and most of the characters really.

SuSylvester · 16/03/2010 22:06

got to episode 2 and got bored

assumetheposition · 16/03/2010 22:59

Am sitting here watching series 3.

We watched it last year but, to be honest, DS2 was a newborn and I can honestly say I didn't have a clue what was going on until about half way through series 2. But then I was hooked.

Now we are watching it again, with subtitles and less sleep deprived and I get it all now

Clearly the best thing that has been on tv for years.

FoxtrotOscarJuliet · 16/03/2010 23:01

what does hbo on demand mean? is that better than downloading it? I do worry that i'm going to get a fine for several million euro one day.

hophophippidtyhop · 17/03/2010 06:40

Have just finished season one, totally addicted! We started this after watching The Shield - which is excellent. Watched Homicide a few years ago, also fab. When you see that HBO logo come up, you can't go wrong! (Also watching Hung on channel 4 by them).

Akiko · 17/03/2010 07:35

Please, someone, explain how does On Demand work? Is it on the Internet or on TV?

mehdismummy · 17/03/2010 07:46

Clayhead · 17/03/2010 07:50

'and the councillor that says "ssssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee"'

Did you realise he also pops up in the film 'Enchanted'?! Strange to see him in such a different context!

mehdismummy · 17/03/2010 07:54

CheeeseOnToast · 17/03/2010 12:08

It's all in the game, y'all.

loujay · 17/03/2010 12:15

We are half way through season 3 and are LOVING IT!!!!............I have a crush on Stringer Bell and LOVE Omar...........keep talking wire speak with DH at home though, which is particularly strange as we are neither american, police, black or drug dealers!!

chicaguapa · 17/03/2010 12:17

I have to put the subtitles on AND look at the episode summaries online for the first 5 or so episodes or I just don't have a clue what's going on. Makes you yearn for signposted recaps, doesn't it?

Loujalou · 17/03/2010 12:18

I could watch all again but might wait another year. Or wait til this new series is out. Seeing Freemon in Holby City was very weird.

AppleTreeWick · 17/03/2010 12:40

oh indeed

Francagoestohollywood · 17/03/2010 12:57

I'm another The Wire addict. I discovered it late and finished viewing it a week ago.
I can't stop thinking about it . I love everything about it and need to talk about it.
