My husband and I discovered this at Xmas after getting Season 1 DVD from his elderly uncle (how cool is said elderly uncle) and we are completely addicted. We're on Season 4 now - anyone else addicted too?

the movie is great. Rachel Weisz is magnificent in it, and there is my favourite ever breastfeeding scene in there (although it's truly heartbreaking)

boogeek · 23/03/2010 18:53

I agree it is a great film. Don't understand the connection with the wire though?

TheMysticMasseuse · 23/03/2010 18:57

nah, that was me being dense! ignore me!

It was all my fault, I said that I was reading George Pelecanos The night gardener... which at some stage became the constant gardener

Anyway, it is a good thriller, I recommend.

I'll leave you with a pearl of wisdom from our Omar:

"Money's got no owners, only spenders" - Discuss

I've been reading George Pelecanos for years and thought I recognised his touch in The Wire.I think I've read every book he's written now and there isn't a dud among them.

The books by David Simon,on which The Wire was based are really good too,Homicide and The Corner.

I love Omar-the court scene is my favourite.I've got series 4 and 5 to watch and am holding out a bit as I don't want to not have them to look forward too,if that doesn't sound stupid.

Francagoestohollywood · 25/03/2010 09:47

It totally makes sense 101dalmatians (you are going to love season 4)

101damnations · 25/03/2010 20:58

Thanks Franca,I'm still holding out.

TheMysticMasseuse · 26/03/2010 18:23

ok, another question: which is your favourite version of "Way down in the hole". I think for me is season 4, least favourite season 2 (whcih is apparently the original version!).

I just love that song. When you walk through the garden, you gotta watch your back, well I beg your pardon, walk the straight and narrow path- just love it!

TheMysticMasseuse · 26/03/2010 22:43

Just watched The Departed and all I could think about was WTF!!! Why don't they just get a wire up??? Lester Freamon would bust them in 5 minutes flat!

Seriously though, great movie, like The Wire on speed (with a Boston accent).

I do realise it's like 5 years old and everyone has probably alraedy seen it...

TheMysticMasseuse · 27/03/2010 18:11

Is Homicide better than the Wire?

And did you know that Nancy Pelosi, besides being 70, a mother of five (did you hear that? five), grandmother of 8, and the most powerful woman in America, originally hails from Baltimore?

And am I talking to myself?

Francagoestohollywood · 27/03/2010 21:24

Hi Masseuse, no, I'm here!
I think nancy Pelosi's dad (or maybe her grandfather) has been a mayor of Baltimore, or am I dreaming it?

My favourite version of Way down the hole is season 4, followed by season 1 (btw, I have the cd too and listen to it madly)

I want to get The Corner and Homicide.

No, I haven't seen The Departed yet, it was on my dvd rental list when we were in the UK, but we left the UK without having ever watched it. I watched lots of great movies on the months I had my lovefilm thingy (actually it was tesco dvd rental . It's one of the things I miss the most here.
