What i don't understand is the nighty the wife was wearing had blood all down the back but the police didnt seem to notice Also how the knife went in surely has something to do with it?

Gloria42 · 07/10/2009 16:40

Kittycatty, I thought they said the direction of the knife was upwards, from below?
I assumed she had stabbed him while he was on top of her, which would explain the blood on the back of her nightdress.

kittycatty · 07/10/2009 17:08

thats what i thought i just didnt hear any police mention the blood on the nighty.
if she stabbed him when he was behind her (on top of her) wouldnt the police think it was more self defence? or have i missed something

girlwithapearl · 07/10/2009 17:57

If she's face down, how does she stab him in the chest?

Rindercella · 07/10/2009 17:58

Very good question...

How does anyone stab him in the chest if he is lying on top of her?

TwoManyFallsAndYouGetABadScore · 07/10/2009 18:16

it's going to be important though because the DCI spent ages lying on the bed, looking at the blood splatters, thinking about angles etc.

Or at least, that is what I think he was doing

I am not sure he was abusing his daughter but I think she may have thought he might start to. She didn't seem scared of him at all. Perhaps she was protecting her from what would happen in the future?

I think the daughter is a brilliant actress and really glad to see a social worker portrayed in a good light rather than as a jobsworth paper shuffler.

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 07/10/2009 18:21

She kept repeating that her nightdress was on back-to-front when she was in the cell and the police woman came to take her clothes from her...... that might be relevant....

CybilLiberty · 07/10/2009 18:24

How do we know she was on her front when he got stabbed. The dd saw them humping and she was on her front then. But did we see her actuallyy stab him? (can't remember)

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 07/10/2009 18:27

No, we saw it from the daughter's perspective and Maxine Peake walked out and past her with the bloody nightdress on. Daughter walked in and knife was sticking out of his belly....

girlwithapearl · 07/10/2009 19:13

You're right CybilLiberty we didn't see her actually stab him, but I assumed that he was anally raping her - or was about to - and then she stabbed him. I assumed that the fact the blood was all over the back of her nightdress meant she'd been on her front and he'd bled onto her, but this doesn't quite work either - I mean if you stab him in the chest you don't then let him lie on you unless she somehow manages to stab him backwards, if you see what I mean, as he's about to commit the act.
I'm hoping Denis Lawson character will work it out - he seems to be reassuring rational, methodical character.

Ewe · 07/10/2009 21:20

Oh I hope they don't separate her from the baby. It's really quite a dark show... well compared to Gossip Girl which is what I was watching before

MaggieBehave · 07/10/2009 21:34

is the daughter ella jenny agutter's rl daughter? she's the image of Jenny Agutter. apologies if that's been said before.

MollieO · 07/10/2009 21:51

So did the daughter stab her father and the mother is protecting her? I must say I'm finding this all a bit sloooow.

Ewe · 07/10/2009 21:53

Yeah, it's definitely a slow burn, don't think it needs to be 5 hours, 3 would have probably sufficed.

Rindercella · 07/10/2009 22:04

Yes, I didn't think an awful lot happened tonight, other than her giving birth of course (where I admit I shouted at the TV for her to stop lying on her back!! )

I am banking on the fact that it will pick up again tomorrow and some things will start to come to light. Who knows...the 'orrible cooper might just be right (but I doubt it)

SlartyBartFast · 07/10/2009 22:16

at the time i thought she'd hidden the knives, blades out, in her bottom

i could be proved right

this is gripping stuff though.

LaDiDaDi · 07/10/2009 22:28

Very gripping, esp. if she was hiding knives in her bottom !

I wonder if Ella's godfather is gay?
Why was she looking at the life insurance???

SlartyBartFast · 07/10/2009 22:30

life insurance, perhaps she thought he was going to benefit from her, or seeing how much her daughter would be provided for, shoudl she die?

Rindercella · 07/10/2009 22:30

Ella's god father is the one to watch...I have a nasty feeling about him

SixtyFootDoll · 07/10/2009 22:32

I am so confused....

girlwithapearl · 07/10/2009 22:32

I don't find it slow at all - totally gripped. And I still think it's possibly ambiguous. I mean I know we are supposed to hate the nasty copper and his wife is obviously beginning to have second thoughts about his behaviour, but what if he's basically right - that it was premeditated. Maybe she was being abused, but maybe she planned it? Oh I dunno...
Loving all the strong female characters - especially the social workers. About time they were portrayed in a good light. Love the banter between the main social worker and her boss. Loved the fact the judge in the family court was a woman. In other words it's not the usual - all women are victims/abused/put upon all men are bastards.
Still can't decide if Dr Rose was having an affair with her or not.
Not looking forward to the trial - hard to do those on TV without looking so hackneyed. Everything up til now has avoided cliche.

biglips · 07/10/2009 22:33

sixty - thats why you gotta watch it to the end as theres more to it than you know! i think i know what had happened and i aint telling yer!!

biglips · 07/10/2009 22:33

and yes its very gripped

Megglevache · 07/10/2009 22:34

hmmmm I wonder if there is going to be a massive twist and dodgy godfather, father etc are the good guys and she's not as hard done by as she seems?????

LaDiDaDi · 07/10/2009 22:35

I think Dr Rose's wife suspects an affair which inclines me to think that he was.

Trying to work out how she would have stabbed him with him on top of her from behind. Very awkward.
