Ooooo... never made the connection between the blokey under the bridge and the drugs, thought they were prescription ones.

Is he going to die, do you think?

Report
OrmIrian · 06/10/2009 12:42

Yes he's going to die. But he'll take ages over it to draw out the suspense.

Rindercella · 06/10/2009 12:45

Now OrmIrian, do you have inside knowledge here or are you really Columbo in disguise?

Report
OrmIrian · 06/10/2009 12:51

My insider knowledge comes purely from speculation and the fact that I know I am right

policeman a bit too far gone bad guy.

i think the forensic evidence will come back showing maxine peake was covered in her own blood. note it was all on the back of her nighty.

Something tells me he will live and then lord it over her being all holier than thou... the daughter will be against her until the court case when it all comes out about the abuse. I think the only people championing her will be the fab solicitor (who'll struggle against a victim who is a barrister) and the female cop who'll realise she's married to an arsehole misogynist.....

Have I been over thinking this....? !

Have just watched this on Iplayer. I agree it was very slow and also very dark all the time, I kept wanting them to switch a light on so I could see what ws going on.

Think I will watch 2nd episdoe to see if iot gets any better though.

I am placing probably undue importance on the need for vaseline
Have obviously read too many threads on Mumsnet
The husband was very cleverly revealed as a controlling abuser,I thought.

I thought it was ace. Loved the fact that it was slow and didn't es pee ee el el everything for us like we're a bunch of five year olds (tho obv five year olds would not be told about vaseline thing). I got distracted by my lawyer dh who says things like "he wouldn't be able to leave the court by that exit as it's the one for judges" . Must add that my dh is as unlike lawyer husband on prog as it's possible to be. We chortled at idea that he'd be able to tell if I'd had a shower or not by the dryness of shower wall once I'd been at it with the indoor squeegee.
Where is their house? Think doctor's house may have been in a square in islington. Love what Nancy Banks smith says in guardian about the proud owners of swanky modernist coffin finding that it's being used to illustrate chilling madness of evil control freak.
PS my mother gave me an shower squeegee as a christmas present. Worse she'd put it in a Jo Malone bag. I was gutted.

I had my suspicions of him from the moment he rubbed vaseline on his genitals. Very unpleasant. I run regularly and have never felt the need to vaseline any bits

Didn't like it - have taken it off sky+ . Found the lady very annoying and their house was so white!

House was the house of someone v.rich with OCD tendancies - I have a friend whose kitchen is similar if a little smaller

I thought it was tosh

Kept watching it thinking "if this was the Wire, they'd have done it like this/the Wire would have filled it with so much more nuance/the Wire wouldn't have relied on clunky flashbacks and obvious ironies"

The Wire has spoilt me for all other telly drama

It made me queasy but I'm in for the long haul. Particularly now that Ormirian has explained it to me.

DH didn't watch it. But when I came downstairs this morning there was a big tub of vaseline on the kitchen table!!! I had a little shudder. DH does annoint himself before a run. I have never been told to go and get it....

Is it on again tonight? I'm not sure I've got the strength

Report
purepurple · 06/10/2009 17:37

What made me a bit was the fact that wifey was so traumatised after the rape and stabbing that she left the house still clutching the tub of vaseline.
But she wsn't too traumatised to put on her raincoar or tie her shoelaces.

Yes it's a five part drama isn't but across a week instead of once a week.

I thought it was fab, very menacing, much more to it than first impressions. Looking forward to delving deeper - will have a smirk on my face if that pot of vaseline pops up agin though

They showed him putting vaseline on his legs and then down the front of his shorts!!!! I thought that was a bit odd at the time, but
now we know why.....

The vaseline seems to be playing a pivotal part in this drama. Shall give it another go tonight but don't know whether can stand it til the trial, when he will obviously be uncloaked as maniacal weirdo.

(I reckon policeman is going to turn out to be abusing his wife too and she will slowly come to admit it/accept it whilst sorting other woman out.)
