I missed the first night, so forgive me if I'm way off the mark here, but suspect he was abusing the daughter. Mother said tonight she did it for her, and much as I think husband was abusing/controlling her, I think there is definately something up with daughter/father relationship. Also, maybe that's why she wanted to keep pregnancy secret- didn't want another child in the house to be abused too???? Also suspect that he was about to be busted for drugs as Drug Squad were onto him with bloke under bridge.

I am gripped; it's very slow, but I realise they need to keep suspense going, and it's keping me hooked.

Having a hard time imagining Matthew McDreamy as a horrible husband though .

I'm not sure I am patient enough to wait

Tis slow, but I am still really gripped by it. That poor girl - imagine seeing what she saw tonight (don't want to give any spoilers in case some haven't seen it yet).

Gah - and then I nearly gave away something else! Will stop whilst I'm ahead.

Just wanted to say I was enjoying it though and it's not very often that I am gripped by a TV drama

Just watched the second episode. Still really gripping. The acting is so fantastic!

i think the daughter stabbed him and when maxine said "i did it for you" she meant she took the blame.

the self harm bits were a bit gory for dh. and i do think some of the baddies are just pantomime.

But he vaselines inside his shorts. is that normal?

Ladies in accounts reckon the baby is the doctor's as they clearly didn't have sex 'the normal way' .

I asked DH (who has been involved in a lot of sports in the past) about the vaseline and he said that he has known some blokes to apply vaseline but only when wearing a jockstrap (which I assume this man didn't as he was going jogging!) and also they would sometimes apply to their nipples to prevent chaffing. So DH agreed that the man applying vaseline to his bits was very odd indeed.

Agree that the acting is ourstanding, especially Maxine Peake. Not so convinced by the dodgy copper though.

DH ran the London Marathon in April and he had to use Vaseline everywhere! Though he was running a lot further than a jog down the river. I don't think it's that unusual...

I also think it's the doctor's kid. Also she thought she'd left her watch after she came home and had a shower....

I think the doctor probably encouraged her to take her watch off so that she wasn't constantly checking it and worrying about being late home.

She had a shower and got changed perhaps he liked her to look a particular way (like the girl in her cell who puts on 6 oclock make up?)

Yes LG, I think the anal sex thing is an absolute abuse of power on his behalf - it would seem that she would do anything to please him, but hates anal sex. Perhaps it was one of the many ways he could control and belittle her?

I am very interested in Joe's mate - I reckon he's a right crook who will stop at nothing to get revenge for his friend's death. Interesting choice as a Godfather for the daughter I thought. But that's probably just down to my own class prejudices

What do we think about her checking the life insurance on the computer? Can we dismiss the idea that bad copper has - which is that it was premeditated at all? Or am I over thinking. Want to totally be on her side, but am wondering if they are deliberately leading us down a path to then throw it back in our faces.
I am so looking forward to tonight's episode.
Although stomach churns throughout and I had to hide behind hands during self-harm bits.
