Starts sun 20th Sept

A glorious spin off from the split but with a new family

The six-part series will introduce us to Kishan Law, a British-South Asian high net worth family law firm in Manchester, and the go-to for the city’s elite.

At the centre of it is Aria Kishan (played by Ritu Arya), a fast-rising star who’s poised to step up and take the mantle from her father Dhruv (Sanjeev Bhaskar).

We’ll also meet Aria’s siblings Maya (Aysha Kala), Kav (Arian Nik), and partner Neal (Danny Ashok).

However, the family’s succession plans are complicated by the death of Aria’s mother, as Dhruv begins to wonder if his daughter can, or should, take on the responsibility single handedly.

The official synopsis continues: “Aria’s relationship is placed under scrutiny too with the wedding to long-term partner Neal on the horizon, but with their personal and professional lives so entwined it’s unclear if their relationship can withstand any more pressure - a problem further compounded when a former secret flame (Dimitri Leonidas) arrives in Manchester unexpectedly.

I have to say, I thought it was awful. DH actually left the room because it was such drivel. i'm surprised it's billed as having the same writer as The Split, this is filled with cliched banalities. The only thing I liked about it was Sindhu Vee. Lenny Henry was a caricature, and I couldn't warm to any of the characters. Shame, as I love legal drama, and also really enjoyed The Split.

Abi Morgan didn't write it, but she's an exec producer. The writer is Ursula Rani Sarma.

roses2 · 21/09/2026 17:48

I saw this last night and really enjoyed it, I've never watched The Split. Will definitely be tuning in tonight for the next episode!

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/09/2026 18:13

@roses2 the split is def worth a watch but agree this is good

not sure why so many dislike it

This is not a patch on the split

bananaobama · 21/09/2026 19:14

I find it hard to believe that Aria and Neil are a couple

There is no chemistry. He’s not that fanciable. Their interactions are stilted / unnatural

Middlemarch123 · 21/09/2026 19:17

I enjoyed it. Will watch it weekly.

Agree it’s not as good as The Split, but Nicola Walker and Stephen Mangan are a hard act to follow. The writer of the original is a director of this show.

I think it’s best to not compare it to the original, but see it as a separate series. It’s nice to have a new drama for Sundays. I wonder if they hyped up the link to the original to get publicity for this series.

neonjumper · 21/09/2026 19:52

I’m binge watching it .. I’m loving it !

AutumnMuse · 21/09/2026 20:18

I enjoyed it. Most of time I watch crime dramas, thrillers, or period dramas. So this was a refreshing change.

Things are going to get complicated in the firm..

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/09/2026 22:35

Im
surprised by those who say not good

bit think many are comparing it to the split

maybe would have been better if was just another legal /divorce drama and not a spin off from it

I agree but it’s too similar to The Split for that to have been possible.

I am enjoying it though & hope it stays good. I would love if it gives more insight into the family culture also, as that would make it more unique.

I’d like one (or more) of the original sisters from The Split to make a cameo.

B9waiting · 21/09/2026 20:32

I also enjoyed Barcelona, so I may be easily pleased!

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/09/2026 20:37

Totally agree @Middlemarch123. Think of it as legal lawyer show

Italiangreyhound · 21/09/2026 20:49

Very similar to the split.

Love it.

Just re watched the slit first.

Aria had her fling with the gorgeous Luke when on a break.

So bil is a judge and skint /gambler

If her dad hadn't barged in he wouldnt have filed for divorce

What has he asked the affair man to do in confidence and trying to get cash from business to pay off other lawyer lady - but why

If he can't afford to move out I assume he can't afford to pay the huge mortgage they have

Becky will she still want him

So son is now a lawyer - does his family know he is gay as I thought that was very bad in his religion

SparklyBlueDress · 21/09/2026 22:13

Yes because last night at the engagement party an auntie asked if there were any brides around and the dad (Sanjeev) said something about or husband and hugged the son.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/09/2026 22:16

Ah. Missed that. Thanks @SparklyBlueDress

@Blondeshavemorefun Your title says No Spoliers but look at your second but last post! Maybe delete it.

I am really enjoying the show - two episodes in.

friedaklein · 21/09/2026 23:19

As a S Asian and fan of the Split, I really wanted to like this. However the script is poor, some of the acting really awful- the actress playing Zoya- and the clients aren't interesting enough.
Ritu Arya- who plays Aria- is gorgeous, but why is her wardrobe so awful? Nicola Walker's clothes were so much better. Also agree she has no chemistry with Neel. ( Nicola Walker and Stephen Mangan had fabulous chemistry).
The judge- Maya's husband- having an affair in his own house seems ridiculous and his storyline is dull.

I don't think the men all look the same, but then I don't think Asian men look the same! Still, it's nice to see Asian women portrayed as clever, sexy and ambitious rather than always being dominated by the men. I hope it improves!

They need Goldie- Meera Syal- in it. maybe with her rich toyboy!

Blankscreen · 21/09/2026 23:20

I want to like it but I just don't.

The timings are also rubbish. Are we really supposed to believe that aria is having the engagement party after working all day and the dress has been tailored in a couple of hours.

Just crap!

B9waiting · 21/09/2026 23:42

I agree re timings @Blankscreen - that’s annoying but otherwise I’m enjoying it.
