Starts sun 20th Sept

A glorious spin off from the split but with a new family

The six-part series will introduce us to Kishan Law, a British-South Asian high net worth family law firm in Manchester, and the go-to for the city’s elite.

At the centre of it is Aria Kishan (played by Ritu Arya), a fast-rising star who’s poised to step up and take the mantle from her father Dhruv (Sanjeev Bhaskar).

We’ll also meet Aria’s siblings Maya (Aysha Kala), Kav (Arian Nik), and partner Neal (Danny Ashok).

However, the family’s succession plans are complicated by the death of Aria’s mother, as Dhruv begins to wonder if his daughter can, or should, take on the responsibility single handedly.

The official synopsis continues: “Aria’s relationship is placed under scrutiny too with the wedding to long-term partner Neal on the horizon, but with their personal and professional lives so entwined it’s unclear if their relationship can withstand any more pressure - a problem further compounded when a former secret flame (Dimitri Leonidas) arrives in Manchester unexpectedly.

Her necklace went from the one her dad gave her from her mum, to later on a totally different one? Unless that was part of the ceremony but it didn’t show it being changed. That annoyed me if it was a mistake. Not sure about it but will give the next episode a go.

Ratherhaveacupofteaandabiscuit · 20/09/2026 23:07

I’m annoyed because the title misled me into expecting at least a core of The Split characters.

I’m sure other names were available.

We noticed this too.

the messenger always gets shot

so I think the sister knows her dh is shagging about but in denial

did dad find the note and that’s what he was burning

so he kinda knows about their relationship now and why he’s changed to just aria and now the pair of them in charge

No, I think he got the note from Lenny Henry’s wife’s lawyer, which said “We need to talk”…so it seems likely that either she is his secret daughter or his romantic entanglement: not sure which is more likely 😂

Brooklyn70 · 21/09/2026 06:39

i’ll give it another go but the cases need to be interesting.

i kept expecting there would be a twist to why jane horrors didn’t want a divorce but it ended up being nothing. their story took like 5 minutes out of the whole show, i couldn’t care about either of them.

Offherrockingchair · 21/09/2026 06:53

Hmm, undecided. I’ll watch another episode but it just seemed to be another show about selfish men. Dad handing off the business to new son in law to be, son in law seeing nothing wrong with that, other son in law having an affair, tale as old as time. I wanted the bride to end the whole thing and run off into the distance with nice London lawyer man!

DeftGoldHedgehog · 21/09/2026 06:57

I was only half watching, but wasn't it the daughter who was having an affair? Confused

and her brother in law.

and by the look of things, maybe her father did too.

Oh. Duh. Course was the lawyer. Thanks

Well both

main female aria slept with someone which makes you wonder why and don’t think she actually wants to get married to neal and settle down and have babies

but her sisters dh is shagging the secretary - in their home - very risky

I put it on last night but changed channel because it wasn't what I expected from the title. The couple of minutes I saw seemed to be setup like an Asian family sitcom!

So a question to those that watched:

  • Is it legal stuff like the split, just with an Asian family? Strong, intelligent characters?
  • Or is it being heavy handed on the Asian element and less on the legal element?

If the former I'll give it another go rather then another American series. If the latter then it's a shame they used The Split brand in the title, it should be it's own thing.

Hearing Lenny Henry is in it has me worried!

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/09/2026 08:51

It’s legal stuff mainly tho obv the relationships are based on Asian so had a big engagement party for example

do we think daddy has been unfaithful @Peachy2005. I hope not as he seems totally in love with dead wife

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/09/2026 09:27

Sorry not secretary. Lawyer on other side

OP posts:
burnoutbabe · 21/09/2026 10:31

I wasn’t sure if the other side lawyer was big daddy’s fling (though 20 years too young I’d say) or child. I shall go with child.

and I had no idea who Becky was? That brother in law was snagging. Does brother in law also work at the main law firm? Why doesn’t older sister work with clearly a good law past and 2 teenage kids (which probably will happen soon). Brother is accountant not a lawyer but works as an office helper?

I liked it!

Yapper73 · 21/09/2026 12:24

I’m loving it. I also loved The Split and have watched each series more than once.

bananaobama · 21/09/2026 14:20

This is on a par with the Split in Barcelona, that awful xmas special that was ridiculously far fetched

bananaobama · 21/09/2026 14:24

What i loved about the split was the clients/cases

they spanned a few episodes. Meera syal, donna air etc

bananaobama · 21/09/2026 14:25

Maya’s husband is totally unbelievable character

OllysArmyRidesAgain · 21/09/2026 14:36

I really struggled working out who was who, it all felt a little bit muddled and the characters interchangeable.

The 3 siblings seem very close, so much so that I thought the brother was the older sisters DH at one point. I also assumed she was the younger arty sister but then we saw her teenage DC.

The storyline seems very familiar/obvious, with a heavy dose of Asian culture that seems overdone.

I will try episode 2 before I give up.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/09/2026 14:47

Don’t think see bil at the firm tho seems to be mainly family business but obv hire outside like her one night stand

wonder if her fiancé was brought in to the firm. Or they met at the firm and got together

I don’t think OSL (other side lawyer) is his daughter or lover - seems too crass

I will watch with full attention (no scrolling or posting during the program) and try to work out who is who. I feel a bit bad when I say I can't work out who is who as the characters are Asian, although even the one night stand guy is similar.

I have had this on other shows too, where there is a group of characters that are generally the same; it can be white men with brown hair, blonde women with typically swishy hair or sometimes even couples or family groups.

I feel some writers/directors are better at setting the scene; others just throw us all the characters and let us work out who belongs with who.

I may be a lost cause, as I was struggling when watching Strictly with Dani, Delta, Lacey and Jaime. When they are on the sofa and speaking, I'm fine though!

DelphiniumBlue · 21/09/2026 16:07

I have to say, I thought it was awful. DH actually left the room because it was such drivel. i'm surprised it's billed as having the same writer as The Split, this is filled with cliched banalities. The only thing I liked about it was Sindhu Vee. Lenny Henry was a caricature, and I couldn't warm to any of the characters. Shame, as I love legal drama, and also really enjoyed The Split.
