Worst programme ever?

I was in by myself last night and wanted something easy to watch so I tried that new Murder in Benidorm series on C5. OMG - what a load of drivel. Makes Death in Paradise seem like a Dicken’s adaptation. Bad acting and ridiculous plot (and I do watch some crap!).
What was John Hannah thinking taking the lead role? I got about halfway through and turned it off & went to bed in disgust!

Keeley Hawes and Suranne Jones are the same person in my head. I mean, I know they are not, but I can't remember which is which. Don't mind Vigil with one of them (Suranne?) as I was an extra in series 2, had great fun and they looked after me very well.

Lots of crap on telly over the years, 3-2-1 with convoluted riddles which were impossible to guess, some thing on BBC1 Saturday teatime with Anton du Beck (?) trying to contort himself through foam spaces on a swimming pool, or something. Saw a channel 5 drama with Tamsin Outhwaite and Jo Joyner pretending it was hot and sunny in SPain when it was January in Malta which was appalling.

I think you may be on to something there, actually. Some people do just want the same thing they've always been used to, and the idea of anything new or original scares them.

The viewers of MBB are probably the same people who go abroad on holiday and only want a roast dinner or sausage, chips and beans for every meal - and naturally assume that everybody there will speak fluent English.

Cash trapped. No matter how many times I watched it, I couldn't understand it. Many game shows (The Chase, Lingo, Countdown, Pointless, etc) are far more self explanatory

I really wanted to like it, but I just couldn't understand how it all worked either. The rules seemed a bit too much like Numberwang to me!

The one bit I (think I) did understand - the final escape - was so easily abused if the others just buzzed and hesitated as long as possible, to waste the would-be escapee's valuable time and thwart them, even when they didn't have the remotest idea of the answer.

As a child in the 70s I loved the sitcoms of the time, many of which were retrospectively pretty bad (Mind Your Language was mentioned earlier on this thread and most of the "humour" derived from very broad national stereotypes.... but at the time I thought it was great 😬)

Rising Damp, which I also loved, was probably a better show but is now screened with a warning about "attitudes of the time"! Of course, one of its central jokes was that the black character, Philip (now known as the Commissioner from Death in Paradise...) was far more cultured and intelligent than the ignorant Rigsby, who nevertheless looked down on and frequently racially abused him.

For fans of proper bbc dramas, they are having a series of classics starting tonight.

Can I nominate Say yes to the dress? We stayed with my older sister in Australia last year. She doesn't go out in the evening(and there's nothing to do near her) Every fucking night it came on. Dear god, I love her to bits, but wanted to shake her after the first week.

I watched a really interesting programme on one of the nature channels last year about the otters living in Singapore river, Uptown Otters.

It was fascinating (I used to live there as a kid) but dear God, I had to mute the sound and just go by subtitles in the end.

I'm sure she's a lovely lady but her voice ...

@Lentilcakes I was looking forward to Benidorm is murder because of John Hannah but was so disappointed. You feel like you have seen it before! It is the worst bits of Benidorm, Death in Paradise and Murder she wrote mixed together and squirted out.
Every cliche shovelled in.
Certainly is not an advert for going to Benidorm

Yes, but that was so bad it was good. I loved that back in the 90s and was gutted when it ended. They showed all episodes last year on some obscure channel and enjoyed every nostalgic minute.

My DH absolutely loves it 😂 I was trying to work out where I'd seen the assistant and then realised it's Daisy from Corrie. It's got a Shakespeare & Hathaway vibe and the background music sounds identical but it's pretty shite.

But didn't you like his Spanish sidekick? Didn't you find her funny and think that she and JH had a good rapport?

I think Mrs Brown's Boys is a practical joke by a BBC executive to see what rubbish people might watch. Though rubbish is probably an inaccurate description, it is far worse than that. At least dog excrement has a purpose.

Ah, but Rigsby was desperate to appear suave and cultured, yet was invariably made to look like a complete fool every week.

Same as with Love Thy Neighbour. It was the white male neigbour who was shown up to be a racist twat every time. They wouldn't make it now, but it was actually fairly enlightened for its time.
