I was in by myself last night and wanted something easy to watch so I tried that new Murder in Benidorm series on C5. OMG - what a load of drivel. Makes Death in Paradise seem like a Dicken’s adaptation. Bad acting and ridiculous plot (and I do watch some crap!).
What was John Hannah thinking taking the lead role? I got about halfway through and turned it off & went to bed in disgust!

On the buses - reg varney the white main character was the one we were laughing at, his sexist racist stupidity. Rising damp was similar in that the black character was intelligent and likeable and Reggie Perrin was the stupid racist fool.
bit today everyone gets their knickers in a twist just because

It was Rigsby in Rising Damp, not Reggie Perrin.

The fallen Madonna with the big boobies
Just utter shite

It is I, monsieur le Clerc!

I still say ‘good moaning’ sometimes!

My sister loves Mrs Brown's Boys ( she's the only person I know who does). She even applied to get tickets to watch it being recorded because she was too mean to pay for tickets to the stage show.

Thankfully we have nothing in common.

I loved Ann Droid!

So do I.

I actually watched both episodes of Benidorm in Murder and I found it quite funny. The Spanish side kick is brilliant and makes the show.

Some of the lines made me laugh out loud, just like Ann Droid.

I think if you start watching BIM knowing that is is going to be trashy tv it is fine and fun to watch.

I’m currently finishing the second season of Loki but I’m going to give it a try next - this thread has made me want to give it a try 😂🫣

Tipping Point.

Q: Name a large cat, that has four letters, the first is L and the last is N. There are two vowels in the middle.
A: Tiger.

Haha reminds me of watching a quiz show Going for Gold. It came on after the afternoon episode of Home and Away years ago

“which vegetable starting with the letter P is green and also known as petite pois? No, Gunther, it’s not a potato”

Buscobel · 08/08/2026 22:41

It’s increasingly difficult to find anything at all that’s of interest on TV. All those channels filled with dross. We lasted five minutes with the Benidorm thing. I think John Hannah will regret his involvement.

You can’t even rely on decent actors being in decent programmes now.

I used to love that! With Henry Kelly

Wasn't it named best British comedy of all time? I was absolutely fuming when I heard that because it’s utter kak. I genuinely hope what I heard was a joke!

Kiell SB's face said it all - when Ghosts lost out to MBB!

Oh, I used to love Going For Gold - especially all the howlers!

Mind, I did always think that it was rather unfairly biased in favour of the British and Irish contestants - with it being in English and on the buzzer - as well as England, Scotland, Wales and NI all being allowed a separate entrant!

ParsleySageToiletDuckAndBinBags · Yesterday 06:43

A strong contender for worst kids' TV show ever has to be Teacup Travels. It's not trashy at all, but it's soooooo boring!

It's like somebody from Victorian times, who never had children themselves, thought they knew exactly what children in the 21st century woukd absolutely love - to watch as a bonus bit of fun after their double-Latin treat!

Wishimaywishimight · Yesterday 07:32

TLC has some 'interesting' offerings. I had the misfortune to watch a few minutes of 'Dr Pimple Popper' recently 🫣

Corianda · Yesterday 07:59

I think dr Pimple popper , and others of those ilk, have probably helped increase empathy for ‘weird’ people with unusual deformities.
I used to work in a hospital so have seen lots of weird bodies and don’t watch it much but the staff are very kind so a lesson for us all

Is that Deal or no Deal? There was SO MUCH hype about that when it started and when I finally saw it I was absolutely dumbstruck by the “format”. Opening boxes, that’s it.

I was about to nominate this. I like a quiz show and I watched several episodes of this, trying to work out what the skills involved were. That's 3 hours of my life I'll never get back.

RaraRachael · Yesterday 08:19

Deal or No Deal is absolute shite. What gets me about lots of game shows is the endless discussing and strategisising that goes on.
Who cares? Just open the bloody box.

The 1% Club could be over in 20 minutes if they didn't do all this.

Fair enough if it's not your thing; but the skills involved are those of playing the odds - not unlike you would find in various card games - or even, in principle, chess: reading how the game has already gone, working out the remaining possibilities and knowing the consequences of taking risks based on those workings.

I personally can't stand all of the pseudo-importance that's attached to the reasons for the choice of numbers, as it's all random; and the silly mini superstitions like holding hands, chanting/clapping, wearing a particular colour, 'manifesting' or 'having a feeling' about what's in the box (unless it's the last one remaining!) are downright embarrassing - I think they spoil the game and make it tacky... but it's basically a mixture of chance and skill.

It's not the most intellectual of game shows, of course; but if you look at something like Who Wants To Be A Millionaire - where you can also gamble to win big or risk losing lots/all/nearly all of what you already have, the psychological element is not that different, albeit with no question to answer.

The padding is really annoying when you just want them to get on with it.

With The 1% Club and WWTBAM, I get the point that it's the journey from the very easy to the the very complicated, with the rewards/chances of winning increasing all the time... but whilst it's probably great for the actual contestants - to get their hand in and gradually work up - for the viewers, it just renders the first part extra dull.

When you're told that there's a hen called Jen and a lion called Brian and then are asked whether the zebra is called Deborah or Gary; or given a similarly ridiculously easy question with one stinking obvious answer and three absurd alternatives, you just want it all out of the way so you can get to the interesting bits.

I mentioned this on a previous thread once. All the "It can't be A because blah, blah, blah. It can't be C because boring waffly bollocks. Therefore it must be B, Jeremy" (Clarkson or Vine, take your pick).

Someone who had been on Eggheads(!) replied, saying they are told to do all that shite. It is supposed to increase the tension or jeopardy or something. But is just really boring and annoying to us, the audience!

That knitting competition with Tom Daley

at the moment it’s the 6:30pm doom
slot on bbc 2. Currently it’s celebs telling members of the public how to live healthier by having warm baths 3 times a week, eating a square of dark chocolate a night … the reactions of the members of the public say it all. Joanna page at a wild animal rescue place was another show which was on at that time which was bad

Joanne Page's voice is like nails on a blackboard. I have to switch over as soon as she appears on anything.

I love this.

A classic is Ben asking “Papillon is the French word for which flying insect?”

After much blustering, the contestant came out with “Dog?”

Thought Ben was going to wet himself laughing 😝

To be fair to the contestant, he may have been confused by the fact that there is a dog breed called Papillon - though clearly it neither flies nor is an insect!

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · Yesterday 10:53

I watched the first episode of Murder in Benidorm and quite enjoyed it! Ridiculous plot and some of the acting was unimpressive. But I thought John Hannah was fine and some of the script was funny enough. I look for inane entertainment when I'm ironing, things I don't have to focus on (burnt a t-shirt watching a really good film once).

forceofhabitandnotneed · Yesterday 11:07

I can't stand Mrs. Brown's Boys, but I suspect its appeal for a few people is that it's the kind of broad, uncomplicated studio sitcom that used to be really prevalent on TV until about 15 or 20 years ago. A lot of them were dross, but I do think they've been supplanted by comedy that is "quirky" or "heart-warming".

BBC drama.

It's invariably just a ham fisted lecture to educate the public on the evils of xyz.

When you see the older BBC dramas, it's an indication of how far they have fallen.

I'm mystified by the way The Guardian disses any ITV drama but see merit in BBC ones.

I really hate hiw much people burble on Bridge of Lies, and seem not to understand that there is a time limit!

It's fair enough if they are genuinely thinking through a tough question, but when it's 'acts that have won Eurovision' and the two choices on the first line are Abba and Elvis Presley, we really don't need to hear you havering about it for half a minute.
