Just watched 20 minutes of episode 1

Love it.

We finished it last night and really enjoyed it.

Michael was a right lazy lump - I suppose they had to make him like that to contrast with Linda.

The bit where Professor Chris liquidises the raw chicken made me want to 🤮

SabreIsMyFave · 22/07/2026 09:38

Watched 3 episodes so far. Really enjoying it. Grin

TheSmellOfSea · 22/07/2026 09:41

Professor Chris was Zava in Ted Lasso. He does arrogant well 😅

I watched episode 1 of Can you keep a secret last night. I hadn't heard of it until this thread. Is it supposed to be funny? Just seems to be an idea lifted off the John Darwin scandal. I like the son Craig Roberts. Loved him in the Fundamentals of caring. Doubt I'll watch any more.

I am thinking of watching Ann Droid again though.

I felt exactly the same. I didn't find him funny, just irritating and a complete distraction from what was otherwise a funny and touching series.

The stuttering and halted speech from Michael got annoying very quickly for me and ruined what was otherwise a very good programme, wish he would sod off and leave us with sue sue sue and linda

I think he is supposed to be that irritating,

berlinbaby2025 · 22/07/2026 14:00

The writers overdid it with Michael. Characters in comedy have to be heightened but not that much.

Umanresources · 22/07/2026 16:45

I really dislike the Michael character, which I suppose is what we are supposed to do. I can’t help thinking that Sue made a bad job of raising him, if that was her only role. I didn’t like the bumbling Kevin character either. I just wonder what sort of women would actually marry men like these.

Kevin?

I know. Total dick.

Newsenmum · 22/07/2026 18:12

I also noticed waffle doggie’s mum

Let’s not solely blane women for how their kids turn out, especially as it’s her ‘only role’.

To me he seemed like typical “but Im a naiiicce boy poor me”

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 22/07/2026 20:39

I have no idea why Sue! Sue! Sue! gives me the giggles so much.
Diane Morgan is just a star in everything does.

True. I think I’m just not too enamoured of the overacting.

Redsparkleydeeleyboppers · 22/07/2026 21:51

I've been following the woman who plays Rene for ages on Tik Tok (her name is Andrea Valls), I had no idea she was an actor I just thought she was some random but very talented woman with a Tiktok account!

I haven't noticed any over acting. They all seemed great to me

TheClocksFast · 22/07/2026 21:59

Watched the first episode and enjoyed it (didn’t think I would). I love Sue Johnston!

berlinbaby2025 · 22/07/2026 22:02

Margo Leicester as Phyllis I thought went over the top. I know her character is overbearing but I thought she over did that and ventured into cartoon land.

LiveLuvLaugh · 22/07/2026 22:04

Sameoldsameold78 · 17/07/2026 21:53

Love that there’s two from Motherland in it.

Three - the AnDroid rep is the Motherland’s Julia’s Nanny from Hell.

mummabubs · 22/07/2026 22:05

We've binged it over three nights. Absolutely loved it, first time I've genuinely laughed out loud at the telly in a long time. But will confess I just sobbed during the last episode 🤣😭❤️ Desperately hoping there's a second series commissioned.

Corianda · 22/07/2026 22:10

It was good but the characters were all a bit ott. Michael an idiot, his gf evil bitch, the shop owner a mad bag lady, the old man so scruffy, the very pervy husband, Sue on the other hand was a bit too astute to be a doddery 80 year old - but it did make me laugh -just wish DM had calmed it all down a bit.
Im surprised everyone was so moved at the end -I mean Michael was getting it on with a sex robot - hmmmm

Yes it was a bit OTT. I do know people who are a bit like that though but she's something else.

GreenWhiteViolets123 · 22/07/2026 22:12

I watched the first 10 minutes of episode one. Tedious and annoying. I switched to something else.

RosieBurdock · 23/07/2026 09:12

Finished watching this and enjoyed it. Sue Johnstone is brilliant. No wonder Caroline Aherne and Diane Morgan wanted her for their respective series. Hoping for another series.

I know it is only a TV programme, but there is so much to unpick from this comment, women are not solely responsible for how their sons turn out.

SancerreSunsets · 23/07/2026 10:10

Thought it was brilliant and love the actor who plays Michael. I know his character is an arse in this, but somehow I still felt sorry for him. And I loved Kevin in Motherland!
