Just watched 20 minutes of episode 1

Love it.

It seems a few of us didn’t like the premise but because of Diane Morgan we gave it a go - and glad we did!

I watched it because Sue Johnston was in it but Diane is great. Did she write it ?

Yes, co-created and co-written with Sarah Kendall, the Australian who plays the delivery woman.

thelastcakeismine · 21/07/2026 19:56

Like others, we gave it a go as we like Diane Morgan & Sue Johnston and really enjoyed it despite being a bit predictable in places.

Yes, she co-wrote it with Sarah Kendall, an Aussie comedian. Diane Morgan said her inspiration was partly the trend in "care robots" in Japan and her experiences with her own mother.

I watched the final episode last night and will admit to damp eyelids - especially at the wonderfully-acted bit with Sue Johnston's character and the cassette player.

So much better than I thought it was going to be.

It's interesting that so many of us watched this in spite of the trailer, not because of it.

Littletreefrog · 21/07/2026 20:01

Loved it. So much better than some recent comedies I.e "Can you keep a secret?" which was disappointing to say the least

MissBattleaxe · 21/07/2026 20:13

Absolutely loved it. Great performances. relatable, and very funny. Also topical- did you see the Richard Osman books?

Can you keep a secret was rubbish, so much potential and it went no where!

Saucery · 21/07/2026 20:16

Linda reciting Do not stand at my grave and weep at the shore just did for me.

Yes! I wouldn’t have given it a go if it wasn’t for this thread

Watchoutfortheslowaraf · 21/07/2026 20:31

Saw the trailer and thought it looked crap but my friend told me it was brilliant so I gave it a go and absolutely loved it! Hated the mean version of Kevin character though- thought he might have come through at the end and he just got worse! Loved sue johnston and Diane Morgan though. Diane Morgan should get an award for this- absolutely brilliant acting and comic timing.

OwlCalledSage · 21/07/2026 20:32

I only watched it because of this thread. So glad I did.

Me to! Have no idea who Diane Morgan is, but thanks to OP I gave it a go.

I think it does a good balancing act between comedy and some real sadness.

I now have 3 tv humanoids I am interested in following on tv!

So Linda, Mia from Humans and (guilty secret) MurderBot (really funny)

Thegirlwhowent · 21/07/2026 20:56

I've just watched Episode 2. The digs about the charity shop being overloaded with Richard Osman books really made me laugh!

Exactly. I tried to watch it but gave up after two episodes. It just ran out of steam.

berlinbaby2025 · 21/07/2026 21:17

Finished it and enjoyed it but I didn't love the series as a whole, perhaps because I've read a lot about AI and how it's likely to impact our lives in ways that aren't great so I felt a bit distanced from the comedy aspect.

Diane Morgan (who is fast approaching national treasure territory) should win every award available to her for her stunningly good performance in this.

IAmKerplunk · 21/07/2026 21:26

Aw I loved Can you keep a secret!

Agree that Diane Morgan’s acting in this was brilliant.

OhWaffle · 21/07/2026 21:30

Skimmed this whole thread and don't think anyone's pointed out who the actress is who plays Renee the BJJ wife...?

Also Al from Stath Lets Flats!

the80sweregreat · 21/07/2026 21:36

Never watched Stath , but Renee wasn’t too bad.
you often see the same faces turn up in comedies.
I did like ‘ can you keep a secret!’ but this was better.

Thought MNers might recognise her..

Me too, it wouldn't have been on my radar at all but I really enjoyed it. I hope they make another series

DanaScullysLegoHair · 21/07/2026 22:35

Loved it. Half expected it to be a bit crap despite Diane Morgan being in it.

I enjoyed the parts where you can see she is dying to laugh 😀
