Just watched 20 minutes of episode 1

Love it.

Watched all six. That was brilliant. Heartwarming and funny. Want to watch it all over again!

(For the poster with the 12 year old DD, there is a scene with Michael and Renee shagging in a car!)

Some of it made me LOL, other bits were cringeworthy….

I loved Sue getting pushed into the lake to cheer her up! LOL

I was the same as many here in thinking that it looked naff from the synopsis and trailer, but gave it a go.

Really enjoyed it overall. But found myself zoning out whenever it was a Michael and Renee bit, I really wasn’t interested in them.

Sue Johnston and Diane Morgan were brilliant. Genuinely funny and poignant moments between them. And the rest of the cast were great too. That chap who plays Phyllis’ husband seems typecast as a bit of a perv going by everything I’ve seen him in!

'Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em' was mentioned on the radio the other day and I thought why on earth would anybody have married Frank Spencer! At least Michael is not quite that bad.

Betty’s mum in ‘ Some mothers do ‘ ave em ‘ wasn’t overly keen on Frank and his antics! He was a force of nature and he caused havoc. I often used to cringe and I was only 9 or something when it was on the first time around. The stunts were good, but he rarely had anything go right.

I binged it,very funny although a double edged sword as depressing too.

I thought it was brilliant. Genuinely laughed out loud at times and thought Sue Johnston was just superb. Diane Morgan is also an excellent actress. There must be some really good out takes somewhere.

Yes! It took me a few episodes to really enjoy it purely because I found the whole concept incredibly depressing and unfortunately very realistic for our future

Yes - but why?!

I really liked it and thought Diane Morgan’s acting as the robot was excellent! It can’t be easy to do that consistently. The only thing that disappointed me was the rehashing of the Kevin character from Motherland in the guise of Michael. Paul Ready is a good actor, so they could have written him a different character.
I also loved it because it had so many parts for older actors, which you don’t see everyday.

Kevin was likeable though.

I have watch it all and loved it. It was LOL funny but also poignant.

It is certainly up there with Motherland, Afterlife, Outnumbered and Alma's Not Normal for great comedies.

I only found Alma's Not Normal last year (on i-player). I can see why the pilot episode won a Bafta for best comedy. It is another funny and poignant comedy with wonderful character acting (it is based on Sophie Willan's life as a care leaver). If you loved Ann-Droid you will enjoy Alma.

I don't see Kevin and Michael as being all that similar. Michael is a complete man child and incredibly selfish. Kevin would never have treated his mum like Michael!

The writing for Kevin in Motherland was better than in this for the Michael character. Michael was written too broadly so I couldn’t get invested to feel anything.

I loved it, binge watched it in two days. Might watch it again sometime. I love Diane and Sue Johnston they're both great actors. There was also the woman who had played Mrs Figg in Harry Potter as well (for any hard potter fans).

The male characters in this were definitely secondary. Maybe there's something around female friendships becoming more important later in life, following bereavement. I've seen it with my MIL, rebuilding her life through church and other groups, and how vital female friendship is in getting through grief.

Just watched 2 episodes. Sue Johnstone makes it. They should do a comedy with her and Ricky Tomlinson If you've got the right actors and script there's an appetite.

Like The Royle Family? I agree, they do work well together.
