New 8 part drama for a Saturday night

The drama stars Jessica Raine (The Devil's Hour, Patrick Melrose), Damien Molony (Bergerac, Brassic), Antonia Thomas (The Good Doctor, Still Up), Nicholas Pinnock (For Life, The Book of Clarence), Leila Farzard (Kaos, I Hate Suzie) and Hugh Skinner (Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!, Fleabag).

Written and created by Catherine Shepherd (‘Sally4Ever', ‘The Shrink Next Door'), ‘Two Weeks in August' follows the story of a woman who goes on holiday with her family and friends to rediscover joy in her life.

But, here in paradise, what starts with an illicit kiss quickly turns the dream vacation into a nightmare

The synopsis continues: "Zoe begins to act on her deepest desires and the holiday she hoped for becomes a reckoning for a group of adults who refuse to grow up.

old wounds are re-opened, sending the group in a chaotic spiral that soon begins to snowball, threatening to upend each of their lives in unexpected

When they discover they are trapped on the island, and become faced with real life-or-death situations, the group soon turn on each other to find out who is to blame.

Is Zoe responsible for the drama and destruction around her or, as heaven turns to hell, are bigger forces at play?

We are in Greece after all, the land of the ancient Gods…

Leading star Jessica said "the big question of the series is how the audience is going to respond to a character like Zoe".

"The decisions she makes to get what she wants, and the consequences because of that," continued the actress.

"The idea of a woman deciding not to sacrifice everything, of choosing to put herself first, unfortunately still feels revolutionary.

I think every woman feels that, and that’s what I think will appeal.

Really hated Solomon being so chill about Dan and Jess snogging but then going irate because Zoe dared to set standards for herself and split up with Dan! Taking out his own anger at himself for his failed first marriage on Zoe.

Yes this didn't make sense to me
No normal person would just shrug off a kiss if they were told about it. There'd be a bit bother about it!

I think it made sense in his case because he does not want to mess being a parent up for his second child. Even though he is. And clearly Jess had managed him advance. Telling him on the way to dinner to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Rather than that morning or night before when he may have taken action such as leaving or confronting.

purpleme12 · 12/06/2026 10:13

Mmmm I don't think it makes sense in this case no

I think it does. They’re on their way to a mate’s birthday. Jess tells Solomon about the kiss, saying Dan kissed her and playing up her vulnerability like she did with Zoe when she went to her room (“I can’t deal with this, I nearly drowned today!”). Solomon has an insecurity about being a crap dad and husband from his first marriage and she appeals to his “be a bigger man” side. There’s not much time to think it through on the way. His mate Dan has just revealed he was very depressed and tried to kill hinself and that his business tanked, so he’s more likely to feel sorry for Dan than angry. From Solomon’s POV at that meal, let’s keep the peace for Jacobs birthday, his wife Jess just told him in a way that doesn’t sound like she did something bad, and he already pities Dan so when Zoe boils over it makes him pity them more.

purpleme12 · 13/06/2026 14:22

I know you think it does

I feel like you're trying to convince me or something by keeping saying it and keeping explaining

It's fine to think either thing

BakeOffRewatch · 13/06/2026 14:26

No, I’m not trying to convince you. I am adding to the conversation point with more detail. Sorry I thought when you quoted my post you wanted a conversation about it.

Anyone watched episode 5 ?
8 episodes are a bit much.
6 would be enough.

the80sweregreat · 14/06/2026 11:34

I caught the last half hour of episode five on tv ( I have seen them all, but Dh hasn’t)
I did feel so sorry for Jon, especially as Solomon admitted he wanted to hurt him as well. I did find that shocking. It is certainly a twisty tale and a holiday hell isn’t it!

I agree, I thought 6 episodes would have been plenty

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/06/2026 23:26

Yes I’ve seen last nights

what a car crash. Literally

poor Jon. That was. A lot of
blood

Zoe fitting into her kids top

finding her nightie stuffed in the cupboard. Why didn’t she put in the washing basket ?

the cleaner was a bit rude but if she saw shagging people - guessing Zoe and Jon on the alter

no boats as bad weather so ar ewe gonna get a storm

is Jess playing with his feeling. She does seem to still lust over him

so gay one got dumped after his 4 some

And the one who bought a house. Silly woman. No water or gas or anything

hope she gets her money back

I’m starting to get bored of everyone now and would like this to finish.

TheIdlerReturns · 17/06/2026 21:44

It was filmed in Malta, but looks very Greek. Looks beautiful.

Delatron · 18/06/2026 11:39

I felt you could tell it wasn’t Greece as it wasn’t quite as beautiful!

ConstanzeMozart · 18/06/2026 11:42

I've never been to Greece (or indeed Malta) but I didn't think it looked that nice. The sea was sparkly and enticing, but the beaches looked exposed and hostile and the countryside was barren IMO.

the80sweregreat · 18/06/2026 11:53

Never been to Malta ( this is in Gozo) but some Greek islands and resorts are pretty. This does look barren and dusty. It was filmed in the winter as well.

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/06/2026 19:10

I’ve been to both Greece and Malta and it may look sunny but it’s cold in winter

I didn’t understand the money thing. Was it Zoe or Jess?

AmazingGreatAunt · 21/06/2026 09:12

Iwatched this all in one week on iPlayer.
It annoyed me intensely. Poor choice of accommodation, poor organisation, children more or less ignored. Nobody putting on sunscreen or appearing to drink much water despite being out in the sun all the time.
No respect for local culture or customs.
Also noticed that the food and drink bore little to no ressemblance to what you could expect to find in Greece.
As to the story itself, it started very slowly and I am still not sure what my conclusion should be. I did not find the character of Zoe at all sympathetic; doormat with a very selfish streak.

MulberryBrandy · 21/06/2026 09:29

It is tempting to comment on some of this but I am not sure what episode this thread is up to! It would be good for those who have finished to look at the Spoilers thread of this same series. Many of the points raised on here have been thrashed out - no one seems to understand everything though ...

purpleme12 · 21/06/2026 09:47

@ConstanzeMozart I thought it was saying that Zoe had stolen the money from Jess

deeahgwitch · 21/06/2026 10:01

What a total mess of a holiday (so far - aren’t there 3 more episodes? ).

purpleme12 · 21/06/2026 09:47

@ConstanzeMozart I thought it was saying that Zoe had stolen the money from Jess

But the money was found in Jess’s bag, no?
