What TV shows have you been unable to get into even though they are meant to be amazing?

For me it’s The Sopranos, The Bear, and Succession. I also gave up on Severance. Just never went back. I don’t get The Bear at all. I haven’t completely written these off and would go back if someone can strenuously argue for them in a way that persuades me!

The Pitt

I’ve watched it but don’t think it’s as amazing as everyone says, it’s alright, and no more

Game of Thrones
Schitts Creek
Fleabag
Peaky Blinders ( I find Cillian Murphy really creepy, so that put me off ).

MJNewbie2026 · 02/05/2026 20:33

Breaking bad. Sex and the city. Stranger things. White lotus. Dexter. Yellowstone

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 02/05/2026 20:34

@MJNewbie2026 Dexter is good for about 4 seasons and then just dramatically falls off and goes to shit. Not worth the time investment.

Better Call Saul. Only managed season 1 - just dull and nothing happens.

Same

Framboisery · 02/05/2026 20:35

The Americans. Tried a couple of episodes and then gave up.

But everyone says it's brilliant so I may have to try again. Trouble is it's a big commitment .

I’ve watched it all. There are some really boring episodes. It does all pay off but it’s a bit of a slog.

ive not watched it for many years, but my now ex-husband said that he thought the background music hypnotised me because I fell asleep within minutes!!

Hatty65 · 02/05/2026 20:39

Breaking Bad
The Sopranos
The Wire - I dislike violent American stuff

Downton Abbey and various 'historical' dramas.

I'm not a great tv watcher and as an A level History teacher I couldn't get over one of my students insisting that Henry VIII had only one sister because she'd watched 'The Tudors' on tv. I can't bear anything that's historically inaccurate. Apparently in the show he has one sister called Margaret who married the King of Portugal.

That made it pretty difficult for them when I was teaching that his sister Margaret married the King of Scotland and his sister Mary married the King of France. I can't get my head round why you would re-write history so badly. I mean, it's not as though The Tudors lacked drama as they were!

I loved The Americans and watched it as it was shown originally but it was never very popular and kept being booted to obscure times and channels over the series. I was really surprised when everyone was raving about it when it was on Disney+ as I'm sure it was nearly cancelled in the UK through lack of interest

whirlyhead · 02/05/2026 20:40

Call the midwife. It could be interesting without the babies.

Framboisery · 02/05/2026 20:41

Also This is Us, that people on here and IRL rave about, but it didn't grab me.

Happyjoe · 02/05/2026 20:45

Never tried Game of Thrones, I don't do dressing up really, with the exception of Trekkies from years ago!

Most of the shows here listed take a while to get into, to start caring about what happens next. I am glad I watched beyond a few of them, like Breaking Bad.

TubeScreamer · 02/05/2026 20:47

peaky blinders
better call saul
slow horses
breaking bad

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 02/05/2026 20:47

@Hatty65 I watched all of The Tudors even though it was terrible and historically inaccurate. There were things that made it quite funny. Henry actually says OK at one point!

I get what you say about violence but The Wire is one of my favourite things, it’s so well crafted and real and educational

No. I thought this was boring. The producers new one Paradise (Disney+) is brilliant though

JuneFromBethesda · 02/05/2026 20:50

Killing Eve. I tried much harder with this than I usually would with a TV series, I really persevered but I found Jodie Comer almost unwatchable. It was a relief to give it up.

ThaneOfGlamis · 02/05/2026 20:53

The Bear and Yellowstone were both just unpleasant people being endlessly depressing. I didn't get mad men at all. Or silo.

Gave up Luther. It was unnecessarily dark.

Bitofashock · 02/05/2026 21:03

Anything where it happens in mostly darkness! Why light things so poorly that the action is mostly hidden? I get they might want to keep it authentic but if I can’t see it clearly then I give up.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 02/05/2026 21:04
