What TV shows have you been unable to get into even though they are meant to be amazing?

For me it’s The Sopranos, The Bear, and Succession. I also gave up on Severance. Just never went back. I don’t get The Bear at all. I haven’t completely written these off and would go back if someone can strenuously argue for them in a way that persuades me!

Any Harlen Coben after watching the first one because they are all the blimmin same.

The Wire because of the language. Incomprehensible and every word a swear word. I like a good swear as much as the anyone but this was ridiculous.

Game of Thrones because the starting scene was just degrading.

Traitors. I knew it wasn't my thing but had a look due to all the hype (plus love Claudia) but wished I hadn't bothered.

Small Prophets.

Just kept wanting it to be a new series of The Detectorists.

Watched two of them I think. Dull.

Also couldn’t with Better Call Saul even though I loved Breaking Bad. I did though find that Breaking Bad needs the full first season to get into.

Better Caul Saul and The Sopranos are my favourite shows but both have first series that are a bit of a struggle. The remaining series are so worth it imo!

The Bear is a strange one. None of the characters are likeable and the episode with the whole family at a party was painful. I’ve never seen so many shit personalities in one room.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 02/05/2026 22:17

Never heard of The Bear

it’s won quite a few awards and I just get nowhere with it !

Can anyone big up Succession or Sopranos to get me watching?

I love how different we are! It’s one of my favourites, SO much happens.

for me:
Peaky Blinders
Downton Abbey

So what actually happens in season 1? And bearing in mind we're talking about 10 x 45 minute episodes.

SoftlyDoesntIt · 02/05/2026 22:22

Surprised to see so many mentions of Peaky Blinders, which I thought was absolutely brilliant.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 02/05/2026 22:26

@SoftlyDoesntIt I gave Peakys about 3 tries before it got me good. The first series has some issues

Severance. I found it interesting at first but went off it towards the end when it just got too weird for me.
I made myself watch to the end of season 1 but I don't think I'll bother with any more.

Yellowstone, I watched the first season a while ago but haven't bothered with the second yet. I like it but I can take it or leave it. There are just no characters that I like or am really rooting for, they are all pretty awful.
I really wanted to love it.

Blarn · 02/05/2026 22:40

Peaky Blinders. I'm from Birmingham and just found some of the accents really laboured.

BurntBroccoli · 02/05/2026 22:41

Schitts Creek, Fleabag, Succession, and lost interest in House a bit too!

Lomonald · 02/05/2026 22:42

Fleabag I think its absolute rubbish and .I find PWB quite jarring I can't even listen to her.

Shufflebumnessie · 02/05/2026 22:45

Breaking Bad
Sneaky Pete

I can beat that. Watched it through to Season 4 in a binge watch and then just never went back. It was repetitive and I stopped caring

Stranger Things started off well but eventually turned into Scooby Doo.

Wildchild60s · 02/05/2026 22:49

Bluey!! My DC love it, DH loves it. Friends tell me it's very clever, works on different levels of humour and will make me laugh and cry. I just find it annoying

chocolateaddictions · 02/05/2026 22:55

SoftlyDoesntIt · 02/05/2026 20:22

Better Call Saul. Only managed season 1 - just dull and nothing happens.

Me too. I wanted to love it. DH still says it’s the best show he’s ever seen and it’s not usually his kind of thing at all.

Also Stranger things.

going back a bit but really didn’t like I Claudius.

NeedToKnow101 · 02/05/2026 22:55

Watched two episodes of the Bear. It was so noisy and chaotic we couldn’t be arsed to watch any more. Watched one episode of Fleabag and felt quite sad that she felt pressured into anal (if I remember rightly) so I didn’t watch any more. I’m sure lots more but I can’t remember.

Agree with this, thought Fleabag was absolute tosh!

Are you me? I couldn't get into all of them.

chocolateaddictions · 02/05/2026 22:57

Also Traitors. I found it so boring.

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 02/05/2026 22:57

I couldn’t get into The Sopranos but have watched Succession 3 times over now. It’s brilliant, even though I don’t really understand a lot of the business stuff! The characters are in the main, pretty terrible people, but watching the shifting alliances, suspicion and general narcissism, the backstabbing and sibling rivalry, it is actually pretty compelling, and I love Kieran Culkin in it.

ikeepforgetting · 02/05/2026 22:58

Mad Men

Did she feel pressured? I seem to remember her being a willing participant! She was definitely self destructive and using casual sex as self harm, but I thought Fleabag was excellent. It took me a few tries to get into as I hate the breaking of the fourth wall, but in the end that became its charm.

worrisomeasset · 02/05/2026 23:05

Couldn’t get into The Bear at all. I watched the first 3 episodes of Mad Men, dull, dull deadly dull. I liked the first series of Breaking Bad (the best advert for the National Health Service that I’ve ever seen), but all the subsequent series and Better Call Saul were shite.

emmetgirl · 02/05/2026 23:05

Peaky Blinders- I just don’t get it.
Game of Thrones- awful
