What TV shows have you been unable to get into even though they are meant to be amazing?

For me it’s The Sopranos, The Bear, and Succession. I also gave up on Severance. Just never went back. I don’t get The Bear at all. I haven’t completely written these off and would go back if someone can strenuously argue for them in a way that persuades me!

I've never started many of these, as I know I won't make it all the way through.

Westworld was one I started several times, as people were raving about it, but it was no good, I just couldn’t cope with the premise and all the fairly unlikeable people.

Some of these series seem to go on for ever, too. Life is too short.

asdbaybeeee · 02/05/2026 23:11

Schitts creek
good wife
peaky blinders
sex and the city (I enjoyed the films tho)
911
ozark

GarlicMind · 02/05/2026 23:12

I've just finished a mega-binge on Game of Thrones. It was much less rapey than I expected, but I skipped two whole seasons in the middle and several episodes of the others. It just got too samey - men fighting in gloomy monochrome. I checked Wikipedia to see who won. Also got quite annoyed that I could reliably do three 10-second skips during meaningful close-ups: the acting was superb throughout, but they didn't need to showcase it at such length!

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was much more fun but I probably shan't bother with future seasons.

JuliettaCaeser · 02/05/2026 23:14

Silent witness is so bad it’s good. Hilarious that this season every time either of the couple try to make a friend outside their relationship the “friend” ends up trying to either kill them or frame them for a murder. This may explain why they have zero friends!

StephensLass1977 · 02/05/2026 23:18

-The Wire
-Malcoim In The Middle
-Any reality show - I've never seen I'm a Celebrity, Big Brother, Traitors, X Factor, etc.
-I only started watching Friends in April 2026.

FionnulaTheCooler · 02/05/2026 23:18

Schitts Creek and Fleabag for me too, gave up after one episode of both of them. I can't be bothered with anything you have to "stick with" before it gets good. Watching TV shouldn't feel like a chore, there's plenty of other things on streaming.

Xanadu78 · 02/05/2026 23:21

Peaky blinders- too violent
The gilded age - slow
white lotus - tried and failed

Tried to watch the kardashians, real housewives, made in Chelsea, made in Essex… can’t do it, they are all far too vapid!

Xanadu78 · 02/05/2026 23:22

Mad men is also one I have tried several times. I’m a graphic designer so it’s my area of expertise. Can’t get into it though

moto748e · 03/05/2026 01:21

Breaking Bad
Fleabag
Baby Reindeer

I recently watched Mad Men end to end and really enjoyed it. Perhaps it’s better if you binge it ? It’s more character driven than story driven

Never got into Schitts Creek I tried a few times and just could not get it!

Downton Abbey/Bridgerton

Most reality TV, never watched Love Island or MAFS or Traitors

Dexter

Simonjt · 03/05/2026 09:07

Better call Saul, I loved breaking bad as well.

White Lotus, Line of Duty, Ozark and the walking dead. I always dislike medical based TV.

I am however loving The Boys, I’ve not long watched Heated Rivalry and that was very good.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 03/05/2026 09:11

@Simonjt

Give Line Of Duty the benefit of the first season, it’s the weakest and gets so much better after that

I I gave up The Boys after about 4 episodes and Heated Rivalry I didn’t get far at all just wasn’t following it

Bridgerton
Absolutely awful, I tried to love it but I just don't get it

I always watch at least three episodes of a series, Line of Duty were the worst three episodes of anything I have ever watched, and thats saying something as I watched three episodes of snowpiercer!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 03/05/2026 09:18

Snowpiercer! So much potential squandered! I don’t know if the books are better as I haven’t read them but it could have been brilliant

I still watch it but undoubtedly it peaked in Series 1 so if you didn’t like that there’s no point continuing

Schitts Creek - tried twice, not my thing.
Stranger Things - first season was good then I CBA
Breaking Bad - dh and DS loved it though.

i hate any crime syndicate type programme like Kin and The Cage - watched first episode of the latter and CBA. I’m fine with a thriller or police type programme like Blue Lines or Line of Duty.

I was the same. Should’ve loved it as I loved historical stuff and Downton Abbey but similar just didn’t get it.

@Hatty65 I watched all of The Tudors even though it was terrible and historically inaccurate. There were things that made it quite funny. Henry actually says OK at one point!

I get what you say about violence but The Wire is one of my favourite things, it’s so well crafted and real and educational

I loved the Tudors partly for the bad acting!

Neveranynamesleft · 03/05/2026 09:29

Ted Lasso. Boring.
