New sex episode drama two episodes a week on Friday night times three weeks

As a huge storm starts to form far out at sea, a teacher and former detective, Jackie Ellis (Kelly Reilly), finds the body of her 8-year-old student, Cefin, who appears to have drowned.

This shocking discovery stirs up the town's memories of an unresolved case from three years earlier—the disappearance of Jackie’s niece, Nessa, which ruined her career.

Cefin's death brings back Jackie's old partner, Detective Eric Bull (Rafe Spall), to lead the investigation in a community where he previously failed. Believing the two cases are connected, Jackie and Bull must work together to uncover hidden secrets in Morfa Halen before the storm hits and wipes away any evidence

I , as often - seem to be one of the few who enjoyed it an kept me guessing

I mean it kept me guessing. As I definitely said who is Mack when Dylan said his name.
and when he attacked bull I said “who is that” - I thought it was dad of dead boy for a bit.

it was glossy and I like rafe so it passed the 6 weeks.

Dross

I also thought he was the dead boys dad

I had completely forgotten Mac existed. DP and I both went, 'Who?' when he was 'revealed'.
He was in it so little and we saw so little of his character and actions that I just didn't buy that he'd kill two kids.
A let-down.

I do like Rafe though (I'm choosing to ignore the accent) and Kelly R is beautiful, and I agree she looks no more than very early 40s. I'm envious. I also liked her slightly 60s Jane Birkin look with the perpetually smudgy eye make-up and tousled hair.

@whenwhenwhen ' gay weathermen' made me Grin Grin Grin

I thought it looked a bit cgi ?

Yeh it did now you mention it.

I’m glad others have said what dirge it was as it just annoyed me. I like Rafe though generally.

Rollergirl11 · 02/03/2026 18:32

It had such potential to be good but they just frittered it away with a shockingly bad jumbled storyline.

Why would anybody think it’s a good idea to fill the sea walls with toxic waste?! I mean, there’s a fair chance they might need them in working order given their location!

How did you know this

How do people not know this?
The show made everything clear, people must have been watching while on their phones!

The accents were all over the place.
Mac Jones had an Irish accent. Obviously the actor Brian Gleeson is from Ireland.
Jackie, despite supposedly being born and bred there certainly didn’t have a Welsh accent.
Rafe’s accent was not great either.

No idea why they made Rafe a brummie, it wasn’t relevant to the story and his accent was crap 🙄

Kendrickspenguin · 04/03/2026 21:44

I became more and more annoyed as this programme went on.

Why was Jackie allowed to investigate her own niece's murder?
Why is Jackie so supremely selfish and tedious?
Why did Bull's accent change so often?
Why did people spend ages standing next to their cars in the pouring rain? At least get into them even if you have no other shelter.

I watched until the end for the sake of completion, but it was one of the worst things I have seen in quite some time. That is really saying something since I have been known to watch dramas on channel 5.

Nofeckingway · 04/03/2026 22:14

I too thought it was utter dross. Kept watching thinking that it must get better. So out of nowhere Mac with his bizarre accent killed two kids , for no real reason . If they didn't want to get caught , why put it in sea wall . So many anomalies. Get yer hair out of your eyes Jackie . And no chemistry with Dylan , the secret boyfriend . She looked like his mum . Absolutely hated it . Time I won't get back dammit. Grr 😡! 😂

I've just watched this.

When I finally realised that Mac was played by Brian Gleeson I did wonder.

Is Kelly Reilly a really bad actress?

Why didn't people just tell her to fuck off as she was a teacher not police?

Argh!!!

Yep exactly

Thinking back I'm not entirely sure I understood what was going on anyway!

Ned was letting toxic waste be dumped on Bevan land to keep the farm going?

Mac & Dylan were disposing of the waste(?)

Mac was also mixing it into concrete used for the sea wall.

Cefin discovered this at Sunnyside(?) was injured, killed by Mac & dumped elsewhere.

Did the same happen to Nessa or did she die more or less where she was found?

Thunderpunt · 01/04/2026 19:02

Watched to the end but very much a pile of tosh 🤣 and I don’t think I really understood what was going on with the toxic waste, or if Mac meant to kill the kids or if Nessa was burned so badly she was dieting anyway, and furthermore I didn’t really care by the end! Onwards!

yes, to all of these, I think.
Except I don't know what happened to Nessa, apart from didn't he try to clean her off in the abandoned building, where the other kid's welly was found?
I'm not convinced that the waste would have burned her, and I don't know why he killed her.
It was a mess.
