New sex episode drama two episodes a week on Friday night times three weeks

As a huge storm starts to form far out at sea, a teacher and former detective, Jackie Ellis (Kelly Reilly), finds the body of her 8-year-old student, Cefin, who appears to have drowned.

This shocking discovery stirs up the town's memories of an unresolved case from three years earlier—the disappearance of Jackie’s niece, Nessa, which ruined her career.

Cefin's death brings back Jackie's old partner, Detective Eric Bull (Rafe Spall), to lead the investigation in a community where he previously failed. Believing the two cases are connected, Jackie and Bull must work together to uncover hidden secrets in Morfa Halen before the storm hits and wipes away any evidence

Sad that Carys died - her poor brother

They fumbled the reveal/ending in my opinion. So Mac sort of accidentally killed both kids in the same way? He just happened to be there BOTH times? They didn’t explain how Nessa had severe burns. Why was Mac hot all night when he went to the pub after killing Cevan?

Agree. By the final episode I had lost interest really. It didn’t make much sense to me and August’s death was ignored in the end.
I found Ellis very irritating, too much floating around (no pun intended) with her hands in her pockets, looking mysterious, but also incredibly selfish, telling people things she had no business telling them.

I agree.
Despite watching all the episodes who exactly was Mac ? Blush
Poor August.
The son who sailed away - What happened him ?
Drowned ?

Guessing the kids played at the site where they were disposing the waste. Aka the farm

Not sure I’d bother with another series, if there was one.

burnoutbabe · 01/03/2026 15:18

I think Mack was the brother in law of Jackie? I assume her dad had daughters with 2 women, leading to nisha and mother of nessa?

not sure I’d watch another one as a mystery it completely failed. Surely Dylan would face sone criminal charges for doing stuff to waste?

I couldn’t get to the end. Dh watched but I phased out, Jackie was too irritating and the story was not captivating enough to make sense.

Jackie and Lydia are sisters, with the same parents. Lydia is married to Dev Taman and they had a child - Nessa.

Dev's sister is Nisha and she is married to Mac Jones making Jackie and Nisha related via marriage.

Loose ends:
How can Nisha stay a teacher at the school when her husband has killed not one, but two of its pupils?

Surely Dylan faces a spell in prison, building toxic waste into a seawall can't be legal? It looked like the sea wall was crumbling because of the way it was built, how could the other villagers ever forgive him? He'd have to live somewhere else, would Jackie leave with him?

Did Dylan know about August. Did he realise Mac had killed him?

Is Dylan as thick as I think he is? (Setting the fact that he knew Jackie was pregnant aside)

burnoutbabe · 01/03/2026 17:36

Aha I was wondering how Jackie and her were related, hence assuming second marriage for Jackie’s dad. Thanks!

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 01/03/2026 17:50

It was really poor. Obtuse for the sake of it. The best bit was the police man getting it on with the weather guy

NecklessMumster · 01/03/2026 18:18

Oh man, that was terrible. I should have given up watching but wanted a resolution and ended up quite enjoying shouting at the TV. I liked Jackie's lovely face but she only had one pouty expression and ran around shouting at everyone. None of it made much sense, I can imagine it working better as a novel. People standing in the woods in a gale/rain? Knowing there's a flood coming and leaving all your stuff out?

Perfidia · 01/03/2026 18:24

I did feel dreadfully frustrated about all the police work, notice boards and files, etc, just being abandoned to the flood.

burnoutbabe · 01/03/2026 18:28

And why was pub land lady dead? She and her dogs went up the stairs and the water didn’t reach that high?

That means he killed his own niece. I don’t think they were related.

OP posts:
burnoutbabe · 01/03/2026 19:35

It sounds like they are related. It’s the daughter of his wife’s brother. So he was her uncle.

The only thing that interested me was how did they film the storms.

NecklessMumster · 01/03/2026 20:18

I thought it looked a bit cgi ?

How did you know this

@Blondeshavemorefun i think I picked up the connection in the episode where Jackie really pissed off her sister at the wake type ceremony. I'm not sure it was really clearly spelt out though.
I did pay attention to the family relationships as it went on (and on) as I thought it might mean something. It didn't really in the end. To be honest I'd almost forgotten Mac existed until he popped up again in the last episode. And I only remembered who he was married to when Jackie went to Nisha and Macs house.
Such a shame, the whole series could have been a lot better.

berlinbaby2025 · 01/03/2026 22:24

Dear God, this was such a turkey. I can only think Kelly wanted to pay off her mortgage and Rafe pay a years worth of school fees? Otherwise why they both signed onto do this dreary and unengaging shite I have no idea.

Perfidia · 01/03/2026 22:33

😂

Well said @berlinbaby2025, it was dire with dark lighting, constant rain, rubbish fake accents, Kelly looking so out of place - such an odd mix of actors in the cast with money no doubt being the main motivation to accept the roles because it’s can’t have been the script or storylines.
