New sex episode drama two episodes a week on Friday night times three weeks

As a huge storm starts to form far out at sea, a teacher and former detective, Jackie Ellis (Kelly Reilly), finds the body of her 8-year-old student, Cefin, who appears to have drowned.

This shocking discovery stirs up the town's memories of an unresolved case from three years earlier—the disappearance of Jackie’s niece, Nessa, which ruined her career.

Cefin's death brings back Jackie's old partner, Detective Eric Bull (Rafe Spall), to lead the investigation in a community where he previously failed. Believing the two cases are connected, Jackie and Bull must work together to uncover hidden secrets in Morfa Halen before the storm hits and wipes away any evidence

She was definitely sacked for gross misconduct and then - incredibly - went on to become a primary school teacher.

I do like it though. Suspending my disbelief.

Just want to say that Jonathan Pryce's acting is outstanding. I had to google his wiki page after watching all 4 episodes to see what he has been involved in when he was younger. He has been nominated for Oscars previously - he should have won one of them! There are some very good actors in the series but he is a masterclass in it. In every scene Pryce is in, he is the highlight!

Perfidia · 14/02/2026 07:39

Have you not seen him in Slow Horses? I’ve been amazed that he hasn’t won every prize available for his acting in that.

No, I haven't seen him in Slow Horses. Thanks for the recommendation. I'm going to search out more things he is in - he has a new fan here.

NewAgeNewMe · 14/02/2026 07:58

He’s a fab actor. Love everything I have ever watched him in. He’s fantastic as Peron in evita. My go to film when I’m not 100% as music is so good.

deeahgwitch · 14/02/2026 08:48

I thought the body was the man Jess Deng questioned in the caravan, August ?

Rollergirl11 · 14/02/2026 08:55

I think the young lad killed his friend and somebody else killed Nessa. The similar hand span thing is a red herring.

Why did the young lads break in to environmental scientist guys place? What were they hoping to find?

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/02/2026 09:01

I watched last night then went to bed. Sure I replied on here but seems not

might be on another thread 😂

Bull can’t take no for an answer. I thought he was a bit rough with his ex lover. He said no an carried on

then when a policeman says stop you stop

was it copper or lover - can’t be both

I thought it was August in the water. Was he killed as he blabbed or did he kill his self due to guilt

would hate the be cut off like that with the causeway. Wonder how deep /under water the road gets - could a Jeep 4 by 4 with an air spout get through

so grandad found nessa but wrapped her up and hid her so that his land /farm wouldn’t be compromised ?

I think it’s the same killer so someone who lived there for years

and yes boyfriend a bit stupid to normal she was preg

and so why a punch she gave bull. No wonder she lost her job

but yes seems suss she got a job as a teacher / assuming would show up as assaulting a police officer on her dbs

Really ? His friend

I’m thinking an adult but God knows who

Yes but who was august? How does he relate to farm family etc?

I too thought the young friend killed his mate due to hand size and bee stings but that doesn’t explain nessa?

He is a farm worker who lives in a caravan on the Bevan farm.

In the show, August is central to the investigation, specifically being tracked down in a pub by police after a body is discovered in a, drainage ditch, with a notable plot point involving him pretending not to speak English.

bur he obv does speak English and spills beans and now is dead

It's really Shell Island, which is a campsite, and on a spring tide I don't think anything can get through. IRL the village is mainland though.

rightoguvnor · 17/02/2026 20:18

I think Jackie jumped from the police before she was pushed. This is often the way in order to leave with an untarnished record. Didnt someone say in Ep 1 ‘you should never have left the police’.

No, she was fired for gross misconduct. You saw the woman detective looking up Jackie’s file on the computer and she watched a video of Jackie attacking Bull.

Utterly ridiculous and unrealistic that this information would be accessible to anyone who felt like doing a bit of digging.

NewAgeNewMe · 20/02/2026 21:49

Jackie is so unlikeable. Mind you I don’t know what I’d be like if it was my niece.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/02/2026 21:54

I don’t think she’s that bad

she loved her niece
