New sex episode drama two episodes a week on Friday night times three weeks

As a huge storm starts to form far out at sea, a teacher and former detective, Jackie Ellis (Kelly Reilly), finds the body of her 8-year-old student, Cefin, who appears to have drowned.

This shocking discovery stirs up the town's memories of an unresolved case from three years earlier—the disappearance of Jackie’s niece, Nessa, which ruined her career.

Cefin's death brings back Jackie's old partner, Detective Eric Bull (Rafe Spall), to lead the investigation in a community where he previously failed. Believing the two cases are connected, Jackie and Bull must work together to uncover hidden secrets in Morfa Halen before the storm hits and wipes away any evidence

I thought he was the man in the drawings - the ones they thought was beekeeper suit

imagine if it was Dylan. She’s shagging /pregnant by man who killed her niece

Only one more episode I think. Jonathan Pryce has been outstanding.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/02/2026 08:55

Hate Jackie’s way if keep asking people the same thing twice.

i assume they put toxic waste in the sea walls to transport it to the island then onto the quarry. And means the sea walls are rubbish!
no idea why people were going to stabs in a forest during a storm and not even stay in their cars! That seemed fairly bonkers
i still think it’s James who did it or at least Kevin.

whenwhenwhen · 22/02/2026 04:09

Very little in this show makes sense.

Jackie is a primary school teacher who... does no teaching (or planning, or marking). Instead she wafts around the island looking moody and doing completely random things, like turning up to funerary celebrations and ruining them. Or breathily muttering "WHY DIDN'T WE FIND HER - ALL THOSE YEARS, UNDER ALL THAT RUBBISH..."

Bull is a completely incompetent policeman who fails to follow leads, who keeps giving his ex-wife access to confidential police information and documents, who randomly decides to eat bits of plants by the roadside and/or have one night stands with gay weathermen, while ignoring:

Deng, who is a sensible and competent officer, but who inexplicably ignores all of Bull's stupidity, while being treated with total contempt by him, despite the fact that she's a way better detective.

Literally everyone in the village wants the murderer found, but they are all completely unwilling to provide any help or assistance to the police, and they all mutter in their dodgy Welsh accents about "outsideerrrs".

Each to their own, and if you are enjoying this I'm happy for you, but... in my opinion, it's a load of old shite!

Perfidia · 22/02/2026 05:40

We did see her doing some marking in an earlier episode, didn’t we?

And we’ve seen her often in school, doing her job.

Where was it established that she is Bull’s ex-wife? They are former professional partners. I’m confused!

Bull isn’t randomly eating bits of roadside plants - it’s clearly something in which he has a deep interest, and has found to be useful in assessing evidence. (Whether we think his interest is random is a different matter!)

Detective Jess Deng is fully alive to Bull’s inconsistencies. She’s not ignoring them!

My main complaint is that Jackie inexplicably wasn’t questioned immediately after finding the boy - but was instead free to wander off and tell his family, which was obviously the responsibility of the police.

To my mind the whole thing is over produced, which leads into silliness. But the weather is impressive.

burnoutbabe · 22/02/2026 09:57

Yes bull is gay, hence having sex with men! She is not his ex wife.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/02/2026 15:11

They were police partners. Not romantic ones

It is pretty bad, Jackie is painful to watch and too full on. I like the scenery so keep watching for that.

kelly is too perfect , her face doesn’t move , totally unbelievable character , she spoils the whole show

Yes, I agree. She’s a very good actress but not right for her role here.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/02/2026 13:03

E6 tonight. Final one

who is the killer - hopefully not her boyfriend and baby’s father tho it didn’t look good

NewAgeNewMe · 27/02/2026 15:54

Half way through final episode. She’s a very annoying character and I’m not sure, if it is the way the actress plays Jackie Ellis, or it’s the way she’s written.

Perfidia · 27/02/2026 17:54

Finished - and still don’t care more than the absolute minimum. The weather again was impressive, but so much padding out of the story with - water.

And yes, it might have been very different with a more animated actress in the main role.

Perfidia · 27/02/2026 17:54

Duplicate.

Rollergirl11 · 27/02/2026 20:03

Am I being utterly dim? What exactly happened? They didn’t explain it properly!

Rollergirl11 · 27/02/2026 20:08

Who killed August and why??!

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/02/2026 21:10

I’ve seen but won’t say anything till 10 incase anyone is watching tv paced

i was but now watching death in paradise

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 27/02/2026 22:12

Yah. Dylan wasn’t the killer an he knew she was preg so wasn’t totally stupid and true she didn’t let him in. It seems at end they are in a better place

the white suit was to protect him from waste

tho they said about burns before - what waste can be so dangerous that can burn/kill a child

so anyone suss Mac ? I def didn’t and looks likely he killed August as well

bull was going to let her kill /drown Mac but glad she came to her senses and pulled him up

and dang I think her name was - bulls partner isn’t going to report him so all ended well

apart from their village that is totally flooded and drying out their houses and belongings will take a long time

all in all a very good drama and I enjoyed

OP posts:
Perfidia · 28/02/2026 03:26

I did guess it was Mac(k?), yes. Only because he was the only prominent man who hadn’t yet been accused!

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/02/2026 08:18

Well done @Perfidia
