New sex episode drama two episodes a week on Friday night times three weeks

As a huge storm starts to form far out at sea, a teacher and former detective, Jackie Ellis (Kelly Reilly), finds the body of her 8-year-old student, Cefin, who appears to have drowned.

This shocking discovery stirs up the town's memories of an unresolved case from three years earlier—the disappearance of Jackie’s niece, Nessa, which ruined her career.

Cefin's death brings back Jackie's old partner, Detective Eric Bull (Rafe Spall), to lead the investigation in a community where he previously failed. Believing the two cases are connected, Jackie and Bull must work together to uncover hidden secrets in Morfa Halen before the storm hits and wipes away any evidence

I’ve watched 2 eps tonight. I really enjoyed them.
Brummie accent - distracted by trying to work out Brummie or Black Country.
Lip Filler - yes somewhat distracting.
Overall - intriguing, loved the kids, will definitely watch the rest and have pressed record just in case.
Discord - Jackie Ellis and secret boyfriend, just don’t seem a good match. Maybe he will step up as a father?

Ha! I was going to post the same. Too swollen in the middle. Although I do love her and got a girl crush.

She's had lips like that before lip fillers were a thing,I think they're her natural shape.

The accents were horrendous and distracting.

Blueskiesnotgrey · 31/01/2026 01:39

The accents are all over the place. Why couldn't they cast ore Welsh actors ffs. The secret boyfriend who was in Indistry Harry Lawtey is also murdering a Welsh accent (why is he secret?). Its very grating and spoiling it a bit for me. As is Kelly Reilly character being pregnant when the actress playing her is 48.

And all the flooding business and a village about to be washed away by a storm off Mexico but everyone refusing to leave was a bit far fetched!

Disappointing overall for me.

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/01/2026 08:42

I did wonder what the song was that they sang ?

seeing welsh subtitles is weird as the double letters in words

Enjoyed e2. As always this is tv paced. I know I watched daytime via sky recording at 2am so I could watch death in paradise

So who do we think is the killer

and did they kill her niece as well.

Or have 2 killers?

OP posts:
berlinbaby2025 · 31/01/2026 08:47

So has only one episode been shown on Sky? I watch on Now and have seen the first two episodes.

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/01/2026 08:48

No 1&2 were on last night

OP posts:
SergeantWrinkles · 31/01/2026 08:50

Ooh I like the sound of that!

burnoutbabe · 31/01/2026 09:46

Zero idea on the killer! Do we have many options beyond

gay tinder date?
kieran
mum or dad of kevin
many interchangeable Bevin cousins
bevin uncle or grandfather
kevin friend James
or his mum and brother (secret boyfriend)
the lady boat driver
red headed lady’s sister (accused of murder in past)
any of the 3 detectives.

I didn’t catch who the missing girl was in relation to anyone else?

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/01/2026 12:11

Missing girl was her neice. Her sisters child

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 31/01/2026 12:11

OP posts:
BlondeFool · 31/01/2026 12:28

I have a feeling the sister might be in prison

Perfidia · 31/01/2026 19:01

God, it’s hard work. So over produced and stupidly, pointlessly eerie. The moment I realised it reminded me of Weapons (worst film I’ve seen this century) was the moment I lost confidence in it.

The teacher is too beautiful to be living a quiet life as a teacher. She’d have been scouted and thrown onto catwalks decades ago.

Why does everybody have to be made to look like a suspect?

Why is there so much creepy music?

Why are they all living in such a godforsaken place anyway??

I did laugh when the Detective’s landlady made him strip on the lino, though. 😂

Ikeameatballs · 31/01/2026 19:10

Grandad played by Jonathan Pryce for the killer. No motive, I just can’t watch him without thinking of him in Game of Thrones as the mad monk character.

Perfidia · 31/01/2026 19:13

I can’t watch him without thinking of River Cartwright’s grandpa in Slow Horses. That was a stunning performance.

Rollergirl11 · 31/01/2026 21:11

Weapons was excellent and is absolutely nothing like it! What reminds you of it @Perfidia?

Rollergirl11 · 31/01/2026 21:16

So why had Nessa done a pic of the bee suit if Ciaran’s link to Cefin has now been explained?

Perfidia · 31/01/2026 21:57

The general over-egging of the creepiness element. I know (assume) there’s nothing supernatural here, so I wish they’d made different production decisions.

Probably. Or he's covering for the killer. Someone of Jonathan Pryce's reputation is unlikely to be given a tiny part in a TV show like this.

Perfidia · 31/01/2026 22:11

What, exactly, does ‘under’ mean in ‘Under Salt Marsh’? …

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/01/2026 22:55

under as the body was sinking in the wet Marsh

OP posts:
Perfidia · 31/01/2026 23:04

But that’s obvious, and surely not important enough to be in the title?

(I honestly can’t understand why any parent would choose to bring up children in such a dangerous environment.)
