yah it’s back. The easy watching murders and guessing which of the usually 4 suspects did it

The 15th season of the beloved, sun-dappled detective show will start airing on 30th January 2026, with the first episode airing at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

We don't yet know much about what will take place in the new episodes, but we do know that Don Gilet will be back as DI Mervin Wilson (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/death-in-paradise-cast/), along with Shantol Jackson as DS Naomi Thomas, Ginny Holder as Officer Darlene Curtis, Shaquille Ali-Yebuah as Officer Sebastian Rose and Elizabeth Bourgine as Catherine Bordey.

Meanwhile, we're expecting Don Warrington to return as Commissioner Selwyn Patterson, after his future on the series was thrown into doubt all through last season. Esp after the Christmas episode

After he decided not to take his job back at the end of season 14, he was seen visiting the UK in the Christmas special.

Coming to realise how important his job and Saint Marie were to him, Patterson was seen calling the chief commissioner at the end of that episode, asking if his role was still vacant (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/death-in-paradise-selwyn-wants-job-back-newsupdate/) and whether he could return to it.

Meanwhile, season 15 is also likely to see Mervin getting to know the brother he never knew he had, after he managed to make contact with him briefly in the Christmas special.

Addition of the niece is not a positive. I ended up fast forwarding through the scenes with her. I'm quite sad that this is the first time I've thought maybe I won't bother with the next series 😕 Also, I hate the Commissioner (he's such as pompous bully yet everyone thinks he's marvellous) and I was really happy when he left so I was so disappointed he was brought back.

tinyspiny · 29/03/2026 17:46

I totally agree that the niece is not going to add anything to DIP and im not sure we will bother with the next series . How they solved this weeks crime was petty ludicrous as well

BreakfastOfWaffles · 29/03/2026 17:49

I wonder if the niece is just there as a reason for Mervin to stay in touch with Solomon now he's in custody, so they can spin the storyline out a bit more. I really dislike precocious kids as characters though, it's so old hat.

I am with you on the Commissioner. I was hoping for some fresh person to take over and jazz things up a bit.

Romeiswheretheheartis · 29/03/2026 18:13

That whole storyline of the Commissioner losing his job then getting it back again was pointless. It would have been better to jazz it up with a replacement and have Selwyn hanging out all the time in Catherine's Bar poking his nose in and annoying everyone (pretty much what he does anyway).

NewAgeNewMe · 29/03/2026 18:20

As much as I hate to say it, it seems to have lost its way a bit.

RaraRachael · 29/03/2026 18:38

Solomon wasn't a good addition and neither is the niece.
Surely the commissioner is well past retiring age.
I'm not particularly interested in a new series either as the stories are becoming even less believable. This series seems to have been quite different from previous ones, not in a good way.

I don't watch either of the spin offs as I couldn't stand bumbling Humphrey or that awful stomping Australian woman.

2Rebecca · 29/03/2026 18:59

The plot of this one was less guessable but I doubt I will watch any more if the niece stays. I preferred the old commissioner who was a minor part as was Catherine. I dislike Martha and her mother in the Humphrey spin off. Too often the plots now just involve predictable time differences

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/03/2026 20:53

I like all the paradise series’s

I like the original one and Beyond Paradise but I stopped watching the Australian one because her ill-fitting perma-waistcoats really annoyed me!

ButWhysTheRumGone · 04/04/2026 08:40

Good I love Humphrey. I identify with him so much, except the clumsiness, but I keep most of it hidden at great cost. I’m liking there’s not always a murder. I don’t like the chief at all but love Selwyn and how measured he is. I like duck Selwyn too!

Rubinia · 04/04/2026 09:12

I found this series of DiP a bit of a let down overall. It just didn’t get off the ground.
watched Beyond Paradise yesterday.
Meh- Martha and her mum don’t need such big parts.

CollaterlieSistersSister · 05/04/2026 08:59

As child actors go, the niece isn’t too bad (so far, I may change my mind next series). But I agree that she is a really unnecessary character, with the potential to be so very annoying.

I'd also be really pee’d off if someone kept getting my name wrong!

This series hasn’t been great. I like the odd silly show that you can just waste away an hour on without thinking too much. But the writers now need checking for possession of illegal substances, some of the plots and denouements were absolutely barking.

NeedWineNow · 05/04/2026 09:41

Me and DH caught up on the last episode yesterday.

Whilst we've still enjoyed the series overall as it's an easy watch with a bit of the Caribbean scenery over winter, we both agreed that it has been quite a weak one. I remain to be convinced by Don Gilet, and the niece is going to wind me up something chronic - I'm another one who loathes precocious children. I don't like the Solomon character either, and I think the introduction of both is a mistake. That said, it won't stop us watching the next series.

We both enjoy the spin offs as well.

ButWhysTheRumGone · 06/04/2026 08:23

I think I’m a bit in love with Humphrey. I’m really enjoying Beyond Paradise. It demands nothing of me and amuses me which makes it perfect for me as I struggle to pay attention to anything I watch hence typing this whilst watching 🙄
