I couldn’t find a thread, so I thought I’d start one.

Tonight was episode 2/4 and it’s presented by Tim Spector.

My first impression is that I really miss Michael Moseley.

They appear to have found a couple in their mid 60’s that live on pies and wine. They are trying to get them to reduce UPF but that appears to be the least of their issues really.

Tjere was an interesting point about chopping certain vegetables and leaving them 15 minutes to allow them to release some chemical that improves heart health. I’ll be looking into that.

Watching and thinking similar. But they did seem to be a genuinely supportive couple though.

Laughing at next week and saying the chicken skin looked revolting after Jamie, last night, reminding us not to waste it but to fry it. Love chicken skin - it's not a UPF.

FurForksSake · 13/01/2026 21:05

The couple seemed lovely and really tried to embrace it. I did think that perhaps the recurrent cellulitis and her illness and tiredness might have spurred them on to have some something for themselves.

it annoyed me that she lost a “couple of Linda’s” and he lost “7 pounds and 12 inches”, of course he lost more he’s a man and has a lot to loose.

It does amuse me the juxtaposition of their programmes!

@FurForksSake have you learned anything interesting from the programme? I'm not a UPF person but now I'm intrigued by what you said about vegetables!

To be fair, I would like to live on pies and wine too. Is wine a UPF? If I make my own pies from scratch are the allowed?

SwedishEdith · 13/01/2026 21:10

I missed the precise details about chopping the veg but would they not be released by chewing the food?

OP posts:
FurForksSake · 13/01/2026 21:14

@Egglio they said wine was definitely a upf and gave them kombucha instead! She was drinking quite a bit of wine.

Pie if home made is not a upf, they were eating bad pies. Evil pies.

That Is not the first time pounds has changed to Linda’s. I’ve no idea why?! Sorry Linda.

I thought the wine was tenuous because they all have somethings added to stop bacteria forming. I think it's more because she was probably drinking a box a week or something. Their pies were Pukka ones every week. Making your own is not UPF if make your own pastry as well.

Sunshineandrainbow · 13/01/2026 21:14

Haven't watched but intresting about the veg.
I remember reading reheated pasta is better for you as lower carbs once cooled and reheated!

FurForksSake · 13/01/2026 21:16

@Sunshineandrainbow yes! I think that was on a Moseley show, increases resistant starch, though I feel like that wasn’t as good as first thought or something..

@FurForksSake oh that's a shame!

Ok I will keep eating my homemade (inc. pastry!) pies and avoid evil pies. I can't guarantee I will avoid boxed wine, but I'm a work in progress!

I will watch the show - thanks OP!

EmeraldRoulette · 13/01/2026 22:51

@FurForksSake thanks for the information

Also props to you for apologising to Linda 😂

Meredusoleil · 13/01/2026 22:54

I watched the first episode last week, but skipped tonight's one. Have to agree about Jamie Oliver making those chicken thigh skins look gross last night though 🤢

2Rebecca · 13/01/2026 23:31

Not watched it but I make home made pies but my shortcrust is lard and butter so no palm oil but not great for your arteries either, we just don’t eat one every day!

snowsjoke · 14/01/2026 00:30

Yes, miss Michael Mosley. He had a twinkle in his eye but Spector seems a bit humourless.

Liking the recipes though and find the whole show interesting. The original diets seem quite extreme though but I guess there must be a lot of people that eat like this.

Letting pasta and potatoes cool after cooking, raises their resistant starch.
Fortunately, even if you reheat after cooling, the resistant starch remains.

if you Google the benefits of resistant starch, you will see why some people do it.

I saw last week’s with the family with 4 young kids. And the Dad ate pot noodles every night, sometimes with a white bread / processed cheese sandwich to dip in it, and they ate phenomenal amounts of chocolate every night.

They had 4 small children and both worked f/t. I really felt for her and the amount of washing up the prep and cooking the new food regime entailed. But they worked so hard to turn things around and were such a loving and lovely couple.

Why what?

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/01/2026 17:40

Not sure how I missed this. My kinda programme. Thanks @FurForksSake

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/01/2026 19:34

E1. They both eat 2 big bars of chocolate every night 🙀🙀🙀

Darlingx · 16/01/2026 05:29

Ultra processed food the mind control of food.
So all the sweets packaging that is metallics and purples and blues its just to look reflective like water because our primordial brain is seeking hydration for survival water source so anything shimmering taps into that ancient urge but combined that with sugar which is highly addictive 💔They were discussing the colours of packaging attracting the weary traveller at the service station this was the two rival chocolate companies in a docu on the conception of confectionary chocolate I need some kind of hypnosis that chocolate is Caca 💩

LegoTherapy · 16/01/2026 07:29

Ds11 wanted to watch so we’re doing. We are vegetarian and have seen programmes about how sliced ham is made before so no surprises there, just disgust. We eat a relatively low UPF diet. Kids at school mock his homemade soups saying they smell and look like vomit but they see nothing wrong with their ultra processed ham on supermarket bread, kitkats, crisps and high sugar UPF yogurts. UPFs have a negative impact on his ADHD symptoms which is part of the he has a healthy lunch. We do love chocolate though and although we’d eat 70% stuff we prefer Cadburys even though it’s not as good as it used to be.
I don’t drink and found the lady’s wine habit worrisome and was surprised she didn’t struggle to give it up.
I don’t believe that anyone thinks two large bars of chocolate every night is ok.

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/01/2026 08:17

They both had so 4 bars a a night - 28 bars a week
