I can't wait to hear more from Maz, he's not been in it much.

Which may well mean he is not going to be out soon, as he has had little screen time...

CaveMum · 08/01/2026 17:36

@MrsLeonFarrell i think it was mentioned on the BBC website that the producers didn’t know Netty and Ross knew each other to start with.

Another poster on the first thread said, and I agree, you don’t instantly recognise someone you knew via mutual friends from 15 years ago unless something more went on 😜 Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

If that were truly the case you’d both surely be more “Do I know you? Your face is familiar. Oh you’re X’s friend?!”

Instant recognition = casual fling IMHO.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 08/01/2026 17:37

Nettie described Ross as ‘strapping’ or something, which confirmed their fling imo 😂, she defo fancied him

What I find interesting is people thinking they are being framed / set up / targeted when actually they’ve never been mentioned and no one is thinking about them at all. If Ross had stopped going on about how he was being set up he’d have been fine, they’d forgotten about Betty last night (not that that meant he was a traitor anyway). Rachel only did her savage move because he gave her the opportunity.
There is one interchangeable young man who doesn’t seem to have done anything at all - he isn’t Reece or the dangly earring one or the hyperactive one or the one with a very short neck. I only noticed him for the first time last night, he was wearing a dingy knitted jumper. I guess he will feature a bit more later.

Matthew? Northern Irish, jumper tucked into jeans in an ironic 80s way I hope it's ironic anyway

ChinFluff46 · 08/01/2026 17:38

I think Fiona will vote for Stephen at the RT, then say to Rachel in the turret, well I got so few skulls in the challenge, if I voted for Reece it would be obvious it was me.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 08/01/2026 16:46

The levels of paranoia and over-analysis are through the roof! It's all a bit ridiculous. Reece realised he hadn't a prayer of Fiona getting him out of the cage so thought it best to help others. Yet that was interpreted as him being a traitor. Bonkers. I think Rachel may have met her match in Fiona and it'll be interesting to see how their relationship plays out. As for Stephen, well he'll be going soon. He's all over the place and far too easily swayed by Rachel. He also said something at the round table last night that was a slip of the tongue, but I'm hoping someone picked up on.

I honestly think it must just be so weird being on the show that the bleeding obvious fails everyone. Reece could so easily have loudly said “I’m doing it for the money. Seriously, Fiona is nowhere to be seen and there’s no way I’m getting out of here so let’s make sure we get the cash”, but instead mumbled (as we’ve been shown it) “well I’m not getting out of here” and shrugged his shoulders. Which has then aroused suspicion.

It also reinforces that everything can be taken at least two ways, like pp said, Ross was pickled whichever was he answered Rachel’s turret question. The only thing I can think of which would have worked would have been if he’d been quick enough to say “you tell me” and perhaps caught Rachel on the hop, but I think it unlikely.

Thanks! I couldn't remember where it was.

I tend to agree that a friend of a friend from 15 years ago probably wouldn't be instantly memorable. Maybe to one person but both seem to recognise each other instantly. And in no circumstances would I jump into the arms of a casual aquaintance I saw yesterday, let alone so long ago.

Having said that is probably better that they went with the story they did. More respectful to Ellie.

Me too. All we know is he is ex police and has 5 kids. So statistically one of his kids is in there - looking at you Faraaz!

😂

MrsLeonFarrell · 08/01/2026 17:41

If Rachel and Fiona could actually trust each other I think they would be in with a chance of winning.

I think given they follow each other on social media, it is plausible. It’s not like they’ve been completely out of mind for 15 years.

None seem that motivated by the ££ (?) You’d think you’d put emotions to one side & strategise?

I’m also surprised couples aren’t tempted to cheat (?) Concealing identity from a partner for a long time not easy (?)

I Wonder if we'll hear not about the money later on in the game. In series 2 Claudia asked right at the beginning but i don't think she did in this one (i might have forgotten?)

MaggieFS · 08/01/2026 17:46

Coming back to the discussion about Amanda “targeting” Jade. I think it’s a good thing she’s been consistent rather than being a sheep, but she needs to come up with some rationale.

I seriously doubt everyone has a connection, but wouldn’t be surprised if there’s one more. As per ST is really just another discussion topic to feed our interest as viewers until the series really hots up. I’m not a fan, but I don’t really mind it. It rarely seems to help anyone and if it gets out, arouses huge suspicion (a la Ross). I don’t think the lingering Ellie reaction shots were used on previous episodes, just the one where it all got revealed anyway. A bit unnecessary IMHO, but not the end of the world.

Which made me laugh.

Apparently the production team didn't know at the initial audition stage but when they researched them they knew they were friends on social media. Can't remember where I read that though.

Whilst the production team can set up secret relationships they can't interfere to affect the flow of the game because there is money at stake. If anyone is interested in some of the mechanics there was an interview with a senior BBC person on The Rest is Entertainment.

I bet they were frustrated that the secret traitor only lasted a few episodes.

Fiona needed reigning in before she killed all the traitors! Though TBF she is still trying to 🤣

I thought it was hilarious when they showed the really tall red cloaked traitor walking towards the turret and then tiny Fiona appeared inside.

Yes, it was that that confused me. At the beginning of last Friday's episode, I was thinking Fiona was the most likely, and said so to family I was watching with. But all the red-cloaked figure shots appeared to show a very tall person, and on the challenge that day I saw how tiny she was/is next to some of the others; so I started to think it was probably a taller person. She remained on my shortlist of three though, in case they had filmed different people wearing the cloak, which they clearly must have. I was naive enough to think they'd only film the actual secret traitor in question! 🤭

Absolutely, and some very witty stuff. The Redditor was having a laugh and being droll, which I always appreciate!

Beachtastic · 08/01/2026 18:23

To me, Amanda sounds as though she's from the Midlands.

Stephen and Rachel looked absolutely aghast when Fiona revealed herself as the ST. I don't blame them, she's really annoying. (And who will ever trust a dear old lady with a Welsh accent ever again?!)

Was v sorry for Sam sitting there all glum in his cage. I can't help wondering what happens if someone wants a wee (or worse!). Does the production team take pity on them and give them a 3-minute break? I'd be scared to consume any food or drink before about 6pm.

I thought Rachel was horrid to Ross, and I'm disappointed that the faithfuls lapped us such a pathetic "gotcha."

Agree that Jessie launching herself at Jack as though they'd just won Strictly seemed a bit OTT. Mind you I could imagine myself doing the same thing. I have no idea why, but I sort of quite fancy him! 🫣🫢 I was hoping he would turn out to be the ST so that we'd get to see more of him!!!!!!!!!

I suppose a lot of folk expected Fiona to be the ST, but I'm a bit surprised that the editing gave such heavy hints in previous episodes - it was that that made me think she was too obvious a choice. I'm hoping her pathetic non-attempt to gather skulls will put her in the line of fire at the next round table.

Delphiniumandlupins · 08/01/2026 18:23

Didn't Nettie say on Uncloaked that she didn't instantly remember Ross' name. Although that didn't last long. Or did Ross say that in a "to camera" piece. Either way I think it was great for producers to put in. I think Ross is great and they knew he would cope/quite enjoy having an extra twist

Nara2k · 08/01/2026 18:40

Pinkbox · 08/01/2026 15:15

Am I dreaming or did Amanda put her arm round Reece and guide him into the billiards room? Or was that one of the other interchangeable boys?

She definitely grabbed Faraaz & brought him into the billiards room for a pretty inconsequential (as shown) conversation. Did she do the same thing with one of the interchangeables?

OtherS · 08/01/2026 18:40

I assume they let them out of the cages when the cameras weren't on them... I do wonder if they've checked whether anyone's claustrophobic before doing these sort of trials, I wouldn't have been able to cope. Or maybe they just don't let claustrophobics play.

Maybe the production team were hoping for some extra tension, with a love triangle between Ross, Ellie and Nettie. That would be really unpleasant though, I hope the producers weren't aware.

Not relevant to the thread, but whenever I see @CaveMum posting, I find myself inwardly shouting , ‘Captain Caa-ve Man!’
