Hi

TwooooDoooozenRoses · 12/01/2026 11:00

‘I kept thinking of that old garage song, “can everyone just stop getting shot!” 🤣’
😂

mondaytosunday · 12/01/2026 11:01

Love James Nesbitt but the Paige character really pissed me off.. what a brat to cause so much chaos in her family .. I would have let her rot

Totally agree! Talk about stirring up a hornet's nest 😯 And for what? Because she was interested in switching to read Medicine at uni?!? 😬🤦‍♀️🙄

Meredusoleil · 12/01/2026 12:48

Although the rape obviously was not her fault. And I think that's probably what started the whole chain of events, before Aaron was even on the scene.

TheEverlastingPorridge · 12/01/2026 13:39

When JN got shot yet managed to say to Geraldine James "who are youuuu..." on his way down to the floor 😂

Not sure that would have been the first thought on my mind after being shot and seeing someone being oooffed of the top of a building

itchychin · 12/01/2026 23:17

Hilariously bad! Terrible acting esp JN. It was so bad it was good.

Lots of actors with disabilities have voiced that they want to take on roles that are in no way related to their disability and they don’t want their disability to necessarily form part of the dialogue or plot. Adults should be able to grasp (or Google!) that some people who use a wheelchair can also walk without an explanation being shoe-horned in

I didn’t know this was a thing until reading this thread and was equally confused, so thank you for explaining.

I have just finished watching, and I need to know where is Henry?!!

Copperoliverbear · 12/01/2026 23:20

Watched it all it’s Brilliant.

Lifesyoungdream · 12/01/2026 23:48

Why did the police just accept that Dee Dee and friend had killed Aaron when he had died by a knife and all the other men had been shot.
The policeman also seen to accept that Dee Dee had fallen over the railings to her death.

LadyGAgain · 12/01/2026 23:52

Another over advertised not very good Harlem Coben. Love James nesbitt so no fault in acting. But the story plot starts off well and then (as usual) is weakened. Lots of loop holes and circumstance. Just a bit crap. But I enjoyed it. Weakly! It is January. Perfect for January.

whatawalley · 13/01/2026 02:09

James Nesbitt's acting was appalling. He only had two faces; angry and stressed or occasional happy face. Terrible actor.

I was waiting for a sneaky Richard Armitage cameo not gonna lie!

Watch series 2 of Red eye.

OP I watched the whole thing over 2 days. I enjoyed it but there were some things that just did not add up.

Episode 5 if you don't want to watch the entire thing.

liveforsummer · 13/01/2026 07:30

I’d assume Henry was dead but just not yet found. He was in the pictures the hit couple had and they seemed to do a thorough job!

To those asking how and why Sam sold the guitar. Paige left it there when she stole all his and his housemates valuables so he sold it to try and recoup money as he didn’t want to tell his family. He ended up confiding in his auntie instead.

For the pp that said it wasn’t explained what bad thing happened to hit guy in the foster home - it was, she burned him with the iron as punishment and generally took a dislike to him so he was punished more than the others

Jazzyneen · 13/01/2026 08:40

I thought it was a bit strange in the way the family interacted with each other to protect this damaged girl. Which mother goes a kills a person in such a brutal way? I thought the mother’s character was not genuine, even at the end. Can’t fault James Nesbitt.,I’m watching Absentia now and I think it’s going to be a good one.

Agree with this.

Like everyone I came away thinking what happened to Henry?

Also, how did woman from cult suddenly appear at the balcony when Dee Dee was about to shoot JN?

How did Dee Dee and partner know about the partner of the dodgy adoption woman so that Dee Dee could suddenly pretend to be her and whisk Ruth Jones away? And what happened to the adoption woman, she just disappeared?

I thought the casting of Paige's 2 siblings was good, they looked very like each other. They actually looked a lot more like the aunt than their mum, I'd have swapped that casting round.

I thought the Dee Dee actor was very good, very natural, while playing such a horrific character.

outofofficeagain · 13/01/2026 22:06

SPOILER. BUT. When Minnie Driver woke up from the coma and learnt all about the cult she was in being brought down and the illegal adoption scandal exposed, did it not occur to her that one could be her baby.

or did she just sleep through all that.

ThePoshUns · 13/01/2026 22:14

Jon Pointing who played Ash is 39! I thought he would be early 20s. The actress who played De Dee is 24, I’d have put money on them being the same age

Yes I wondered that about Dee Dee knowing the adoption woman's partner was called Stephanie and what had gone on before 🤔

PersephonePomegranate · 14/01/2026 06:24

I couldnt get past the terrible acting and plot in episode one! Breaking into a crime scene? Paying a visit to some drug dealer boss? Ridiculous. Plus Minnie Driver's shiny plastic and immovable face was a distraction.

I thought it was obvious who killed the scummy bf, although I get bother to go back to it to see whether i was right.

Massive disappointment. I honestly thought this thread would be ripping it to shreds!

YelramBob · 14/01/2026 18:52

Oh dear lord it's so bad but I can't stop watching it 🫣 On episode 7 so haven't read all the comments yet.

I love JN usually but has he forgotten how to act? Why did the lovely Minnie Driver take part in this drivel?

maslinpan · 14/01/2026 22:19

It was pretty ludicrous plot-wise but I am off sick with a cold so I binged it all. What I really want to know is why Paul smashes up Paige's guitar after he's bought it from Sam? Everyone in the student bar is watching and apparently enjoying the whole spectacle. Paul also runs through all the songs that Paige used to play on it, Sam looks very confused as well he might.

the80sweregreat · 14/01/2026 22:25

Minnie driver was given money to not have to do a lot.
I feel that many actors would have taken this part on , it wasn’t too taxing and most of the time she was ill in bed. Easy money.

Turquoisesea · 14/01/2026 22:52

This was so spectacularly bad, it started off ok and I ended up bingeing it but the ending was just so ludicrous. I know you have to suspend reality sometimes but it was like being in a parallel universe. I actually laughed out loud at a couple of scenes.

I’ve watched a couple of HC series before and they’ve always had unbelievable endings. I thought I would give this one a go because I like Ruth Jones and obviously James Nesbitt and Minnie Driver are well known. It just seemed like such a jumble at the end, like they had run out of ideas. Minnie Drivers character brutally murdered Paige’s “boyfriend” who turned out to be her brother and Minnie’s son from the cult. Aaron breaking into rehab and no one noticed to ‘shoot up’ Paige and getting her hooked back on drugs. Minnie drivers character taking James Nesbitts character to a drugs den and crime scene knowing full well she was the murderer. The ridiculous cult storyline that the police allegedly didn’t know about and the very unbelievable police duo. The older lady from the cult turning up just at the right time at the dodgy flats and shoving Dee Dee off a balcony and Ruth Jones getting into a random car while investigating brutal murders and giving up her phone and not telling anyone where she was you going. The random “secret child” storyline from Elena’s late husband and finally wtf happened to Henry!!
