It’s runaway on Netflix. I can’t find a thread! It’s really good!!

OP posts:

I've watched the first 4 episodes and thankfully am managing to keep up, but mainly due to the fact I have read the book already, so know who's who and what should be happening!

I must say though, I'm finding it hard to put Isaac and Ruby together as a couple 🤨

Also don't remember Mother Abiona being in the cult and Cornelius' neighbour being Elizabeth Sobek 🤔 These two characters are in the Myron/Mickey Bolitar books.

Screamingabdabz · 09/01/2026 20:30

I’ve just binged it and loved it. Enjoyed the twisty plot. Partly amused at how bad some of the Americanised dialogue was and hammy acting.

What odd casting though!! James Nesbit and Gavin-and-Stacey-woman were completely miscast and unbelievable. The male detective was a complete ham. And why pay Minnie Driver to be in a coma for most of it? And the grey haired cult Mother - she’s a class actress wasted for 5 mins of screen time. Those kids were annoying - I would’ve let all three run away.

Love the guy who played the hit man - he was amazing in Plebs and Big Boys - wish we could see more of him and not typecast as much.

Soonenough · 09/01/2026 21:04

Minnie Driver looks beautiful in this . Can't imagine her ruthlessly killing Aaron and how did she manage to return to work with no blood and also no remorse.

Henry and his Dad are total red herring . Guess we are meant to think that Henry is still missing or murdered but we didn't get shown . Why not ? Were some bits edited out .?

Got sick of Ruth Jones only wearing the one set of unflattering clothes .

Paige was an annoying brat . Nesbitt should have left her gone . And he needs to stop gritting his teeth to portray emotions . Got quite DH distracted.

Mad that I wasted so much time on it .Can you tell ? 😁

the80sweregreat · 09/01/2026 21:07

It was hammy at times. These things start off ok, then it goes a bit weird and a big ending!

Really? I thought it was refreshing that he wasn’t paired with the stereo typically attractive (read thin) woman? She even makes a joke about him looking at a blonde and he says he’s only interested in the red head (ie her). She was attractive, had a great personality and was intelligent. Whilst he was conventionally attractive he was a bit uptight and quite abrasive at times. I didn’t think it implausible at all.

She had fabulous boobs too

Bobbieiris · 09/01/2026 21:59

I am loving this…utterly ridiculous and enjoyable! @tattime yes! The houses are amazing. There was an episode where he was looking though the bathroom and the drawers were so beautifully organised…the most relaxing thing to watch!
just realised I’m on the last episode!

the80sweregreat · 09/01/2026 22:26

It’s always big houses with beautiful kitchens and ( yes) organized drawers and wardrobes.

Abracadeebra · 04/01/2026 00:26

I didn’t think he was particularly attractive but you’d just never see a guy like him of above average looks with a woman like her IRL as she just came across as undisciplined and having no self-control when it came to how she presented herself.

Wow. What a vile thing to post. This is an actress - a real person - you’re talking about. I saw her as a stand up in Live at the Apollo and she’s very talented.

I think it was a refreshing take in the casting as she actually looked like she could be a police officer. Nice to see something outside of the usual predictable (boring and unrealistic) hot-babe stereotype.

HangryBrickShark · 10/01/2026 07:05

Why does James Nesbitt have so much makeup on though. Looks like a cement mixer has helped apply the foundation?

I was looking at him and thinking he looked ever so slightly odd, but I thought perhaps that's how men with his colouring age. But now I think about it, you're probably right about the make up.

I loved it. It was a bit (a lot) far fetched but that's tellyland for you.

Not vile just honest, the same as another poster put earlier that you need to be fit to be in the Special Forces therefore to cast Ruth Jones in that role was also unbelievable. Who would want someone who can barely move and can’t keep their hands off their co-worker investigating their loved one’s murder? So unprofessional.
I also echo what other posters have queried… what happened to Henry?

Bobbieiris · 10/01/2026 08:24

@Abracadeebra I think she looked good….makeup, clean hair etc. she’s a detective and she’s hardly going to turn up to work looking glamorous! Some men love a larger lady! I know my partner would love it if I put on a little more weight lol

ohlalalalaha · 10/01/2026 11:29

My experience with Harlan Coben so far is that he creates a long, twisty mysterious narrative that gets you hooked and then in the last few chapters/episodes, it’s like he panics and realises he has to finish and so all the characters start stabbing each other. 😂 But of course by that point you’re emotionally invested and have to see it through to the end.

redwinecheeseandothersnacks · 10/01/2026 12:20

I enjoyed the first few episodes but the last two were rushed to tie up the ends. I like James Nesbitt. I really liked Ruth Jones and think all this focus on her size and clothes was unfair. Also the female detective - she actually looked quite fabulous in the bedroom scenes. Seen her in stand-up and Alma's Not Normal.

Ruth Jones was very miscast in this. No way on earth could she have been in special forces that overweight and unfit. If they had used a different actress for her past then we could have believed that she was once fit and had, like a lot of us, gained weight and become more unfit over the years.

WinterFrogs · 10/01/2026 13:03

I love her in anything. I thought she portrayed a lot of depth in her confusion about her late husband. I thought the whole thing was a bit 'Love Actually' in the way it wove stories together. I think she knew they were going to kill her and didn't much care. But then I tend to watch the actors rather than try to make sense of the main thrust of a series like this, which I imagine makes me an outlier.
Yy to whoever said that Geraldine James is a wonderful actress- and I think it's nice to have good people even in small roles. The murderous girl was chilling. Those two had no hope really, death probably a happy release for both. And I'm a bad human but I'm glad the foster care woman got her come uppance. Even if the whole thing was a bit bonkers I ended up binge watching over two days. Ed to tag @mydogisthebest re Ruth Jones

TwooooDoooozenRoses · 10/01/2026 13:29

I’ve just started it last night. Fuck knows why, the HC series are always so full of plot holes and completely unrealistic details and characters, they just fuck me off… yet I watch every time 😂 I’m a bit annoyed already and I’m only an episode in.

This totally. What a complete letdown of an ending. Utter shite that made zero sense.
I think in future (as I’ll get sucked in) I’ll stop 2/3 of the way in and imagine my own ending.

viques · 10/01/2026 19:30

Started off well then it jumped so many sharks I lost it. 😶.Well done Minnie Driver for getting paid to lie in a hospital bed looking gorgeous through. Nice work if you can get it.

redwinecheeseandothersnacks · 10/01/2026 19:44

Amy Gledhill, Ruth Jones...sorry girls just too fat, stay in your lane and certainly no bedroom action. Minnie Driver..gorgeous..well done.

kc431 · 11/01/2026 17:51

I enjoyed this but the Americanisms drive me mad. “Takeout”, “poop”, “pants” instead of trousers - no-one says this in England!! Surely the screenwriters could have done a bit more research to make the dialogue believable.

Also, I can’t believe the mother would rather waltz into a drug den to pretend to look for her daughter, rather than just tell her husband she’s in rehab???

All the shooting in the final was a bit unbelievable too. I kept thinking of that old garage song, “can everyone just stop getting shot!” 🤣

kc431 · 11/01/2026 17:57

Oh, and the fact JN got shot in the chest and was fine and out of hospital in 2 days. Meanwhile his wife got shot in the shoulder but was in a coma for weeks?

DJSteves · 11/01/2026 17:57

It’s shite. I gave up after three episodes

Jazzyneen · 12/01/2026 09:58

Love James Nesbitt but the Paige character really pissed me off.. what a brat to cause so much chaos in her family .. I would have let her rot
