It’s runaway on Netflix. I can’t find a thread! It’s really good!!

The two detectives had an overly goady approach!

tattime · 03/01/2026 21:22

I agree RE Henry. I thought he was in the drug den.

also the guitar smashing was so bloody weird. Like everyone was in on it at the bar. WTF

redshoes2017 · 03/01/2026 21:24

Binge watched it yesterday and today . Absolutely loved it , lots of twists and turns . I personally really enjoyed it .

the80sweregreat · 03/01/2026 21:31

I am enjoying it mostly because I like Ruth jones and James Nesbitt. I also like the army man, but I fear he may get killed ( not seen it all , only episode 6 so far)
The locations look nice too.

I’ve finished it. I got a bit bored and lost in the middle but the twist at the end was good.

I think the HB adaptations always seem a bit unrealistic as they are based on books set in the USA but changed to the UK for Netflix. So some things have to be changed to reflect this. I haven’t read this particular book but I know there were a few changes to the last one which was based on a book written a few decades ago in New York.

I didn’t know they’re American. I read loads of the books when I was pregnant but don’t remember anything about them now except they were gripping but for some reason in my head I thought it was set in the uk .
Just about to start episode 3, enjoying it so far

I thoroughly enjoyed binging this as I’ve been recovering from flu and too knackered to do anything else. Did they actually mention what happened to Henry and what happened to the original dad who hired Elena? Is he still thinking where the heck is Henry? I too thought he might have been the “to whom” person but it would have been nice to have some closure. Unless I’ve missed he was one of the confirmed killed.

Really? I thought it was refreshing that he wasn’t paired with the stereo typically attractive (read thin) woman? She even makes a joke about him looking at a blonde and he says he’s only interested in the red head (ie her). She was attractive, had a great personality and was intelligent. Whilst he was conventionally attractive he was a bit uptight and quite abrasive at times. I didn’t think it implausible at all.

I didn’t think he was particularly attractive but you’d just never see a guy like him of above average looks with a woman like her IRL as she just came across as undisciplined and having no self-control when it came to how she presented herself.

TheDogParade · 04/01/2026 00:41

I’ve finished it today. It started well, I got a bit bored by episode 5 but it all came together in the last episode.

Their house was gorgeous inside and out.

Badslipperluck · 04/01/2026 00:53

Just finished the series... Enjoyable silliness in suspended reality.

However, has anyone else noticed the similarities between this show and the running grave book by Robert Galbraith (aka jk Rowling)? I believe the Harlan coben book, which this is based on came first but had anyone read it and did it contain things like the box and iirc two main sons? Sounds tenuous I know but I got the impression the screenwriters had read the running grave and used that to set the cult farm scenes. Or maybe jk just ripped off Harlan? Are both books based on the same real life cult??

the80sweregreat · 04/01/2026 07:13

I kept thinking of the running grave too!
Or did JK Rowling just steal a few ideas from the Harlan Coban book? I don’t read his fiction though.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 04/01/2026 07:21

We started watching it 2 nights ago. We’ve just got the last one to watch.

DrinkingIssues · 04/01/2026 07:23

Yes we binged it on a duvet day. Was ok, prefer his books!

ohlalalalaha · 04/01/2026 08:13

I binge watched it but as others said, you do have to suspend reality while watching it. I too was confused by the daughter’s on and off wheelchair use (thinking it was a continuity mistake) but then I looked it up and discovered some interesting things about ambulatory wheelchair users.

I also tend to get stuck on really minor details and in the early scenes where Elena got shot in the bum, I couldn’t work out why she was in hospital with a bandage on and a hole cut out of her leggings. Why not just wear a gown? 😝 Also, somewhat unlikely that a person who is relatively unfit would be part of an elite tactical firearms police team! But anyway, once I stopped fixating on silly things, it was vaguely enjoyable!

Indigovelvet · 04/01/2026 08:25

It was quite quirky and entertaining for 8 episodes. The young killing duo were chilling - particularly the smiling dee dee!

Daffydaffodil25 · 04/01/2026 09:47

I enjoyed it. I find you have to forgo reality in most dramas. There were plenty of twists and turns throughout. Perfect viewing for cosy winter afternoons.

ClovisWrites · 04/01/2026 09:48

No, but I will because someone I work with is in it. :-)

the80sweregreat · 04/01/2026 10:10

Are the Harlen Coban books good?
I like crime fiction but I’ve never tried any of his ones and I did notice it’s written by Charlotte Coban , is she his daughter or wife ?
I should try one really.

HipHopDontYouStop · 01/01/2026 19:29

I think they are all so very bad.

A couple were good but this one is dire and we gave up after 20 mins, same with the last one too.

the80sweregreat · 04/01/2026 10:14

I’ve spelt the authors name wrong! Sorry

Yes. His books are good imho. I have read a good majority of them!

H202too · 04/01/2026 16:21

I do find HC really engaging. I look forward to them and enjoy trying to solve the mystery.
However I am a bit sick as pp posters have said with the unlikely assassins (killing eve style). Like the series where they danced about before they killed people. Was this Barbie and Ken that a pp poster said? My memory fails. But it isn't kill Bill. The main story line is enough.

Apparently there will be a new one actually set in America. Netflix also have the rights for the Myron Bolitar books.

tentonnetruck · 04/01/2026 17:52

Did they find Henry or was he murdered?

Mumsknot · 04/01/2026 18:07

I kept drifting off but did we find out why/how she met Aaron at university?

SingaporeSlinky · 04/01/2026 18:10

Didn’t they meet through the dna website as a match?

WinterFrogs · 04/01/2026 18:19

I have watched it over the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it 😊
