Will Young to win Pop Idol
Mike not being the rapist in Brookside, when they found his shirt button in the club I felt physically sick.

Titan sub disappearance with pieces being found after days

KnickerlessParsons · 15/11/2025 09:49

The twin towers thing. I find it fascinating (not in a good way) how a plane can go into a building and not come out the otherside.

ItsmeMargo · 15/11/2025 09:52

The first series of Big Brother, the Nasty Nick revelations. Seems daft thinking about it now, but my goodness, I was hooked!!

DarkEyedSailor · 15/11/2025 09:53

Who killed Archie on EastEnders.

MrsLizzieDarcy · 15/11/2025 09:57

I don't think I'll ever forget 9/11, we were sitting in a friend's garden in glorious sunshine, the kids were playing and one of her friends arrived (policeman) who said aren't you watching the news.... they were showing the footage of the 2nd plane hitting by then and we were glued to the TV all night when we got home. Years later, we went to NYC and to the memorial - it made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck, seeing it in reality.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 15/11/2025 09:59

Inspector Morse - the driving instructor. That was a proper 'water cooler' moment (but probably before most Mumsnetters were even born).

ShadesmarBead · 15/11/2025 10:01

The moment in the first season of Lost where the smoke monster grabs the pilot out of the bit of the plane stuck in the tree. That was it for me. Completely hooked for the entire show.

Who killed Laura Palmer on Twin Peaks. A friend and I used to watch it twice in the week and then chat about it when we got to college. Devastated to find out who it was, but wanted Agent Cooper to be with me when I died. He was so lovely and kind.

"Damn fine cup of coffee, and a piece of cherry pie".

When Barbara died in Call the Midwife

When Smithy left his wedding to stop stop Nessa going to sea.

The volcanic ash cloud over Iceland. My toxic boss was stuck in India and we had two blissful weeks without her micro managing pish. I was hoping they’d be grounded for another month.

breezyyy · 15/11/2025 12:22

The early days of big brother. I loved those shows and got so invested.

bookworm14 · 15/11/2025 12:24

Tim and Dawn finally getting together in the Office Christmas special.

In terms of real life events, watching the 2010 Chilean mine rescue live was incredibly gripping and moving.

ShesTheAlbatross · 15/11/2025 12:25

I appreciate it was on tv, but I find it quite bizarre to describe a terrorist attack as a “tv moment”.

Literally came to say Will Young and Pop Idol.
Also, when Brian won Big Brother

Who killed Archie on EastEnders.

Oh goodness, for me it was when Bradley died in Eastenders - it was just so unfair!

Latenightreader · 15/11/2025 12:38

The West Wing, particularly the end of the first season "Who's been hit? Who's been hit?" Fade to black... Had to wait almost a year for the resolution of that!

EverardDeTroyes · 15/11/2025 12:41

Who shot JR in Dallas was the first time I remember a TV drama gripping the nation and making new headlines.

LeoTheLion678 · 15/11/2025 12:43

I waited months for Danielle to tell Ronnie she was her daughter then she finally did, I literally cheered and she fucking died on us. I was pissed off for weeks.

My eldest was just a week old, it came on as breaking news . Absolutely terrifying. The museum is one of the most haunting places I've ever been .the way everyone moves in silence

PurpleEmerald · 15/11/2025 12:46

A bit cliche but Friends when Ross said Rachel’s name at the alter and then “did she get off the plane?” 😂

twilightermummy · 15/11/2025 12:48

During COVID I was obsessed with the daily updates with the scientists and a top cabinet member.

I was obsessed with Sturgeons updates on Tuesday afternoons. Scotland had different regulations and I was surrounded by arseholes who were wilfully misinterpreting the rules, not so that they were flouting them, more that they were trying to say you couldn’t do stuff that you actually could. I’d sit there with a notepad and write it all down. Strange days.

EnchantingDecoration · 15/11/2025 13:05

I remember the whole nation being gripped by who shot JR. Den and Angie on Christmas Day. Mark Greene's death on ER. Also yes to Will Young on Pop Idol, I remember being on a train trying to find out on an old brick phone that had rudimentary internet access.

Lots of Corrie and Brookside moments. The body under the patio on Brookside. Sheila's rape storyline. Jimmy Corkhill descending into drug addiction. The death of Alan Bradley. The ongoing feud between Mile Baldwin and Ken Barlow. The trial of Deirdre.

Coronation Street was truly brilliant back in the day. I want to go back and watch it all again now.

edit, in fact all soaps were.

MamaBobo · 15/11/2025 13:25

Definitely Dawn and Tim in The Office @bookworm14, when she walked back into the Christmas Night Out I was in bits. The last Gavin and Stacey was a similar moment.

That was a very scary episode of Morse @Vroomfondleswaistcoat , when you saw the gloved hand opening the glove compartment and the tape and the knife were in there….shudder.
