Will Young to win Pop Idol
Mike not being the rapist in Brookside, when they found his shirt button in the club I felt physically sick.

OP posts:

They were, then they all spoiled themselves by going to 5 days a week, huge casts and either filler or increasingly implausible plotlines. I haven’t watched any of them for about 10 years now.

EnchantingDecoration · 15/11/2025 13:27

I never watched Morse (too busy trying to keep up with the soaps in that era I suspect).

Iocanepowder · 15/11/2025 13:28

I remember enjoying ‘Time on our Hands’ in Only Fools when it first aired. The fainting and the coffee gravy mix up were really funny to 8 year old me.

Umy15r03lcha1 · 15/11/2025 13:33

Nothing much for years, then sleb traitors.

I remember the whole nation being gripped by who shot JR. Den and Angie on Christmas Day. Mark Greene's death on ER. Also yes to Will Young on Pop Idol, I remember being on a train trying to find out on an old brick phone that had rudimentary internet access.

Lots of Corrie and Brookside moments. The body under the patio on Brookside. Sheila's rape storyline. Jimmy Corkhill descending into drug addiction. The death of Alan Bradley. The ongoing feud between Mile Baldwin and Ken Barlow. The trial of Deirdre.

Yes Mark Greene's death was so sad.

Also when the whole family died in Family Affairs, that scene in the church showing all the coffins was incredibly shocking!

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 15/11/2025 13:41

Showing my age, but when Mulder and Sully in The X Files finally kissed!

I used to love Family Affairs but must have stopped watching at some point because don’t remember this! I’ve looked everywhere to find reruns but there’s nothing.

Series 4 of Upstairs Downstairs which I first watched on DVD about twenty years ago. The WW1 episodes specifically.Extraordinary television and there are certain scenes that have stayed with me, particularly the shell shock one and the “ambulance train” one.

The rape storyline in Cagney & Lacey (did she “ask for it” by wearing certain clothes or drinking alcohol uggggh). It’s on Prime and I recently watched it again, feeling just as horrified as I did when I saw it back in the 1980s.

The Gavin & Stacey Christmas special 2024. Perfect television.

And a shout-out to the makers of things like Strictly Come Dancing and Call the Midwife who worked so hard to bring programmes to us during covid despite all the hurdles.

CrossPurposes · 15/11/2025 14:05

The end of episode 4:of the first series of Happy Valley. I watched it standing up I was so nervous.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 15/11/2025 14:05

Revealing the identity of H on Line of Duty. I remember sitting on the edge of the sofa and not breathing as the camera followed the police pack guarding him into the AC12 building .

ItsmeMargo · 15/11/2025 09:52

The first series of Big Brother, the Nasty Nick revelations. Seems daft thinking about it now, but my goodness, I was hooked!!

That was wild at the time. Crazy to think that it even made it onto News at Ten with a rather bewildered Trevor McDonald.

@Idontknowhatnametochoose aww, you were a shipper! I remember it too but I didn't want them to get together because I thought it might ruin the chemistry. I was wrong.

Showing my age, but when Mulder and Sully in The X Files finally kissed!

Yeeees! The slowest of slow burns, when they were so obviously in love from the start. We’re rewatching with the kids and on season 6 so getting close; even my 15 yo boy who usually couldn’t care less for feelings and romance is getting impatient!

MrsFrumble · 15/11/2025 14:24

And also YES to Lost. They sure knew how to do a cliffhanger.

Yessss. And then being so disappointed with who it turned out to be!

Bagamama · 15/11/2025 14:27

Mr Trebus.
Girls aloud era x-factor.

Forthismoment · 15/11/2025 14:29

Nothing comes close to 9/11 for me. My husband was in the air flying from Oregon to Washington DC. Almost 24 hours before he could make contact. It was was the worst day of my life.

Thesummer · 15/11/2025 14:29

Also, Who Shot Phil Mitchell.
Def agree with Pop Idol Will Young.

Not quite on topic but one TV moment I could watch over and over again (and do) is 'David's dead' from CBB. Comedy gold.

charliehungerford · 15/11/2025 14:32

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 15/11/2025 09:59

Inspector Morse - the driving instructor. That was a proper 'water cooler' moment (but probably before most Mumsnetters were even born).

Yes, I remember that episode as well, such a good series. I also a remember the final episode called The Remorseful Day, in which Morse dies, and Lewis, his Sargent, kisses him on the forehead in the mortuary and simply says “goodnight Sir”, so well acted and heartbreaking.

gianfrancogorgonzola · 15/11/2025 14:43

When Bobbie and her husband - whose name I now can’t even remember - broke up in Home and Away! They were in a wood and kind of turned away from each other walking off in opposite directions before the closing credits, I actually went to my bedroom and cried! I was about 9. I didn’t even know that could happen for grown ups.

I'd forgotten until I heard about it recently that UEFA delayed the start of a football match so everyone could learn who the culprit was! That would never happen now, everyone would just get a news alert on their phones!

Also Trevor Jordache being found under the patio was massive. IIRC the story has built for months until he was dug up again. I was willing Beth and Mandy to get away with it.

Yep a shipper! It was perfectly written and acted, couldn't have been better how it was done.

scandinavianyellow · 15/11/2025 14:58

Yes def will young pop idol I was ridiculously happy!

Pollyanna87 · 15/11/2025 14:58

The episode of Squid Game series one with the marbles.

strictlynopolitics · 15/11/2025 15:01

Very old one, Mike and Deirdre's affair in Corrie
Then Chandler and Monica in Friends
Then, surprisingly, final of Celebrity Traitors.

HelloHelloHelloHowLow · 15/11/2025 15:02

Relate to a lot of these but also the wedding of Scott and Charlene on Neighbours when I was about 9 or 10!
