Forget about the fireworks, stay in as new series of Shetland starts next week!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002lt9z

I think those of us who have stuck with Shetland through thick and thin, just about filled up the last thread which is here https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/telly_addicts/4931718-shetland-season-8?page=40

Given how bad many 9pm slots have been recently this series may even be a pleasant surprise.

BBC One - Shetland, Series 10, Episode 1

The body of an elderly woman is found in the remote village of Lunniswick.

Oh, thank you!

I love Shetland.

I have stuck with it, and I enjoyed the last one.

IwantToRetire · 27/10/2025 21:35

One day I am hoping one of the Shetland superfans is going to draw a linked faminly tree (and relationships?) starting with series 1.

They fallouts and secrets of these families are often the lynch pin of a plot.

Anyone?!

Oh goody! I went to Shetland on holiday this year so now I have a much better idea of Lerwick and how the islands relate to each other. Obviously the Jimmy Perez house isn’t so relevant now, but it was good to see the loddenberries nonetheless. And the building that serves as the exterior for the police station too. The woman who ran our B and B said she always has crew staying during shoots (I imagine the same is true of most accommodation in town).

NorWouldTilly · 27/10/2025 22:15

Totally here for it!

musicalfrog · 28/10/2025 18:47

Lush!

Is this a tv pace thread please? I don't want to come across any spoilers if I can help it.

I'm fairly certain it is week by week.

The last series the BBC didn't add to iPlayer until theye had been shown.

And AI assured me this would be true this time!

Thank you for this @IwantToRetire
I love Shetland but miss the gorgeous Perez.
I’d like to visit Shetland, was it a great holiday @LadyGreySpillsTheTea?
Is it a boat ride or a plane ride to get there ?

NorWouldTilly · 05/11/2025 18:05

It’s today!

🎉

IwantToRetire · 05/11/2025 18:08

I'd forgotten. Something to look forward to.

In the absence of Shetland I watched the Are Murders on Netflix - it's set in northern Sweden and has a similar vibe to Shetland.

ShanghaiDiva · 05/11/2025 18:42

Love Shetland. We were in Lerwick over the summer and had to find the police station and Perez’s house!

SauvignonBlanche · 05/11/2025 18:56

Looking forward to this.

Candypatthongworn · 05/11/2025 19:02

Not the same since Ashley Jensen joined the cast . Just don’t think she’s a particularly great actress . Not sure why the other younger dark haired actress who plays Tosh didnt get promoted into the role .
Dont think I’ll bother this season

JewelleryCat · 05/11/2025 19:13

Not sure if people know but Jimmy Perez is back in a new book, this time in Orkney. Maybe the BBC would make it into a tv series and we’d have Jimmy in Orkney. It’s called The Killing Stones

I hope this season of Shetland is good. Roll on 9pm

IwantToRetire · 05/11/2025 19:15

So glad Perez is gone.

About as lifeless and interesting as a lump of lard!

More worried that cake fridges seem to have lost being part of the plots.

Total disgrace!

I watched a series on bbc2 where a couple went cold water swimming in various places around Scotland and the last episode they were on Shetland & swam outside of Perez's old house!

Recording this new series & will watch later.

That series sounds interesting @mambojambodothetango Ill have to look it up.

onceuponatimeinneverland · 05/11/2025 22:44

I'm calling the podcaster / historian bloke as the murderer.

The woman in the holiday cottage was a child under the social worker who died. And came to the area to talk to her about her past.

The son is a badun. Although it just looks like he's flirting.

The storm all those years ago will be at the bottom of it

The dead woman will have had a terminal illness which is why she was tidying up her affairs.

Why Ellie haddingtons character set fire to the chair/ house I've no clue!

Next body will be the informer from the start.

Im being strong and will not binge!!!!

mum2jakie · 05/11/2025 22:47

Didn't realise the new series was out so soon - thanks!

I just flicked on the tv at that moment, and was saying ‘Oh, Perez’s house!’ while the presenters were trying to have a serious conversation about mental health.

I wasn’t at home tonight, but will catch up tomorrow. I realised that I watch Shetland for the landscapes, and that my abiding liking for it has survived the departure of Perez and his pea coat.

JewelleryCat · 05/11/2025 23:09

@onceuponatimeinneverland I’m wondering if the lady who set fire to the house and Eadie had some sort of pact where if something happened to one, the other would sort it but I’m not sure why she’d set fire to the house but the police officer in the van should have been way more observant

If the terminal illness theory is right, could Eadie have got someone to help her? Mind you, if she did, it’s a brutal way to go. All out in the open like that

Yes, that makes sense. But it's all a bit low-wattage, isn't it?

I think she was murdered because of what she was going to say, or what she knew about something. But she was going to die anyway .

Pact. I dunno . Seems daft to make a pact with someone who has dementia - unless it was from way before.

And why doesn't anyone lock a door?

JewelleryCat · 06/11/2025 08:48

I think in small communities like that where everyone knows each other (apart from the holiday cottage), you don’t lock the door. I prefer my door locked whether I knew the people or not

I agree it does seem daft to make a pact with someone who has dementia but maybe she remembers the pact or her dementia isn’t as bad as her family think
