Forget about the fireworks, stay in as new series of Shetland starts next week!

I think those of us who have stuck with Shetland through thick and thin, just about filled up the last thread which is here https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/telly_addicts/4931718-shetland-season-8?page=40

Given how bad many 9pm slots have been recently this series may even be a pleasant surprise.

BBC One - Shetland, Series 10, Episode 1

The body of an elderly woman is found in the remote village of Lunniswick.

They've found him a big old fleece so he doesn't have to squeeze into the tight police t-shirt!

It was incredibly tight and rather nastily cut!

Pinkbox · 08/11/2025 00:21

Ah Molly from Sherlock - that was bugging me the whole way through!
I also mistook the bus shelter for a cake fridge. Hopes dashed.
At least we had some recent Duncan courtesy of the Traitors. I like Ashley Jensen though. Tosh I’ve always struggled with, not sure why. The two of them as a team are growing on me.
The historian chap was suspicious from the get go but presumably he’s one of the many red herrings thrown into that first episode. I assumed it was a grudge killing to do with her social work past.
Presumably Blondie and BarMan will have a brief thing but it won’t last.

There is a reason why Eadie's £400 k had not been touched in years.

Is there a will?

The countryside folks don't lock their houses in case anybody may need shelter. Old times survival and support.

My conspiracy theory is that it is to do with the storm and boat sinking disaster - blackmailing someone? "private" compensation? Holding the money for someone who died?

We have a lot of people acting really oddly - but usually the murderer is someone who flies under the radar in the early episodes - the poet perhaps? Or bandana woman?

Pinkbox · 08/11/2025 00:48

Bandana woman looks shifty. But then there’s holiday cottage woman too…

Wasn't a previous series about a feud between two families and a lost boat?

Garamousalata · 08/11/2025 23:42

I miss Perez and his sweaters.

I think that holiday cottage woman is too obvious, too early -although there will undoubtedly be some story with her

It's like last year when we spent devoted hours to discussing obvious candidates - the husband, shifty fish guy, the Danes and spy guy ....

The killer is usually someone who flies under the radar in the early episodes

I miss the cake fridges!

... and Duncan's get rich quick schemes

deeahgwitch · 09/11/2025 00:40

I felt sorry for the holiday cottage child. She’s just arrived on holiday and a woman has been murdered in the house very nearby.
At that age, I would have been scared sh*tless.
The parents could have been more discreet.

Clawdy · 09/11/2025 08:21

Tosh had a baby, didn't she? No mention of her family in that episode.

deeahgwitch · 09/11/2025 08:48

Tosh mentioned seeing her little one if she could clock off after the raid on the boat but then the call came in about the murder so her plan had to change @Clawdy

Clawdy · 09/11/2025 16:50

Ah, missed that bit, thanks.

Billy with a storyline! Thought was a good opener

Pl242 · 09/11/2025 23:38

Billy in the wild was disturbing!

HollerWithTheRinsinSound · 10/11/2025 08:34

Billy should not be allowed to wear civilian clothes and have a personal life.

I thought the posing of the body to look over the water might be significant- was that where the boat went down in the storm?

xSideshowAuntSallyXx · 10/11/2025 09:11

I still miss Jimmy and Duncan, it just isn't the same.

Every so often they tease us and show you a glimpse of Jimmy's house by the sea, and I just want to see Jimmy's stood on the beach in one of his sweaters staring moodily out at the water with Duncan stood in the shadows looking shifty. 😢

I also want to see the cake fridge again.

I'm a tad worried that Billy might be involved or have some knowledge about the murder. I'm just a bit suspicious as to why he's been allowed out of the station in this storyline. Hope I'm wrong though.

or possible Mrs Billy - Morag?

dephlogisticated · 10/11/2025 19:04

Did someone watch something in the video interview online? That's my working theory, but then I'm always wrong!

Yes, I thought it provoked someone.

Great idea from the holiday couple - drive off to meet a drug dealer, leave daughter asleep alone in cottage in a small village that’s just had a murder and an arson attack. What could possibly go wrong?

daffodilandtulip · 12/11/2025 22:41

This couple don't make sense. How are they going to fit into the storyline?

The obvious next move by a father we have been carefully shown to be loving and attentive and taking care that his small child is watched at all times.

Bonjamin · 12/11/2025 23:33

Because it’s not as if some drug dealers might be monitoring your house in case of attempted fleeing, then spot you’d left your child home alone, and see an opportunity for some handy hostage taking.

Ilovetea33 · 13/11/2025 02:02

I'm sorely tempted to give up - their hapless duo is getting on my nerves, Ruth's outfit is boring and I really don't care that much about the murder.
