Riot Women binge thread for those using BBC iPlayer

As all episodes are available on iPlayer thought I would start a binge thread for any like me who find it easier to follow a story line when there isn't a gap of 7 days.

Riot Women

No apologies - just noise. Five fierce women crank up the volume to get their voices heard. Sally Wainwright's riotous drama with Joanna Scanlan, Tamsin Greig and Rosalie Craig.

yes but ... what about Kitty's rights. If they are ignored because of him that would wreck the relationship.

Good point. I hope it works out in the next series but I couldn't help feeling frustrated by the way it ended - a cliffhanger I guess - wondering what next.

Definitely an ending saying to the BBC we dare you not to give us a second series!

And with all those luvvies turning up, begging to be included (and even waiving their fee?) the BBC must think it has hit the jackpot.

watched it all in one sitting and loved it it was hard going in parts but definitely neeeeeeed series two come on BBC lets be having you on series two loved the songs

everyoldsock · 21/10/2025 10:48

I wonder when we'll hear about a second series. Most other SW shows have had more than one series. I know the rating numbers so far have been decent.

the80sweregreat · 21/10/2025 14:26

I loved ‘Tango ‘ and this has a few similar (ish ) themes.
Sally wainwright , Mike bullen , Kay Mellor and Jimmy McGovern are all my favorite writers.

Finished watching the last two episodes today. Very hard hitting. Couldn't help but binge it.
Wondered if a second series is being lined up with the dad recalling the names.
Did not like the man child Tom.
As pp said, I'm sure Mumsnet has been mined for themes. At one point Jess says,"What fresh hell is this?" !!!

The fresh hell quote is from Shakespeare originally

I thought that was Dorothy Parker.

I thought that was Dorothy Parker.

Yes, definitely from her.

Yes, definitely from her.

I stand corrected.

FrenchandSaunders · 24/10/2025 12:05

Binged it in two days and loved it.
Looking forward to series 2.
All the kids though ... they were all so horrible 🙁

the80sweregreat · 24/10/2025 12:12

At least Tom did the right thing eventually.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 24/10/2025 22:27

Pretty much all the men were awful, I know it’s a series showing how much shit women have to put up with but surely there’s the odd nice bloke out there?!

the80sweregreat · 25/10/2025 03:19

Gerry was the token ‘ ok’ man , but the rest were awful.

Brenda34 · 25/10/2025 13:52

Good in parts.
The trans person certainly couldn't act and was a pointless, box ticking inclusion but at least they weren't an over sexualised flouncy thing.
The best thing about it was the closing few seconds where Kitty's father asked what she was going to do to them and she said she hadn't decided yet. The title song came in and the lyrics made perfect sense.
I hoped that moment would put the wind up men who've taken a no for a yes and carried on regardless. They know who they are.

Thistooshallpass. · 25/10/2025 17:59

I really enjoyed it - yes there were cliches and coincidences.. but there was also some really good acting and some heartfelt moments that made me cry . Kitty’s skin was amazing for someone who had sixth a rough life - glowing with very few lines !
So Hollys ex husband the policeman may be one of the rapists ??!

the80sweregreat · 25/10/2025 19:18

I hope that Holly’s ex isn’t the under cover cop , but Kitty’s dad said he had two names.

the80sweregreat · 25/10/2025 19:25

Holly’s ex is called Tony and Kitty’s dad didn’t say Tony, but I can’t be sure really.

isitmyturn · 25/10/2025 21:40

I've just finished it over the last couple of weeks ( that's me bingeing ).
Loved it.
Would have liked more music but what they did was great for none musicians. Loved Kitty's voice and her cover of Violet.
A depressing parade of vile men.
Nisha's insistence on keeping quiet is what men like that rely on. Sadly she's right but hopefully we will see his downfall.
I hope Holly's ex isn't the undercover because that would be grim for her.
I didn't really like chaotic pub woman or her family apart from Ines

CoconutGrove · 26/10/2025 08:24

The scene with Nisha and the nasty police man was horrific. I was really hoping he'd get his comeuppance by the end of the series.

I hope he does too. I'm hoping that in Series 2 Nisha uses the file Holly gave her.

the80sweregreat · 26/10/2025 10:48

I want the horrible policeman sacked and possibly tortured by Kitty and Holly. Nisha can’t really do it because she’d lose her job. He needs something to happen to him. Or ( possibly) nothing will, because this is more realistic and people like him are rarely taken down :(

Not tortured, Holly is better than that.
But I very very much want him to get his come uppance.
I hope she gives it to him in series 2 and doesn’t make us wait through multiple series!

the80sweregreat · 26/10/2025 12:56

No, but I do wish bad things on that policeman :(
A more subtle revenge would be good.

HelenHywater · 26/10/2025 13:15

I really enjoyed it! I was slightly irritated that Kitty got all the storyline, because the other characters were very interesting too. Thought the scene where Tamsin Greig was dating was hilarious. Kitty's voice was fabulous though and I liked her grungy style. (and would love her hair!).

And to the pp who says that it's unrealistic that they're all dealing with so much at once - I thought that was realistic. Most of us are dealing with menopause, divorce, dating, elderly parents, wayward children and feeling invisible. They just needed a cancer storyline and we'd have had the lot.

I liked that all the men were just awful - the best of them was just dull, but the rest were just awful. I hated Holly's sons when she asked them about what they thought of her performance.

isitmyturn · 26/10/2025 15:04

I agree. perhaps the posters who said that were younger or lucky.
Most women I know in their late 50s have menopause / teenagers/ elderly parents. Chaos.
