The Guest, the upcoming BBC thriller starring Eve Myles, has unveiled a devilish new trailer.

The four-part series (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a65286088/the-guest-first-look-bbc/) sees the Broadchurch (https://www.digitalspy.com/broadchurch/)and Torchwood (https://www.digitalspy.com/torchwood/) star portray Fran, a business owner who is thrust into a "toxic and beguiling" relationship with one of her employees, Ria (Gabrielle Creevy).

The Guest is a hugely entertaining, deftly plotted thriller that will have viewers gripped," said Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, while Nick Andrews, Head of Commissioning for BBC Cymru Wales, dubbed it a "a twisty-turny edge of your seat thriller".

"Ria has never had the time or opportunity to think about what she might actually want from the world," reads the logline.

"So, when she starts cleaning for Fran, she’s intoxicated by this confident and self-assured woman who encourages her to take control of her life.

When Ria flourishes, an intense friendship is forged. However, when Fran’s advice leads to a shocking event, the lives of these two very different women become intertwined by shared secrets and dangerous plots."

However, when Fran's advice leads to a shocking event, the lives of these two very different women become intertwined by shared secrets and dangerous plots.

What follows is a compelling and manipulative game of cat and mouse. But just who is playing who?"

Good ending, even if they dragged out that conversation between Fran and Ria a tad. Convenient that Richard got a phone call just at the right time and had no issue spending ages chatting with his wife while in the middle of mixing up poison!

Also, did the police just stop looking for Ria? Even though she was suspected of killing not one but two men?

Overall I liked it. 4 episodes meant that the pace was brisk and you didn't get bored. Too many series stretch things out over too many episodes these days.

Brilliant series! Loved it. Could they make a follow up ? Eve Myles is so pretty.

kerstina · 23/09/2025 08:15

Stunning shots of beautiful Rhossili, Worms Head and driving over the Gower in episode 2 - that's my home town ❤

How blessed are you! Such a stunning place. Aiming to visit soon as it’s on my bucket list.

Yes one minute she was running. Police behind her. Drone in the sky with birds eye

then she escapes

This and Coldwater was too much last night! I'll catch up with this tonight (this is the last one, isn't it? Coldwater still has a couple of eps to go, I think).

Loved the suits Eve was wearing.

Loved the suits Eve was wearing.

Yes - I was sad when she got blood all over the trouser suit!

The police also did well to get the full squad out, complete with drones and breaking down the door to her poor friend's house, within what seemed like an hour or two! And then nada!

Reminds me a bit of the melodramatic dawn raid opening scene in Adolescence.

I thought that at the end of Ep 2 she’s in the guest house next to the big house, where the curtain twitcher was spotted in Ep 1.

She is. When she arrived at Fran's house for the first time, Fran pointed to the guest house and told Ria nobody lived there. At that moment someone was twitching behind the guest house curtains, which Ria noted and obviously thought strange. At this stage it really looked as if the mysterious guest house dweller would be integral to the plot. Also, in a later episode Ria was in the bath in the guest house and she hears footsteps and sees a shadow under the door, then the handle is turned. She mentioned it to Fran who said it was probably Derek the gardener. So who was in the guest house on both these occasions? There was nothing explored in the plot about either of it, unless I'm being thick!

Yes, I thought the mysterious person in the house was 'the guest' of the title! But that seemed to have been dropped. As did the fact that two men were killed in the same house within a few weeks, and the prime suspect in both cases was allowed to walk freely around Cardiff, and is about to get rich from illicit drug money.

fretaway · 23/09/2025 13:55

Managed to the end but gosh, the plot was as holey as Swiss cheese. So many story threads just dropped.

There were a lot of head injuries going on!

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/09/2025 14:04

Yes who was the curtain twitcher

Exactly what I thought. I thought that curtain twitcher in the first episode was probably the guest in the title, and that he/she would be integral to the plot. Maybe I missed something?

Thank you! I thought "the guest" would be the mysterious curtain twitcher too. Why did they include that scene in the first place I wonder if it had no relevance. Also very much agree with your second point.

Yes. You've got a series called 'The Guest', a mysterious locked room, and indications that there is some unknown person floating around the house.

But that's all dropped?

So Anna was just a drug mule? Big deal! And we all guessed it several episodes ago!

And an inefficient one at that - smashing the mirror frame and scooping what's left of the drug powder out with her bare hands!

Yeah, they had what looked like the entire Cardiff police force out looking for Ria within 5 minutes of her doing a runner, yet a week later she's flitting around town like nothing happened?

Was Fran going to kill Richard too?

Yes, I reckon Fran was definitely poised to kill Richard. She'd sort of reached the point of no return on every level.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/09/2025 17:55

Be good if a s2

where is Fran now

did Richard say that Fran killed simon

or how else did the police know it was ria

I really don't think there should be another series. I thought this was good because it was short and didn't stretch out the storyline further than it needed, even if some plot lines seemed to be dropped for no reason. The characters and plot aren't interesting enough to warrant another series imo. Besides, what would be the premise?

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/09/2025 18:26

I still want to know the curtain Twitcher

tho agree not worth another 4hrs worth

worrisomeasset · 23/09/2025 18:30

I think we all assumed that Ria’s filming of Fran having adulterous sex in Ep 1 would have a key role to play later. It turned out instead to be the anti-Chekhov’s revolver.
