The Guest, the upcoming BBC thriller starring Eve Myles, has unveiled a devilish new trailer.

The four-part series (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a65286088/the-guest-first-look-bbc/) sees the Broadchurch (https://www.digitalspy.com/broadchurch/)and Torchwood (https://www.digitalspy.com/torchwood/) star portray Fran, a business owner who is thrust into a "toxic and beguiling" relationship with one of her employees, Ria (Gabrielle Creevy).

The Guest is a hugely entertaining, deftly plotted thriller that will have viewers gripped," said Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, while Nick Andrews, Head of Commissioning for BBC Cymru Wales, dubbed it a "a twisty-turny edge of your seat thriller".

"Ria has never had the time or opportunity to think about what she might actually want from the world," reads the logline.

"So, when she starts cleaning for Fran, she’s intoxicated by this confident and self-assured woman who encourages her to take control of her life.

When Ria flourishes, an intense friendship is forged. However, when Fran’s advice leads to a shocking event, the lives of these two very different women become intertwined by shared secrets and dangerous plots."

However, when Fran's advice leads to a shocking event, the lives of these two very different women become intertwined by shared secrets and dangerous plots.

What follows is a compelling and manipulative game of cat and mouse. But just who is playing who?"

Brilliant series! Loved it. Could they make a follow up ? Eve Myles is so pretty.

She is, such a good actress too to go from psycho to a bit wet and back again.

I found Ria sooo dull though. Yes lovely accent but just that constant expressionless, bored looking face

Do we presume Fran and the fling will just let Ria empty the account without reprisals, are they still holed up in the seaside place or did they get arrested?

I think anyone who’s sorry it’s over should check out The Girlfriend on Prime. It’s similarly twisty, has the theme of a young woman of humble origins entering the world of the rich and has several cavernous plot holes along the way. I’m enjoying it so far.

And why was the poor old gardener suddenly put in a care home? He had been perfectly happy not long before, sitting with Ria and both chatting away .

Was implied he'd seen stuff but it was never actually revealed what. He just seemd to know so was packed off to a care home.

I think we all assumed that Ria’s filming of Fran having adulterous sex in Ep 1 would have a key role to play later. It turned out instead to be the anti-Chekhov’s revolver.

Edited

That filming seemed so important at the time. Sometimes it's almost as if they start recording the series before the whole thing's written. I'm sure that's not the case, but why include the filming if it's irrelevant to the story?

I'm starting to wonder if the series was hastily edited and a lot ended up on the cutting room floor? So many loose ends. 4 episodes is very short even for a mini series these days.

I think she filmed the adultery thinking that the evidence could he useful one day. She wasn’t perfect, she was nuanced - she lied to the police, she stole the crypto at the end. It made her a bit more sharp and interesting.

Why is the post hidden?

xmaspud3 · 23/09/2025 22:32

What actually happened to Anna though?! Presuming she ended up dead but no details at all.

Yeah, all we heard was that she was a drug mule, which we figured out weeks ago anyway. Not all that sinister really. All that searching for her and then not much. Yet another loose end.

Yep

I think my previous post was hidden as potential spam because I mentioned crypt0 in it. Probably quite sensible. 😆

Oh right I was confused cos I thought you were a genuine poster!

moto748e · 23/09/2025 23:32

The filming of Fran and Richard, and the twitching curtains, turned out to be just McGuffins, really. And the title, come to think about it. Thought they ended it pretty well. Fran disappears into the night with her big bag of cash, and it all comes up roses for Ria. Nice touch, I thought, that it looked as if Simon's murder wasn't carefully pre-planned at all; she can't have thought, I'll just batter my husband with a meat tenderiser. But when it happened, she just improvised from there.

IceandIndigo · 25/09/2025 22:37

I thought it was impressive how the police, despite their complete inability to locate Roa when she was prime suspect, had apparently wrapped up their whole murder investigation in two weeks, Ria was exonerated and Richard was already in prison for life?! Presumably this very rapid investigation didn’t include questioning storage unit lad, who would surely mention Ria having the thumb drives or whatever they were.

purpleme12 · 25/09/2025 22:47

Did it say Richard was in prison?

The storage unit also seemed like a pretty shit place to keep tons of illicit drugs worth a huge amount of money, what with the "security" lad barely out of his teens and easily distracted by a pretty girl.

Yes her friend mentioned it at the end, said he was in prison for life. Not sure what for, exactly. I don’t think you’d get life for attempted murder or drug offences.

purpleme12 · 25/09/2025 23:09

Oh must have missed that bit

Agree, but I think they'd opted for a 'happy ending' at that point. Not that Ria was that likeable a character anyway. She was pretty selfish, and mirrored Fran nicely.

IcedPurple · 26/09/2025 07:42

I also missed the bit about Richard being in prison. What about Fran? There was surely more evidence against her and Ria, yet both were flitting around as free women?

And they managed to catch Richard, try and sentence him before Ria figured out how to get the cash? Yes, I know it's the telly but it is a bit silly.

purpleme12 · 26/09/2025 07:50

Fran had escaped and was on the run from the police

So not really 'free'
