The Guest, the upcoming BBC thriller starring Eve Myles, has unveiled a devilish new trailer.

The four-part series (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a65286088/the-guest-first-look-bbc/) sees the Broadchurch (https://www.digitalspy.com/broadchurch/)and Torchwood (https://www.digitalspy.com/torchwood/) star portray Fran, a business owner who is thrust into a "toxic and beguiling" relationship with one of her employees, Ria (Gabrielle Creevy).

The Guest is a hugely entertaining, deftly plotted thriller that will have viewers gripped," said Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, while Nick Andrews, Head of Commissioning for BBC Cymru Wales, dubbed it a "a twisty-turny edge of your seat thriller".

"Ria has never had the time or opportunity to think about what she might actually want from the world," reads the logline.

"So, when she starts cleaning for Fran, she’s intoxicated by this confident and self-assured woman who encourages her to take control of her life.

When Ria flourishes, an intense friendship is forged. However, when Fran’s advice leads to a shocking event, the lives of these two very different women become intertwined by shared secrets and dangerous plots."

However, when Fran's advice leads to a shocking event, the lives of these two very different women become intertwined by shared secrets and dangerous plots.

What follows is a compelling and manipulative game of cat and mouse. But just who is playing who?"

The twisty thriller comes to screens this autumn.

What big car? It was a little blue one - (Cinquecento?) It was lovely and clean though!

OK maybe not big! But a nice new car would seem well beyond the budget of someone who can't afford basic food.

True. Maybe she bought it or started leasing it when they were better off. Maybe it was given to her by her parents. Or maybe she's broke because running a car is really expensive but she needs it for her job!

Or maybe it's just one of those TV drama implausibilities we're supposed to overlook!

I’m just surprised at the quality of the banister - wouldn’t have thought it would snap like matchsticks. Also thought it was cliched and implausible that she invited the guy back to the house and pretended it was hers. Hated the necklace . Still watching episode 2 though😃

the80sweregreat · 02/09/2025 19:01

The stairs were poorly made ! He really crashed through them didn’t he!
She needs a car for work , it wasn’t that big.

She was driving a tiny old Cinquecento - L reg (1993/4).

I didn’t see her driving anything else?

the80sweregreat · 02/09/2025 19:14

I thought the car looked quite old, but I couldn’t see the number plate.

I don't think a cleaner earning £10 an hour and having to nick food from charity bins would be able to afford any sort of car.

the80sweregreat · 02/09/2025 19:28

She was a cleaner going to people’s homes to earn money ! she needed a car for her all her cleaning stuff. . It may have been a gift or a small loan or something like that ? Her boyfriend did have a job before so they had two incomes at one stage.

the80sweregreat · 02/09/2025 19:37

Despite the dodgy stairs , it is one beautiful house isn’t it ! A real mansion

moto748e · 02/09/2025 19:41

You could get a car like that pretty cheap, it's old. She needs a car to earn a living.

the80sweregreat · 02/09/2025 19:43

My late sil was once really on her uppers , but she always had a car ! Old and on its last tyres, but you can’t work without one for so many jobs now. It is what it is !

How do you get yourself and your cleaning equipment to your clients without a car?

the80sweregreat · 02/09/2025 19:56

She needs a car to lug that old pink cleaner around !

CalzoneOnLegs · 02/09/2025 19:56

The boyfriend Lee is pathetic isn’t he ? with the emotional blackmail and she’s going along with it !

IcedPurple · 02/09/2025 19:56

I'm sorry I mentioned the bloody car now!

the80sweregreat · 02/09/2025 19:59

iced! I’m not being goady ! I do get what you’re saying , but it’s mostly her job I think that means she needs a car. She is self employed, so may be able to claim some kind of tax rebate or something? ( sorry, not up on tax affairs ! 😆) or vat refund ?

Like I said above, I wish I hadn't mentioned the bloody car!

I'm going to put it down to a typical TV implausibility that's needed for the plot.

And that is the last I'll say about it!

She could claim mileage for business expenses against her tax.

the80sweregreat · 02/09/2025 20:22

I’m so in awe of the house and the fact that Fran can’t put on or empty a dishwasher , yet run a million pound business lol
She is a cold fish

Does she really run a million pound business though?

I wonder if her entire life is not some sort of facade.

the80sweregreat · 02/09/2025 20:30

So far we know they have heaps of cash and a much better standard of living than most , so clearly the business is doing well!

CalzoneOnLegs · 02/09/2025 20:48

what a beautiful beach

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/09/2025 20:53

car was prob brought years ago and maybe she doesn’t have tax insurance etc as can’t afford it

where are the living ? Is it a squat /not meant to be there as she was anxious about being there
