The Guest, the upcoming BBC thriller starring Eve Myles, has unveiled a devilish new trailer.

The four-part series (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a65286088/the-guest-first-look-bbc/) sees the Broadchurch (https://www.digitalspy.com/broadchurch/)and Torchwood (https://www.digitalspy.com/torchwood/) star portray Fran, a business owner who is thrust into a "toxic and beguiling" relationship with one of her employees, Ria (Gabrielle Creevy).

The Guest is a hugely entertaining, deftly plotted thriller that will have viewers gripped," said Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, while Nick Andrews, Head of Commissioning for BBC Cymru Wales, dubbed it a "a twisty-turny edge of your seat thriller".

"Ria has never had the time or opportunity to think about what she might actually want from the world," reads the logline.

"So, when she starts cleaning for Fran, she’s intoxicated by this confident and self-assured woman who encourages her to take control of her life.

When Ria flourishes, an intense friendship is forged. However, when Fran’s advice leads to a shocking event, the lives of these two very different women become intertwined by shared secrets and dangerous plots."

However, when Fran's advice leads to a shocking event, the lives of these two very different women become intertwined by shared secrets and dangerous plots.

What follows is a compelling and manipulative game of cat and mouse. But just who is playing who?"

OP posts:
LillyPJ · 07/09/2025 22:12

I thought 'the guest' in the title would be the person Ria saw moving the curtains in the guest house.

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/09/2025 22:22

I did think that as well
tbh haven’t a clue 😂

butterpuffed · 08/09/2025 08:38

So the guest could be the person actually in the guest house, or Ria or Fran ?🤔

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/09/2025 08:55

Yes

to keep us guessing the guest

tho we saw the curtains move when she was with Fran so not her

Well the guy who ruined the impressive staircase was also a guest and it will all unfold from that.
i don’t have access to the BBC player but I did think Fran said to her husband ( is he her husband ? ) when he called her a different name that “….it’s xxx now.”
Or did i dream it ?

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/09/2025 13:39

I def don’t rem seeing that in e1

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 08/09/2025 13:45

We only saw simon at the beginning where he said hello im simon frannies husband

then he went / she said ring me from the airport. Which seems stilted and he said erm yes

then love you and kisses but it was awkward

I’m wondering if it is simon the husband who she saw twitch the curtains in the annexe and he’s hiding there

So it seems 'the guest' is Ria herself?

And what did she see in that photo at the end? Was it the Michael bloke who died?

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/09/2025 22:24

Yes it was Mike. So did Fran set him up with her and knowing he would be violent and ria kill him for Fran ?

annas diary is the old cleaner so why was that under the bed in the cottage

why did Fran hit the frame

It was the elderly Scot who called Ria the wrong name - the previous cleaner’s name. His son then corrected him and explained to Ria that his father is forgetful and mendacious. I suspect that he is not!

That beach ❤️ wow. Imagine being able to take winter walks there.

I like Fran’s silk shirt and trouser outfits.

At the end, Ria was scrolling Fran’s social media and saw a picture of the banisters guy on it. So he had met Fran. I suspect that he wasn’t solely a plumber, but someone who earns £150k per annum in a different way. We saw the cocaine in Fran’s imported antique when she started bashing it. Perhaps he had been a dealer under the guise of doing the plumbing for their business.

Great acting.

IcedPurple · 08/09/2025 22:31

I guess Ria hasn't got many options but does she not question why this rich older lady who barely knows her wants to be besties?

I thought it was slightly sinister when Fran told Ria to nick the bottle off the counter in the pub. She said something like 'If you don't get it, I'll sack you and you won't have a job or anywhere to live.' Clearly she enjoys the power she has over Ria, and I wonder where that will lead.

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/09/2025 22:40

Oh. I didn’t reliese drugs was in the frame

yes she isn’t very nice making her into a thief in the pub

pkus I wouldn’t want to walk over the sea on that bridge

I did wonder if ria was going to push Fran in and kill her but as only e2 it’s too soon

gardener dad warned her to go away. He obv knew the last cleaner Anna

wonder what happened to her

is she dead

So is Fran setting Ria up to dispose of Simon, somehow?

TennisWithDeborah · 08/09/2025 23:34

I think that Fran will claim that her husband beats her up and will offer Rea financial security in return for getting rid of him. She was aware (somehow) of Rea’s understandable revenge against her abusive stepfather so she knows that Rea would be disgusted by the idea of a violent man. She picked her for that reason I think. She wants to inherit his money and be free to be with her boyfriend (who she believes is willing to leave his wife, Eleri).

moto748e · 08/09/2025 23:54

Yeah, that's where I am, pretty much. But still not sure about the messages and Ria being followed. Is that all Fran's hand too, or someone else?

moto748e · 08/09/2025 23:55

Backstories are usually there for a reason.

Tuningfork · 09/09/2025 12:13

I've just watched last night's, what a cracking drama this is shaping up to be!
Did I see some white powder in the mirror frame that Fran was smashing up?

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/09/2025 13:31

Yes I had to relook after @TennisWithDeborah and yes drugs

Seemed to be. I thought it funny that she'd use such a clumsy method to extract the valuable white dust and allow it to blow all over the room, but I guess it's a TV drama after all! That the link with Mike was to do with drugs is obvious I think, and it's no accident that it came up in Ria's police interview.

Speaking of the police, would Ria really be allowed to travel freely like that? A man died violently and she was the only other person in the house. I guess they don't have enough evidence to charge her with anything but could she not be required to stay within the city until the investigation was concluded? Or does it not work like that?

moto748e · 09/09/2025 14:34

I can't believe there weren't grounds to drug-test Ria?

Timeforachange67 · 09/09/2025 15:22

And now Ria is in the guest house so where has the curtain twitcher from episode 1 gone?
