The Guest, the upcoming BBC thriller starring Eve Myles, has unveiled a devilish new trailer.

The four-part series (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a65286088/the-guest-first-look-bbc/) sees the Broadchurch (https://www.digitalspy.com/broadchurch/)and Torchwood (https://www.digitalspy.com/torchwood/) star portray Fran, a business owner who is thrust into a "toxic and beguiling" relationship with one of her employees, Ria (Gabrielle Creevy).

The Guest is a hugely entertaining, deftly plotted thriller that will have viewers gripped," said Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, while Nick Andrews, Head of Commissioning for BBC Cymru Wales, dubbed it a "a twisty-turny edge of your seat thriller".

"Ria has never had the time or opportunity to think about what she might actually want from the world," reads the logline.

"So, when she starts cleaning for Fran, she’s intoxicated by this confident and self-assured woman who encourages her to take control of her life.

When Ria flourishes, an intense friendship is forged. However, when Fran’s advice leads to a shocking event, the lives of these two very different women become intertwined by shared secrets and dangerous plots."

However, when Fran's advice leads to a shocking event, the lives of these two very different women become intertwined by shared secrets and dangerous plots.

What follows is a compelling and manipulative game of cat and mouse. But just who is playing who?"

It was a bit channel five at times. The big beautiful house, rich people etc. The one playing Ria is good though.

Oldglasses · 02/09/2025 09:07

I was also enjoying it until the bloke went postal at the end. There must be more to it for it to be on the bbc.
Agree re the necklace - the outfit was lovely but the necklace was gross!

General census was we enjoyed

Yes. The moody stares, the tense music, Eve's hair do, the jump scares. All that was missing was Jill Halfpenny and her tassly coat.

General census was we enjoyed

Yes same here. Perfect for downtime viewing. Nothing complicated and good acting, despite a predictable script.

And the lovely Welsh accent

Oh yes those accents ❤️

I really enjoyed it - enough to binge the second episode! Well worth continuing.

If anyone is interested in the house used - it’s Whitson Court near Newport:

IcedPurple · 02/09/2025 10:58

The necklace was ugly and really clashed with the outfit.

I wonder if it was just a 'look at how rich I am' thing or if it's going to turn out to have some significance later on?

placemats · 02/09/2025 11:02

Josie d'Arby is from Newport. I love that house.

BeaLola · 02/09/2025 11:22

Watched all episodes yesterday - will not comment too much so no spoilers.

Do like Eve Myles and she looked fab throughout.

I did laugh at the house being kept clean by the worn out looking Henry .

moto748e · 02/09/2025 12:03

There must be more to it for it to be on the bbc.

Must there though? We all go into new shows with our biases, but I imagine a lot of posters started on this thinking, it should be a quality show, on the BBC, it'll be classier than the daft shows we get on C5...

Will it, though? The BBC can churn out daft stuff just like anyone else.

I'll enjoy it as a bit of fun, but I'm a bit sorry it doesn't look like it's going to be a 'proper' drama; y'know, the ones in which the characters behave in an approximation to the way people behave IRL, not in TV script-land.

the80sweregreat · 02/09/2025 12:19

I like Eve Myles , but she seems a stilted in this and all that hair everywhere! It’s not bad acting , but it just feels strange, which may be how it’s filmed

the80sweregreat · 02/09/2025 12:20

You would need a team of people for that house ! Especially as Fran can’t empty a dishwasher.

butterpuffed · 02/09/2025 14:54

Both Ria and Fran are creepy, but in different ways . Ria's a good liar but don't know how she thought she'd pull off acting as a completely different person.

We don't know who the man in the guesthouse is ... yet to find out.

I thought the necklace was horrible too, big and chunky, didn't go with the dress.

I agree that they're both weird.

I thought it was interesting that Ria's first reaction on finding her boss shagging another man was to film it on her phone. If that were me I'd just slink away in horror! Especially as Ria was also cheating on her own boyfriend. Yes he was useless but that didn't make it OK for her to cheat and to invent an entirely new persona to do it. Did she really think she could have pulled it off long-term?

Artisanna · 02/09/2025 16:17

Just finished episode 1; I couldn't watch it last night because I was watching 'I fought the law'. I enjoyed it too. Intriguing and thrilling to watch.
I'm glad they are bringing more dramas on TV.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/09/2025 16:21

We are now heading into auTumn /winter so more dramas hopefully

I was enjoying it until she asked the guy round, pretending it was her house. So ridiculous, and from then on it went downhill for me. Not sure I'll watch next week.

I've just finished watching Ep1 (dozed off in the middle last night). I agree it's ridiculous - but I thought it was great! She could have just said in the pub that she was a cleaner and they could have lived happily ever after, but it wouldn't make good drama really. There were several gasp-out-loud moments towards the end and enough intrigue to tempt me to watch Ep2 before next week.

We think Fran set this house sitting up on purpose and came back purposely to see what Ria was upto. Seems like she’s pushing her into things even though she’s only known her a very short while. I bet she helps clear up the dead guy as she seems very odd character. Anyway that’s our thoughts here 🤣🤣🤣

It didn't strike me at the time, but thinking about it, I suspect you're right. The whole "I'm ten minutes away" thing; why not give Ria the max amount of notice?

There's game-play going on there.

She will have to help clear dead guy up as in her house

I bet she will be sympathetic but then maybe blackmail her or twist things to the police

Anyone else find it a bit odd that Ria, who can't afford peaches and resorts to taking food from donation bins, can somehow afford to run a nice big new car?

What big car? It was a little blue one - (Cinquecento?) It was lovely and clean though!
