Yy - Seema would have been good as a “direct” replacement for Samantha (career, fabulous frocks, relationship - similar priority order!) Also they didn’t need to make out Sam and Carrie fell out over money - moved to London to expand her business, can’t make Big’s funeral cos of being a key note speaker at a major conference or something would have been fine.

Sam would never have been that petty. She didn’t give a toss about stuff like that and I remember being forgiving and non judgemental.

Phase42 · 09/08/2025 19:12

So Lisette doesn't have a bathroom in her 'apartment'....have I got that right?!!

22 years.....oh please. Rewriting her own history. Did she mean Big for 22years? As it would be ridiculous if she meant Aiden.

I loved Charlotte being sad about Rose...this was authentic.

Phase42 · 09/08/2025 19:13

And (re the trailer) eating on your own in 2025 is not a big deal. I know a few very happy single people. It would be nice if they could recognise that it is absolutely fine to not be part of a couple.

SheilaFentiman · 09/08/2025 20:12

@Phase42 I think Lisette got the bathroom and Ezekiel the kitchen. Implausible, much??

SheilaFentiman · 09/08/2025 20:13

Honestly, they could've destroyed Carrie's attachment to the OG apartment just as convincingly if Lisette had knocked the closet through irreversibly :>

I took the Tums (and the fidgeting with her neckline) to be signs of stress over Aidan. Like when she came out in hives over a bridal dress in SATC (IIRC)

And threw up when she found Aidan's first engagement ring.

BabyCatFace · 09/08/2025 20:31

Place marking!

Newgirls · 09/08/2025 21:43

Surely thanksgiving will all be at Carrie’s house? Miranda’s gets a leak or something. So Carrie’s house feels like a home. Harry will come along. Pos even Duncan?

Phase42 · 09/08/2025 22:31

So Ezekiel has no bathroom in his home? Could this possibly ever be a thing?!!

TheCurious0range · 09/08/2025 22:47

I think Carrie will persuade Lisette to buy the basement apartment so she isn't alone and has a kitchen.
I really felt for Charlotte, she's been very supportive but it was good to see it isn't always just easy to accept your child isn't who you thought they would be (I think that was meant to echo Brady's story but he was likely to be a self obsessed twat because his mother is).
Anthony is right to cut the manchild free.
Harry is recovering from cancer if he wants to be at home for Thanksgiving I think that's fine.
Glad Aidan is gone. I liked him originally, but he got worse over the years not better and Carrie had never been selfless enough to enter the bees if his family life (no shade I wouldn't want to either!)
I'm not bothered about the other characters tbh.

I'm sad it's ending because it'll be no more if those characters, but there basically being ruined at this point (not as badly as the last film though). Kim Cattrall was right not to drag Samantha into the modern day, she's best remembered as she was.

What do you think will happen to the Wexley’s hamster? I think it will escape onto the mean streets of NYC where it will be savaged by Joy’s dogs. And then Joy will take it to vets and meet Che….

It will make its way to the street and find a gang of other runaway hamsters (one of whom is trans) and we will have a series of storylines involving these other hamsters and various other rodents that erode even further the time available for actual interesting plot. One will have a sister in law with a problem at work and another will have a coeliac child.

It just doesn’t make sense.

Doubleraspberry · 10/08/2025 10:14

I get the point that they wanted to ‘kill’ the old apartment. But doing it like that just makes no sense at all so it distracts us all! Just divide the bed/living area into two bedrooms and then they can both use the bathroom and kitchen surely? It would be really easy.

I wish, I really wish Carrie would mention Big. Yes, her relationship with Aidan spanned 22 years maybe, but they weren’t together the whole time and they weren’t married. Was Big not the love of her life? And he tragically died, but it’s like he never was?

All the reviews remark on this. Carrie's utter cheek at never mentioning Big when his money paid for her house and life of complete leisure.
I recently watched the SATC movie 2- wish I hadn't- and Carrie was a nightmare to be married to. She didn't earn any money and what she did she spent on shoes, didn't cook, and spent most of her time nagging Big to 'sparkle' when he came home tired after a day making money. What did she bring to the table? Charm and sex, I guess.

Lottapianos · 10/08/2025 10:57

'I wish, I really wish Carrie would mention Big'

Me too, and I couldn't stand Big. He was by far her most significant relationship, and they were married for a long time. SATC often did a fine job of mixing fluffy fun stuff with darker more emotional stuff, and Big's death could have been an opportunity to continue this in AJLT. His death in the first episode was such a shock, and the funeral, Carrie meeting Natasha again - it was all really well done. I know there have been allegations against Chris Noth, but they've made an absolute hash of handling it in seasons 2 and 3

Holluschickie · 10/08/2025 11:10

I couldn't stand Big when I first watched SATC. I now realise that Carrie was quite high maintenance herself.

SheilaFentiman · 10/08/2025 11:57

Yy. If they wanted to cut all mention of big, then they needed Carrie to discover something heinous like he had a secret family in Kansas or stole money off his mother or something. I understand cutting the flashback scenes with Chris Noth, but we aren’t so foolish to think a mention of the character is support for Noth!

Big obviously earned more than Carrie did through her writing, but they were married so that was their money. I see it referred to as his money here so often, but if Carrie was a MNer everyone would remind her that when they married they merged assets.
Reducing her career and her half of a happy marriage to just something to fuck when he's finished the Important Job of making money is just misogynistic.

Do you think so? I am all for sharing when married- we do ourselves- but they made her out to be really hard work in the movies. I went off her a bit.

Oh and I write books and articles myself, so I know how hard it is. SATC makes it seem it's easy. Nobody got 4 dollars a word from Vogue in the 90s!

She's always been hard work! She pretty much acknowledged that with the whole curly/ Katie girl schtick. She was a rounded, flawed character. He was hard work in different ways too, but what they had worked for them.
None of that changes that when they married, Carrie and Big merged assets though, like any other married couple. That's the legal, financial position with marriage.

Love all this …. My thoughts too… and just to add I think Joy will be gone too.

DemonsRocks · 10/08/2025 12:51

Did I blink and miss the Wexley kid on stage? I thought he had a starring role.
It seems like it was edited to hell and lots missing.

Holluschickie · 10/08/2025 13:14

True, sharing assets is the legal position. I doubt MNers would have told Carrie she was fine doing very little paid work for most of her life though.

Though one could argue being married to Big was a full time job.
It's odd she never mentioned him after S1.
