The thing with gluten and marriage is just so tenuous and ridiculous. As a metaphor, it fails completely.

Charlotte's vertigo was one of the most realistic things for me

I have it, mum has it, her brother had it. It comes and goes in the most bizarre way. I think we all developed the issues in our teens. But it can probably strike at any time.

I noticed a poster here said it was ridiculous that she didn't fall on the bed. It's not ridiculous at all. When I get vertigo, everything flips at an angle and goes upside down. So I will definitely fall at quite an exaggerated angle. So basically if I'm standing at the right hand bottom corner of a square, I would fall at the left-hand top corner of the square. It's horrendous. I live alone so it's a question of holding onto walls in order to make it to the toilet.

I really hope I don't get one of those massive attacks again. A lesser attack, if I take a pill, I can then go out to work or whatever after it kicks in.

I also found it interesting that one of her colleagues said she didn't think vertigo was a real thing. I definitely get that impression about some people.

Yeah the Bpv is triggered by menopause. It’s worth reading up on - vertigo is one of the symptoms made worse by low oestrogen

i agree I don’t want endless talk about hot flushes but it could have been done in a good way especially as she was the ‘perfect’ one. Something on empty nesting? Maybe it was all to come in another series.

Holluschickie · 19/08/2025 09:34

There are so many issues middle aged women face that could have been discussed. Menopause, ageism in the workplace, empty nest...

Instead time wasted on silly storylines like crystal deodorants ( twice) and all the ailments of the men plus endless pissing.

For instance, we never got to see what Seema's family thought of Adam. I am from a S Asian family myself and there might have been a fuss! Especially as S 1 showed they were very keen for her to find a partner.

ConstantlyFuriosa · 19/08/2025 09:50

Jonathon Cake/Duncan did nothing for me. The most enticing thing about him was being called ‘cake’.
Have rewatched the supposed ‘finale’. As we’ve all said before there’s no way this was written with an ending in mind. And as for MPK saying in one of the numerous articles linked to above, that they’d left the storylines open for fanfic to pick up on and expand is both laughable and insulting to viewer intelligence.
Anyway. It wasn’t as atrocious on a second watch if viewed as a solitary episode. To try to expunge the memory from my brain, though, I went back and rewatched An American Girl in Paris, Part Deux. And even though I’ve seen it so many times I suppose I’d forgotten that Carrie steps in shit, so maybe the shit scene was indeed a throwback to that!

I've been dealing with bouts of it for years. Men also get it.

Newgirls · 19/08/2025 10:11

I didn’t say meno was the only cause of it - but it is something more women get post 50 eg Charlotte. Not making this up - it’s a common symptom!

It's part of normal aging, that causes degeneration of the utricle (which contains the membrane that is supposed to have BPPV crystals)...

There are scores of triggers for it.

Newgirls · 19/08/2025 10:21

To be fair all meno symptoms are ‘normal aging’. Whether we want to put up with them is another matter. You see Miranda and Charlotte could have discussed this!

Meno symptoms are not a part of 'normal aging' for men, who also get BPPV - as do people going through other hormonal changes, like puberty, which is hardly due to loss of estrogen.

Ok you don’t believe me - feel free to Google.

I didn’t mind the Duncan character at first: a little bit grumpy, just interested in writing his book. It was when he started working with Carrie and gushing over her clearly shit writing, and that bizarre and very icky scene with her shoes.

StrictlySequinsandStiIettos · 19/08/2025 11:01

Well, at least he was only talking to them and not sniffing them! Wink

The whole point of LTW's character was that she was this incredible working mum, doing it all! As her producer guy once felt the need to shout out to a plane full of people.

Well no! Spending 8 years plus working on one series that doesn't have a buyer is not working!!! It's a hugely expensive vanity project that she must have been spending a fortune on.

Pretty sure she's not doing her own cleaning at home etc either.

I found this a fascinating insight into the writing team. Because they work in TV production. They know what hard work it is (and how hard that balance is for working mums especially) delivering for too little money in too little time for clients who aren't always sure what they want.
And yet what Lisa was doing wasn't that. She had no pressure of a delivery deadline, no client until PBS commissioned it, her husband was happy to bankroll it and one doc had taken 8 years. It's peak rich woman cos playing at having a real job, but somehow presented as a beyond busy working mum.

Yes, you get it too!!! Beyond infuriating. Especially to those of us who work in real, unglamorous, unsung jobs!

Yep - LTW had married well, good for her, but not relatable to the average Mum trying to hit genuine work deadlines, dealing with Elderly Parents who won't help themselves and wondering how they are going to come up with a Pirate costume for a 9year old with 24 hours' notice.

As I have often said, when I come back in the next life, I'm coming back as a Man. Or a Cat.

The reality of any rich people in Manhattan is that they have domestic staff to run their lives. The idea of LTW or Charlotte running themselves ragged just never felt authentic.

It was a weird production choice, although obviously that isn't a surprise.
They know that spending 8 years on one documentary, scheduling the on and off time around raising kids, is not the definition of busy telly mum, any more than Miranda dipping in and out of one legal case for 8 years would have shown us she was a busy lawyer mum.
It was very tell when it should have been more show - nothing we saw of Lisa's world actually showed us she was busy. She had one edit, with a very experienced Editor who wouldn't need her there 24/7, two pretty old teens and just one younger kid (plus a man baby husband). They had a car service account, money for cleaners and childcare, live in a 24/7 city where food can be delivered when suits...

Hfstjsufysyfykdhoxg · 21/08/2025 13:28

I was confused by Miranda throughout AJLT.

Why full frontal nudity?
Why such a clueless, ditzy character?
Why was she dressed in clothes designed to make her look flat (the silver jumpsuit at Charlotte's party, for example)?

Where were the power suits? The no-nonsense talking? The ambition?

As a previous poster said, it was clear that Carrie wasn't keen on Miranda any more.

Candlesburn · 22/08/2025 19:12

I really loved the final 2 episodes of SATC . They were so well done , the music was brillant and you got a real sense of satisfaction with each main character that they had achieved a good final ending in the series . I have rewatched it loads of times , which is unusual for me as when I find out how a series ends, I dont really want to rewatch .
For AJLT , the series went out as a damp squib and not with a bang . Ok as reported they may not have known really far in advance that the series was getting cancelled .It was however always a possibility , as the ratings had never been amazing and it did get a lot of critical flak for some of the ridiculous storylines .

I do wonder if the fact that SJP , KD & CN were executive producers too that this meant that some of the weaker plot lines got through and there was perhaps not enough objectivity about which characters were popular and working well . I do understand it would have been difficult to “sideline “ any of the main characters but some of the other characters eg Seema were not given enough screen time .

i understand that to get well known and established actors to sign on the bottom line , they will be offered other benefits eg to become an executive producer . I am not sure generally speaking how much sway , influence they would have . It certainly seems clear that SJP had a lot of influence .

We’re currently in Paris & DH took us on a tour of some of the iconic filming locations 😍
I’m definitely going to watch the last 2 episodes when we get home.
like PP have said I’ll miss AJLT even though it wasn’t great because I love the characters.

I’m coming very late to this as I’ve been away on holiday and I just could not manage to download it so I’ve totally avoided thread till now.

Wow episode 11 just seen

so many little things. Carries apartment with weird. the flat mate got the kitchen and living room. And the girl whose name I can’t remember got the bedroom closet. I can only think that they share the bathroom because It had two doors originally from hall to bedroom.

So I guess whoever is in the bathroom lock both doors

Wasn’t sure of the engagement cause he’s got a cold feet. I’m guessing they will not get married.

The musical we saw ROCK sing And DANCE, but what happened to the other boy with the lead part?

I’m guessing Carrie will buy the basement. And sell the house

Love the love with Seema and Gardner and he told her he loved her. She didn’t get that with her ex.

It’s a shame she never mentioned big. He was the love of her life tho the three girls were as well.

Brady’s hair, oh my fucking God. I get why Miranda wanted to invite the ex - Joy was funny with her dogs.

There was a lot of pies ordered.

I’m sure there’s bits that I have missed but I’m now gonna go and watch episode 12.

I stopped reading after all the comments of episode 11 so I don’t know what happened in 12 so here goes ……

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/08/2025 22:38

Oh yeah, I forgot the penis jokes little bit boring. I’m assuming he’ll get it up in episode 12.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/08/2025 23:09

Oh dear god !! I'm hard so they go day time shagging with lily there

Charlotte got her stuffing ha ha ha

I have forgotten who Mark was who gate crashed

Who the hell was the stutting dressed in blue person

Epcot I thought was a female but obv male

How was the turkey raw ? He wasn't gone that long

Mia seems a little rude

The turds via the toilet - well least me and Carrie didn't go home with him
