@HfstjsufysyfykdhoxgI thought Carrie was awful to Miranda. She was always selfish but when Miranda was right about that writer guy Carrie bit her head off - then next thing you know was in bed with the guy.

beeny · 23/08/2025 23:49

I agree, she was terrible when Miranda came to stay.

I'm not quite sure what prompted it, but I rewatched the second film tonight. My god, it is SO good compared to AJLT.
Don't get me wrong it's still awful, racist, misguided, tone deaf, a terrible terrible film.... But it has plot points that go somewhere, conversations between the lead women, shots of New York.

But this is where I really noticed how poorly they were treating Samantha and how bad her plotlines had become. As well as all the other stuff you mentioned.

On the basis of this film? I’m not surprised Kim Cattrall jumped ship.

Yup it's even more noticable rewatching, the hatchet job they've done on Samantha. The other three all have some interesting stuff about discovering or accepting who they are now - at home or at work - but Sam doesn't seem to be given any of that. Just the caricature. This smart, PR savvy, woman of the world squatting in the street shouting condoms and flipping the bird at the guys going to prayer?! We saw what AJLT did to everyone else so I can only imagine how bad her writing would have been.

Piffle11 · 24/08/2025 10:34

Am I right in thinking that’s what Kim originally said no to, a 3rd film? SJP and MPK were still trying to convince us that these characters ‘still had so much to say’, but KC didn’t agree. And can you blame her? As PP’s have said, her character was destroyed in that second film. It’s like the writer deliberately set out to humiliate SJ/KC.

Nope. Sorry. Give me three seasons of AJLT and even goddamn Che, compared with SATC 2.
It was beyond the abyss.
Sam - menopausal, disrespectful shrew
Charlotte - privileged, jealous sahm
Carrie - bored, naggy, unfaithful wife
Miranda - excitable, cringey support crutch
Big - old, lazy slob
Nanny - jiggly lesbian

Way too long, amazed it got made, astounded it did not put an end to the franchise there and then. <gavel> Wink Grin

After a gap of many years, last night I rewatched the final two episodes of SATC having been inspired to after reading some comments on here. I agree wholeheartedly with those thoughts - the last two episodes were a textbook example of how to end a much-loved show, so well-crafted. You can tell how much care and effort went into those making those episodes. I may invest in the blu ray box set to watch the deleted scenes.

Lottapianos · 24/08/2025 12:10

I agree @StrictlySequinsandStiIettos - it was an absolute abomination. I was just horrified by the 'Abu Dhabi Doo!' line and it went downhill from there. 'Lawrence of my labia' must be one of the worst lines in the history of script writing

Mark Kermode went on one of his epic rants about it - extremely funny and well worth looking up on YouTube. Also Lindy West's review of the film is worth a read - the last line is something like 'if this film shows what a woman is, then please stitch up all of my holes because I am DONE' 😁

Gowlett · 24/08/2025 12:14

Watched episode 12. Och… Goodbye, Carrie!
Enjoyed those final scenes with just her at home.

Why didn’t they ask Charlotte to check the turkey?

The toilet scene was indeed shite.
Liked the Miranda & Steve scene, ditto the Joy Vet bit.

The fashion show was good, but like the rest of the AJLT…
It just lacked the beating pulse that SATC had so much of.

No Aidan, though, which was a bonus!
Can’t believe he just fucked off without a fight… That’s him.

Some bits were a bit unbelievable, a theme of AJLT.
Lily knowing her parents were doing it? As if…

Adam pissing in front of Seema. Um, no way!
Brady’s friends were totally ridiculous as well.

I liked the Lisa & Marion thing, glad she didn’t go there.
He’s hot, but I love Herbert. He’s my ideal man!

Was BIG for me, first time around. But glad Carrie is herself.
I think they would have gone on… But we don’t need more!

Yeah, they would have really screwed her over. I also read somewhere that another reason she didn’t want to come back was because Patricia Field wouldn’t be dressing her. Which is totally fair enough - look at the horrors Miranda was wearing this last season of AJLT. I’m thinking of the hideous jumper/skirt combo when she was having dinner with Steve and Brady. Hideous!

Gowlett · 24/08/2025 13:17

The clothes were very costume. I liked Charlotte & Lisa’s.
And Carrie’s, of course! Hated the house high heels though!

Seema, had some nice clothes but so much brown, tan etc…
Miranda, the metallic jumpsuit at the part was horrendous!
