As the title says really! We’ve had a run of good box sets and can’t find the next thing to watch.

Watched and loved Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul, The Bear, Sucession, Slow Horses - basically all the ‘peak tv’ obvious suggestions one or both of us have watched. Sitcoms are good, The Office, Parks & Rec etc are all favourites. Hate anything involving dragons, women in bustles etc.

We’ve got Netflix, prime, Disney+ and Apple TV plus the free services like iPlayer and whatever the channel 4 one is called these days so we aren’t short of services to chose from, we just can’t find something that’s grabbing us and making us want to sit down night after night to binge it.

Also enjoyed The Sandman, Wednesday, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, Mindhunter…

Has anyone mentioned The Americans yet?

Just re-watched it, what a show.
Also love the original True Detective and True Detective: Night Country.

I have just discovered Waterfront on Netflix - it's SO SO SO GOOD!! The acting, the screenplay etc it's absolutely brilliant! Best thing I watched in a very(!) long time. It's very different to Breaking Bad and Ozark, but on the drugs smuggling topic and truly superb. Can't recommend it enough

if you liked The Good Place and Shrinking you might also enjoy Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (genuinely believe these are 2 of the best shows ever written, apart from maybe Friends, and super underrated) in terms of humour. They were on Netflix but both moved elsewhere now I think. Defending the Guilty (Amazon), sadly ended too early after only one season courtesy of COVID intervening, is also fantastic for comedy.

And as you mentioned Severance, I’d also highly recommend Travelers (Netflix) and the 3percent (Netflix) in terms of “sci-fi/dystopia”. You might also like “Death Game” on Amazon.

I liked Big Mood (channel 4) for recent British comedy.

The Afterparty (Apple) is quite fun, a murder mystery/comedy mashup.

Extraordinary Attorney Woo (Netflix) is really fun, a Korean legal drama about a lawyer with autism.

Big Little Lies (Amazon), and Nine Perfect Strangers (Amazon) if you haven’t seen them are great, kind of White Lotus type vibes.

Honestly if you like shows like "Breaking Bad" you will really like "Waterfront". It's brilliant!!!

I didn’t see Line of Duty when it was on terrestrial tv. Watching it now on Netflix. I think it’s brilliant and well worth a watch if you haven’t seen it before.

Mrs Bigg is now on Netflix, started watching last night. Sheridan Smith is amazing in it at Ronnie Bigg’s wife and got a well deserved BAFTA. Highly recommend.

stayathomer · 15/08/2025 07:54

For comedy I’d say Brooklyn 99 or modern family or Derry girls

icebearforpresident · 16/08/2025 23:09

It’s scary how often I find myself singing songs from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Which is fine when it’s something like I’m a Good Person, but slightly problematic when you catch yourself singing First Penis I saw out loud.

The Afterparty was a brilliant show, but season 2 was a disappointment after season 1 I blame Jack Whitehall

As I mentioned in my last post, DH and I started Shrinking on Apple TV. We’ve finished it now and I loved it (I really want a rock from Liz 😂), DH was amused enough by it.

Since finishing it a few nights ago we have started on the new Alien spinoff, Alien/Earth, which is good but on week to week, and Families Like Ours on iPlayer, we’re only 2 episodes into so far but is fantastic! It starts with the government of Denmark announcing that the whole country is being closed due to rising sea levels. It’s a bit dystopian but also scarily realistic.

I don’t know if it’s available in the UK yet but I highly recommend The Pitt.

I loved this, best thing I’ve seen in a while

icebearforpresident · 17/08/2025 12:06

Those if you who have suggested The Pitt, how are you managing to watch it? I loved ER, watched it at the time and my husband and rewatched all 15 seasons about 18 months ago (if I’m only remembered for one thing after I’m gone it will be how much I cried when Mark died), desperate to watch The Pitt as well.

@icebearforpresident I don’t expect we’ll see The Pitt this side of the pond until HBO Max launches as a streaming service in the UK in 2026, I think they are holding it back for that, it should well have been on Sky Atlantic by now….

I’m not in the UK and close to the states. I wonder if you could watch it with a VPN?

Resident alien on Netflix, all the 9-1-1 series, Will Trent or High Potential on Disney or the Chicago Med/Fire/PD series on Prime. All very entertaining.
