As the title says really! We’ve had a run of good box sets and can’t find the next thing to watch.

Watched and loved Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul, The Bear, Sucession, Slow Horses - basically all the ‘peak tv’ obvious suggestions one or both of us have watched. Sitcoms are good, The Office, Parks & Rec etc are all favourites. Hate anything involving dragons, women in bustles etc.

We’ve got Netflix, prime, Disney+ and Apple TV plus the free services like iPlayer and whatever the channel 4 one is called these days so we aren’t short of services to chose from, we just can’t find something that’s grabbing us and making us want to sit down night after night to binge it.

I'm currently watching The Assassin and will watch the second series of The Gone on BBC2 tonight.

I liked Mixtape on iplayer and for something different Operation Dark Phone: Murder by text is an excellent 4 parter on channel 4 about the police breaking the encrochat encrypted phone network used by criminals.

HeathenPlayingHouse · 31/07/2025 20:05

You said you’ve seen a lot of popular stuff, but I would definitely recommend Reacher on Prime if you haven’t watched it yet.

solando · 31/07/2025 20:07

I'm watching the first series of The Gone now, saw series 2 was on and realised I haven't watched series 1

Doidontimmm · 31/07/2025 20:08

just finished the Veil on Ch4 really good

RaininSummer · 31/07/2025 20:08

Handmaids Tale. All seasons on channel 4.

GnomeDePlume · 31/07/2025 20:09

Prime Suspect (especially the first one) - you will see where a lot of detective dramas started

Waking The Dead - again, see where a lot of cold case dramas started.

Doidontimmm · 31/07/2025 20:08

just finished the Veil on Ch4 really good

This. Only 6 short episodes and really easy to watch.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 31/07/2025 20:11

Bosch

Bubbles332 · 31/07/2025 20:13

The Bear on Disney + is great but brace yourself to be really really hungry and spend weeks afterward cooking elaborate dishes to satisfy your new cravings.

Skissors · 31/07/2025 20:14

Department Q as pp have said

Karen Pirie is good - on series 2 atm.

Ludwig is comedy and crime - on iplayer.
I enjoyed a Good Girls Guide To Murder. Its based on teen fiction but I liked it.

fruitandvegoverload · 31/07/2025 20:15

The Sopranos, Snowfall, Ozark, Bad Sisters. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Mandy, Murderbot, Such Brave Girls. .

crumpet · 31/07/2025 20:16

maybe some British programmes such as
Happy Valley
W1A
Detectorists
Line of Duty
Thick of It
Also Race across the World

Strawberrri · 31/07/2025 20:16

I enjoyed Outrageous about the Mitford sisters, their relationship with Hitler.

Frostynoman · 31/07/2025 20:18

Definitely Dept Q - I’d start there personally. Just finished Disclaimer on Apple - not my usual but quite compelling.lots of good suggestions upthread too. Loved Shrinking - if you want non gritty then start there.

Saucery · 31/07/2025 20:18

Boardwalk Empire.
Unforgotten - the first 4 series are on Netflix so no annoying adverts spoiling the flow.
Lockwood And Co -sadly not commissioned for a second series, but the first one was excellent.
Extraordinary - young woman fails to develop the superpower at 18 that everyone else has.
I second Sneaky Pete.

thebear1 · 31/07/2025 20:19

Sopranos, brilliant show.

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 31/07/2025 20:20

We've had a bit of an Aussie Noir binge and really liked Black Snow(esp season 1) and Survivors. Personally didn't like This City is Ours, too run of the mill gangster shite.

Notsurewheretostarthere · 31/07/2025 20:27

Yellowstone. I was gutted when we got to the end of it.

Have you done Ozark?

ElectricCaterpillar · 31/07/2025 20:30

You haven’t mentioned if you’ve done the other peak tv series: Narcos, Ozarks, The Wire, Mad Men, The Bureau (French spy drama that’s won every award going, total genius) Severance
A brilliant Italian series that doesn’t get nearly enough exposure - My Brilliant Friend - adaptation of the Elena Ferrante novels.
Also - The Man in the High Castle, The Queen’s Gambit, Manhunter, The Handmaid’s Tale, although think it jumped the shark later on.

Comedy
Fisk
Jury Duty
Colin from Accounts
Many years old but great - Peep Show, W1A

WimbyAce · 31/07/2025 20:36

Some good dramas about at the moment, currently watching Karen Pirie series 2 and Suspicion on ITV. Also working my way through Grace and Ridley.

LindtLindor · 31/07/2025 20:38

Delphigirl · 31/07/2025 19:25

Just started watching Tehran on Apple TV, it’s excellent

Does that get better? I was gripped the first episode and then it seemed to peter out so I gave up.

solando · 31/07/2025 20:41

The Blacklist, on 4 has lots of series

Didnotseethiscoming25 · 31/07/2025 20:43

Yes watch Dept Q it's great, mobland is watchable and sounds like your vibe but not as good as dept Q

Didnotseethiscoming25 · 31/07/2025 20:43
