Hot tip! Dept. Q on Netflix (since yesterday). It grabbed me by the throat in the first 5 minutes and never let go. I was 5 episodes in before I could bear to pause (at 1am). Now I need to try to make the remaining episodes last a bit longer 🙃

It’s a dark cold-case police drama set in Edinburgh. Apologies if there is already a thread about it but I couldn’t find one. Matthew Goode is excellent and so is everyone else in it. Can’t recommend it enough!

I quite like this. Saw the Danish one years ago which was very good but can't remember what happened now so will stick with this.

I also thought the gunman was a certain someone based on the eyes but it doesn’t really make any sense if it is.

Also who are we thinking the kidnappers are? They aren’t showing us their identities so assume it has to be people we’ve already seen?

Thanks to this thread I started it last night. Am halfway through episode 2 and am enjoying it so far. It's the whole series based on book one? 9 episodes compared to 1.5 hours of the original adaptation. Can't wait for dd to go to bed so I can continue with it.

I've got two episodes to go. I've seen the face of one of the kidnappers and I'm still none the wiser but I do have a very poor memory for faces.

If we're thinking of the same person then that's partly why I think it is them - it's always someone unexpected

Anyone know who plays Merrit's Dad?

Just started this tonight. Watched ep 1 which I felt was a bit plodding to begin with. Had guessed something about Merritt but not the second bit (IYKWIM). Realised who her brother’s carer was partway though - the character in Harry Potter who was a ghost in the toilet (Myrtle??). Looking forward to ep 2
but I’ll start it tomorrow as I’m too tired now!

I binged all nine at once. It’s slow to get going but it gets you hooked.

Are all 9 eps about the abduction and the chamber or do they do other cases?

Hmmm, not sure. Husband really enjoying it. I just find the whole scenario extremely unrealistic.

There's the ongoing lackadaisical investigation into who shot Morck and Hardy.

Really hope there is a second one as this provided a lot of work in Edinburgh last year - I do a bit of freelance work as an extra/supporting artist and although I was never asked to be on this one, lots of people I met on other productions had worked on it.

I started watching it last night and stopped halfway through episode two because I found it upsetting. I'll go back to it today though. Lots of 'weel kent' faces from Scottish acting too. My new binge watch

It gets better and better. Episode one I wasn’t very sure about it but it does improve. I find the scenes on the underground bunker almost impossible to watch. It’s very disturbing. Also I really don’t think we need the f word in every sentence. Literally every sentence. It doesn’t add anything.

Yes but any other cold cases or does the hidden chamber story go on for 9 eps? I seem to recall the Danish one had a separate really disturbing case with missing children.

@Gloriia , if you go on the IMDB app you get a break down of what each episode covers. As most posters including myself haven't finished yet it's probably best to not post spoilers.

I was merely asking someone who'd watched 9 eps if there were any other cold cases I wasn't asking for spoilers. It would seem a stretch to make this one story last 9 eps.

I was wondering this too. DH and I were pondering the format and if there was the overarching investigation in to the shooting and then a cold case every couple of episodes. But maybe not?

So pleased to see this thread. I was halfway through episode 1 when it clicked that I had read the books, and enjoyed them too. The setting change to Scotland completely foxed me, sadly all those detective books/ series I have binged have done nothing for my observational skills!
