What’s the best TV Series you’ve watched in the last 5 years?

For me it’s the German Series Dark on Netflix and the American series 1883 which is Paramount + but has now turned up on Netflix.

Dark which was about time travel really made you think and 1883 about Pioneer life/Cowboys was just quietly beautiful

Loved Farscape. If you liked that, you might enjoy Killjoys.

I'll try that thank you

Cheguevarahamster · 11/05/2025 21:31

Andor. Utter brilliance.

Quercus5 · 11/05/2025 21:35

Discovery of Witches and 1883

#1 Big Boys
#2 Lost Boys and Fairies (I can't believe nobody else has mentioned this!)
#3 Disclaimer (I thought it was crap and nearly gave up on it but then when you realise why the sex scenes are so weird it's actually really clever and profound and sad)
#4 Hacks (I know this is not going to happen but please, universe, can they get together in the final series!!!!)
#5 Rivals

Yellowstone and prequels
Outlander
Walking Dead

HarrietsweetHarriet · 11/05/2025 21:43

Stranger Things
Slow Horses
Black Doves
Bad Sisters
Hoping for another series of Line of Duty
Motherland
Man on the Inside ( gentle and sweet, for when I need a break from too much violence)
Currently on The Fall (though some scenes are too disturbing so we fast forward a bit).

I loved loved loved ‘1883’. Best out of all Paramount offerings and a class above Yellowstone (did like it but rambled, repeated and really Dallas/dynasty with cowboys). In similar vein I really enjoyed The English.

Severence. Give the first episode a chance, I had a few goes. But. You. Do. Have. To. Pay. Attention. (Or you miss the details and subtext.). Ditto Silo.

Just finished The stolen girl on Disney . Not cult tv but better than most in that category.

Sopranos - I know , ‘obvious’

I preferred Better Call Saul than Breaking Bad which deteriorated in latter half- just lots of violence.

in lockdown I wateched a lot of scandinoir and foreign stuff- the bridge, Bergen recommended.

my fav of all time (almost 14 years of tv to catch up if you can find it)- Spiral (French based cop/ legal where boundaries of good/bad not just blurred but overturned).

ERest · 11/05/2025 21:48

Hustle was one of my best series, and I'd watch it again and again if I can.

Doitrightnow · 11/05/2025 21:49

The Serpent (2021). I've never felt such suspense.

And Ozark! How could I forget that?!

Ozark seasons 1 and 2 were absolute genius TV, but it all went downhill in the later seasons and the ending was TERRIBLE.

Happy Valley (season 1 especially) was amazing.

McMafia was also brilliant.

James Norton is in both but so so different - shows his incredible range as an actor.

BobbySox71 · 11/05/2025 22:13

Any of the Yellowstone series
Blue Bloods, Tom Selleck is still great and love the family dynamics

ShergarAgain · 11/05/2025 22:16

Better Call Saul. The break halfway through the final series was left on such a massive cliffhanger that I worried something might happen to me and I’d never know how it ended. Astonishingly well scripted, brilliant characters who you really invested in, the best screen baddie of all time in Lalo Salamanca, and the cinematography was breathtaking. I worked in Albuquerque for a few weeks in 2001 and this and Breaking Bad just hit different for me. Much preferred BCS to BB though.

Kimthemac · 11/05/2025 22:30

Yellowstone - theeee best thing I’ve ever watched in my life

handmaids tale-

GeneralWaste · 11/05/2025 22:58

Some great suggestions here, I’ve made a little list to check out. Here’s a couple from me.

Money Heist - a group of people plan to rob the Royal Mint of Spain. Intense and beautifully shot. Watch it in original Spanish to really feel the characters. Loved this.

The Boys - bad Superheroes. Violent, gross and very funny.

There’s loads more but particularly enjoyed these two.

Oh, and definitely older than 5 years but Homeland is totally gripping - troubled female CIA operative in various overseas locations.

bruffin · 11/05/2025 23:12

Queens Gambit

anon666 · 11/05/2025 23:24

Succession, Motherland, Lost (although I get that was a long overdue catchup 🤣)

Teasloth · 11/05/2025 23:27

House.

Not that it was made in last 5 years but it's a favourite I watch again and again

FrillySocksAndDocs · 11/05/2025 23:34

Camping
The cockfields (series one)
