Join DI Humphrey Goodman as we return to Shipton Abbott for a brand-new series on BBC

The team faces a host of baffling cases in the upcoming series, including

a body discovered in a river on the county border,

a perplexing chocolate box poisoning, a long-standing farming feud

and a spiking incident at sea.

Away from the police station, Martha and Humphrey must overcome unexpected hurdles as foster parents, while the reappearance of Martha’s old flame Archie presents an unexpected challenge.

I like Martha’s blue & white striped shirt, lovely soft blue.

I’ve never watched Beyond Paradise or Death in Paradise, but saw tonight’s episode being promoted and seems like something I might enjoy. Can I start from this new series or should I start from the first series? What’s the connection between ‘Beyond’ and ‘Death in’?

Humphrey was originally the detective in DIP and he and Martha met on that show.

This was a really good episode.

butterpuffed · 29/03/2025 09:02

I didn't think it was as good as the stories in the last series.

Why was there a scene which lingered with the women trying to outdo each other with shoving more and more cream and jam on the scones ? And what was going on with the policewoman and policeman from a different town snogging each other so wildly !!!!!

I like humour in programmes but it all seemed a bit OTT ! The humour with Martha and Kelby in the police station IS funny .

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 29/03/2025 09:25

Surely that was a Devon vs. Cornwall, cream then jam (wrong, obviously 😉😆) vs. jam then cream scone-off rivalry?

That was what I thought. Isn’t there an underlying tension because it is set in Devon but filmed in Cornwall which came out in scones and with the other detectives. Wonder if we will see a broader cast with the detectives, Archie and Martha’s mum

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/03/2025 22:24

Just watched. I thought it was the partner as he didn’t seem that bothered

i was right

and the other 2 officers were arsee

the funny bit was the scones and which way they did cream and jam

TBF I thought Hugh Dennis was behind it all right from his first phone call, but it was nicely played out.

Do we think Archie is up to no good?

2Rebecca · 30/03/2025 20:03

I hate Humphrey’s MIL. I would be moving far away from her. He’s they are renting her house but I’d change the locks as she has no boundaries

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/03/2025 20:05

I still can’t believe they made mum go into the boat and they have her house

surely her dbs would be ok now so she can live there as well

OP posts:
2Rebecca · 30/03/2025 20:33

dbs?

2Rebecca · 30/03/2025 20:34

I hate the way the Devon police have to be unrealistically stupid. It’s like a children’s story

2Rebecca · 30/03/2025 20:48

Cornwall police. I thought Humphrey was in Cornwall but the ‘baddy idiot police” are Cornwall

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/03/2025 20:52

2Rebecca · 30/03/2025 20:33

dbs?

Police check. Mum didn’t have time for one before the first asap foster and they couldn’t do it on the boat easily as think a toddler so they swapped to her house and mum on the boat

Who do they think is going to look after this child? They both have busy jobs and hardly see each other. Is Martha being sweet and sappy thought to portray mumsiness by the BBC and time to look after a sprog a who is likely to have behaviour problems a minor issue?
I also don’t want my daft police storylines diluted by more sentimentality.
