We love a ch5 drama. Usually unbelievable but fun to watch

A chilling new drama series is coming to Channel 5 in the coming weeks, with none other than Sir David Suchet in one of the leading roles.

The new series is coming to Channel 5 on Monday 10th March at 9pm, as it promises to delve "into the complexities of family, trust and hidden truths, against the backdrop of the picturesque British countryside".

Episodes will air across four nights, with the finale airing on Thursday 13th March at 9pm.

The Au Pair would air on the channel, telling the story of a diabetic father (Agatha Christie's Poirot star Suchet) who moves next door to his daughter Zoe (Beyond Paradise (www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/beyond-paradise-season-3-bbc-release-date/)'s Sally Bretton).

But when Zoe hires French au pair Sandrine (Ludmilla Makowski), she triggers an unsettling shift in the household.

Sally Bretton, of Not Going Out, Death in Paradise and Beyond Paradise fame, is leading the cast as mother-of-two Zoe Dalton. David Suchet plays her father George.

Vera's Kenny Doughty plays Zoe’s husband Chris. Lupin's Ludmilla Makowski is Sandrine, the "beguiling young French woman", who Zoe hires as an au pair.

Zoe is a woman who appears to have everything: a handsome and successful husband, two adorable stepchildren and a stunning home in a beautiful English town.

But, you guessed it, everything is about to go wrong for Zoe.

Yes, Zoe makes the unwise decision to hire Sandrine as an au pair. She's described as a young French woman who "triggers an unsettling shift in the household, as instincts and suspicions arise, hinting at hidden agendas and long-concealed truths".

The makers also hint that not everything is as it seems in Zoe's marriage. And that the couple are facing marital issues, while Zoe's dad George moving in next door further complicates life.

The series is written by Michael Foott (Desperate Measures) and Andy Bayliss (The Good Ship Murder (www.whattowatch.com/watching-guides/the-good-ship-murder-cast-plot-trailer-and-everything-we-know)
).

The gorgeous house belonged to his first wife. Didn’t Zoe mention that in episode 1? I felt it was very rushed at the end, I didn’t notice that Zoe was pregnant though. I watched all of it, loved the house, but wondered why she had put an ad for the au pair on the back wall of the exclusive clothes shop!

Zoe went to the hospital in one of the early episodes to have a scan where it confirmed she was pregnant .

Zoe went to the hospital in one of the early episodes to have a scan where it confirmed she was pregnant .

Plus they said last night as was 6mths on they didn’t want to alarm /stress her with her dad

which I took to meant she’s about to pop

tho did she stand up /was there a bump ?

I just rewound the last episode to almost the end. They said Zoe was due to give birth the following month. She wasn’t very big when she stood up though, but that’s possible. The baby belonging to Amber’s best friend was very small for a six month old!
Perhaps Sally Bretton will be added to the channel 4 regular actresses for forthcoming dramas if the other regulars are missing.
Sally Lindsey is back in the Madame Blanc mysteries next Thursday. Very easy watching and some good guest stars. Looking forward to it.

The playing happy families at the end, seriously?!
This was a young lady in dire need of some serious psychiatric intervention!
I enjoyed it but the acting was awful. The Suchet guy just came across as a weird little creep.

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/03/2025 18:41

They all seem to love her as step mum now

thi maybe as their dad is an arse and sells babies and was going to sell her best friends baby

as well as sold step mums baby

I watched 2 episodes this afternoon. What an absolute pile of plop. I think maybe the cast was embarrassed to be in it so didn’t bother trying to act.

autisticbookworm · 17/03/2025 09:39

I’ve just watched it all. It was ok but the acting was very dubious especially the wife and husband. The layout of it with the big reveal early on was quite good, usually it would be dragged out to the final episode. Watchable but not great.

purpleme12 · 17/03/2025 23:38

I enjoyed it

I battled through last night and it was utter drivel. I have seen way better acting in high schools and the plot was rubbish. What’s next for a hate watch then?

I have binge watched it as I am poorly (that’s my excuse 🤣). Totally ludicrous throughout.

Just caught up with the last episode... absolutely flipping hilarious! I was actually laughing out loud at the nonsense! Great fun, will miss it😁

just watched it. enjoyed it but ended up with so many questions.
such a big house, yet the au-pairs room was full of junk.
how did George go from being an invalid to going to france. and drinking whiskey.
how did he survive.
how did they do a scan over clothes. (reminded me of daphnee in neighbours)
at the end had they moved?

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/03/2025 17:48

I assumed they moved as was living in dead wives house and now hubby in prison and she seemed to have her step kids

He’d be too young, surely? Maybe not in tv-land.
I think he altered the hospital records though.

Kenny Doughty is 50 irl so plausible?

So Sally Bretton was supposed to be 35 in this?
