We love a ch5 drama. Usually unbelievable but fun to watch

A chilling new drama series is coming to Channel 5 in the coming weeks, with none other than Sir David Suchet in one of the leading roles.

The new series is coming to Channel 5 on Monday 10th March at 9pm, as it promises to delve "into the complexities of family, trust and hidden truths, against the backdrop of the picturesque British countryside".

Episodes will air across four nights, with the finale airing on Thursday 13th March at 9pm.

The Au Pair would air on the channel, telling the story of a diabetic father (Agatha Christie's Poirot star Suchet) who moves next door to his daughter Zoe (Beyond Paradise (www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/beyond-paradise-season-3-bbc-release-date/)'s Sally Bretton).

But when Zoe hires French au pair Sandrine (Ludmilla Makowski), she triggers an unsettling shift in the household.

Sally Bretton, of Not Going Out, Death in Paradise and Beyond Paradise fame, is leading the cast as mother-of-two Zoe Dalton. David Suchet plays her father George.

Vera's Kenny Doughty plays Zoe’s husband Chris. Lupin's Ludmilla Makowski is Sandrine, the "beguiling young French woman", who Zoe hires as an au pair.

Zoe is a woman who appears to have everything: a handsome and successful husband, two adorable stepchildren and a stunning home in a beautiful English town.

But, you guessed it, everything is about to go wrong for Zoe.

Yes, Zoe makes the unwise decision to hire Sandrine as an au pair. She's described as a young French woman who "triggers an unsettling shift in the household, as instincts and suspicions arise, hinting at hidden agendas and long-concealed truths".

The makers also hint that not everything is as it seems in Zoe's marriage. And that the couple are facing marital issues, while Zoe's dad George moving in next door further complicates life.

The series is written by Michael Foott (Desperate Measures) and Andy Bayliss (The Good Ship Murder (www.whattowatch.com/watching-guides/the-good-ship-murder-cast-plot-trailer-and-everything-we-know)
).

I love these dramas Blondes, thank you.

I’m recording this and will binge at the weekend.

I remember Pauline, and Jo Joyner with the plastic sheet, so funny. Usually Jill Halfpenny and Sally Lindsay are in them, so this cast makes a nice change.

Bet there’s a drowning though, they love a good drowning scene on C5.
Catch up with you all when I’ve watched it. Hope it’s as daft as all the others.

Well, there is a curtain that Sandrine hides behind.
But the biggest mystery is why David Suchet signed up for such drivel.
And why do kids at a posh school get there by walking through a woods? 🤔

😂

the80sweregreat · 10/03/2025 21:52

Posh kids always have to walk or ride through the woods because they go to fee paying schools where walking on the pavement is forbidden.
David Suchet probably fancied an easy part that wasn't badly paid !
Sheridan smith isn't in this one which is sad as she might have liven it up a bit

the80sweregreat · 10/03/2025 21:55

I do have house envy .. it's so glossy and clean and large with a pretty garden and actual net curtains on the patio doors !
Now she is going to drug Zoe , who I do actually feel sorry for

Wakemeupbe4yougogo · 10/03/2025 21:55

Dear Lord, what am I watching........

Surely someone wrote this script as a joke??!?!

the80sweregreat · 10/03/2025 21:56

This au pair is totally evil

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/03/2025 21:57

  • Premise:
  • Zoe Dalton (Sally Bretton) appears to have a seemingly perfect life, with a successful tailoring business, a loving husband Chris (Kenny Doughty), two stepchildren, and a beautiful home.
  • The Problem:
  • Beneath the surface, Zoe is facing marital issues, and things become even more complicated when her diabetic father, George (David Suchet), moves in next door.
  • The Solution (or the problem):
  • To ease the burden, Zoe and Chris decide to hire an au pair, who arrives in the form of Sandrine (Ludmilla Makowski), a beguiling young French woman.
  • The Unsettling Shift:
  • Sandrine's arrival triggers an unsettling shift in the household, with instincts and suspicions arising, hinting at hidden agendas and long-concealed truths.
  • David Suchet's Return:
  • The series marks David Suchet's first TV acting job since 2018's Press, and he has described the series as "a real page-turner".

although the house was, as always, beautiful 😍

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/03/2025 22:37

Tech she does need him at the clinic as the man has to give his permission to use his frozen sperm even in embroys that he agreed to at the time

the law is wrong as if agreed to it at the time he can change his mind and nothing the woman can do sadly

I had placenta previa tho in my case By third trimester it had moved itself so no need for a cs in the end

tho I did bleed badly after and rushed off to surgery as delivery room floor was totally covered with my blood

yes there is a risk of happening again. I was advised not to get preg for a couple of years after

The script is atrocious, and timing awful...but as you said @Blondeshavemorefun it is Ch 5...
"HIS BLOOD SUGAR'S DANGEROUSLY LOW!!" she shouts,
Then give him some more insulin...oh, wait, you just have...

lazymum99 · 11/03/2025 10:03

Haven’t t watched it but have just read this thread. Sounds hysterically awful. Will binge when my brain can’t cope with any complicated storylines. Like to see a beautiful house and someone behind a curtain as well!
