We love a ch5 drama. Usually unbelievable but fun to watch

A chilling new drama series is coming to Channel 5 in the coming weeks, with none other than Sir David Suchet in one of the leading roles.

The new series is coming to Channel 5 on Monday 10th March at 9pm, as it promises to delve "into the complexities of family, trust and hidden truths, against the backdrop of the picturesque British countryside".

Episodes will air across four nights, with the finale airing on Thursday 13th March at 9pm.

The Au Pair would air on the channel, telling the story of a diabetic father (Agatha Christie's Poirot star Suchet) who moves next door to his daughter Zoe (Beyond Paradise (www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/beyond-paradise-season-3-bbc-release-date/)'s Sally Bretton).

But when Zoe hires French au pair Sandrine (Ludmilla Makowski), she triggers an unsettling shift in the household.

Sally Bretton, of Not Going Out, Death in Paradise and Beyond Paradise fame, is leading the cast as mother-of-two Zoe Dalton. David Suchet plays her father George.

Vera's Kenny Doughty plays Zoe’s husband Chris. Lupin's Ludmilla Makowski is Sandrine, the "beguiling young French woman", who Zoe hires as an au pair.

Zoe is a woman who appears to have everything: a handsome and successful husband, two adorable stepchildren and a stunning home in a beautiful English town.

But, you guessed it, everything is about to go wrong for Zoe.

Yes, Zoe makes the unwise decision to hire Sandrine as an au pair. She's described as a young French woman who "triggers an unsettling shift in the household, as instincts and suspicions arise, hinting at hidden agendas and long-concealed truths".

The makers also hint that not everything is as it seems in Zoe's marriage. And that the couple are facing marital issues, while Zoe's dad George moving in next door further complicates life.

The series is written by Michael Foott (Desperate Measures) and Andy Bayliss (The Good Ship Murder (www.whattowatch.com/watching-guides/the-good-ship-murder-cast-plot-trailer-and-everything-we-know)
).

I'd be questioning the locked laundry door, the bread board on the floor of the hallway and why my teenage daughter ( who looks around 27 ) would like a tapestry present or why they wear such awful clothes. Especially Noah.
They went to the hospital and back within 20 minutes and nobody seemed to miss them much and how the au pair thought that wearing a raincoat with a hood would be the ultimate disguise.
The wheelbarrow thing looked like an old ice cream bicycle they had in the 1930s , that was cool for transporting people about though and yes, it was a bit like a scene from ET !
The scan over the gown was odd and she must be more than five weeks gone surely ?
At least they have discovered she's a baddie rather quickly and not during the final episode. So that was different

the80sweregreat · 12/03/2025 06:39

Is the mysterious French woman in episode one at the start a friend of Saubine's dad or something like that ?
She has to be significant.

the80sweregreat · 12/03/2025 06:52

The au pair didn't turn the mobile phone tracker off.
I know she was mega stressed, but that a school girl error.
Makes me wonder what the next 2 episodes can be about now they know she is doing all this or will she go into hiding ? Lots of woods to hide in.

Enjoying reading everyone's views of what happens, I couldn't wait, even though it's a bit rubbish, it's enjoyable rubbish, the acting is some of the worst I have seen for a series though some others have come close. My 5 was advertising Cuckoo which iirc was a bit similar.

Oneearringlost · 12/03/2025 07:28

Sorry, got to disagree that it gets better. I actually felt mildly depressed by the end because I felt we'd been insulted, as an audience, in that the scriptwriter actually could think they could write something so abysmal and people would watch ( well, I did, so he was right, there!).
I cringed so much at the lazy plot line, atrocious script that I wondered how the actors could bring themselves to be part of it.
I looked up the scriptwriter, name of Andy Bayliss, who has written The Good Ship Murder which I caught 2 minutes of, some time ago and reminded me of some dreadful, 70s trash.

"Unforgotton" it isn't!

the80sweregreat · 12/03/2025 07:41

Cuckoo was similar, but they didn't guess she was the baddie till the end , so it is a bit different.
I'll carry on with it though. The house and the scenery is worth it

the80sweregreat · 12/03/2025 10:24

Zoe's dad seems a bit sinister.
He was a bit over friendly with the au pair at one point. Although might be reading too much into it

VanillaImpulse · 12/03/2025 10:28

What am I missing about Pauline and a curtain? I feel like I need to see this! Where is it from?

the80sweregreat · 12/03/2025 10:40

Vanilla
There was a channel five drama on a while back called ' the teacher ' ( I think it was this one but might be wrong ) with Sheridan smith.
Somehow , one of the characters called Pauline , was overhearing a conversation from behind a curtain in the kitchen ( it was filmed in Poland or somewhere but pretending to be the UK )
It was so funny how the curtain goes back and there she is! We all pondered why they have a curtained off area in a kitchen.

Inkanta · 12/03/2025 10:43

Watched it all. Really good👍

Maybe he trafficked Zoe's baby to an abuse ring or something.
The potential au pair coming for the interview looked nice. How would Sandrine have known when she was coming to intercept ?

I thought that was Sandrine.
Or did Zoe say she was a regular client in which case it wasn’t.
I will stick with it, if only to see how it ends, then be cross with myself for wasting four hours!

the80sweregreat · 12/03/2025 11:34

Sandrine was talking to a woman in a cafe in episode one in France. She gave her some paperwork and sent her to Zoe's house

the80sweregreat · 12/03/2025 11:56

Sabotaging Noah's bike in the first episode was straight out of the ' Saltburn' film !

Oh yes, I forgot her. I was thinking of the glamorous woman with a blue scarf wrapped round her head and sunglasses who looked rather out of place in the Cotswolds.

the80sweregreat · 12/03/2025 12:02

The au pair sushi

the80sweregreat · 12/03/2025 12:03

The au pair disguised herself to see off the other au pair!

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/03/2025 12:54

it’s a running joke now on ch5 dramas

I’m not sure S knew it had a tracker. Even Zoe looked shocked so guessing only dad knew tracked on phone
