We love a ch5 drama. Usually unbelievable but fun to watch

A chilling new drama series is coming to Channel 5 in the coming weeks, with none other than Sir David Suchet in one of the leading roles.

The new series is coming to Channel 5 on Monday 10th March at 9pm, as it promises to delve "into the complexities of family, trust and hidden truths, against the backdrop of the picturesque British countryside".

Episodes will air across four nights, with the finale airing on Thursday 13th March at 9pm.

The Au Pair would air on the channel, telling the story of a diabetic father (Agatha Christie's Poirot star Suchet) who moves next door to his daughter Zoe (Beyond Paradise (www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/beyond-paradise-season-3-bbc-release-date/)'s Sally Bretton).

But when Zoe hires French au pair Sandrine (Ludmilla Makowski), she triggers an unsettling shift in the household.

Sally Bretton, of Not Going Out, Death in Paradise and Beyond Paradise fame, is leading the cast as mother-of-two Zoe Dalton. David Suchet plays her father George.

Vera's Kenny Doughty plays Zoe’s husband Chris. Lupin's Ludmilla Makowski is Sandrine, the "beguiling young French woman", who Zoe hires as an au pair.

Zoe is a woman who appears to have everything: a handsome and successful husband, two adorable stepchildren and a stunning home in a beautiful English town.

But, you guessed it, everything is about to go wrong for Zoe.

Yes, Zoe makes the unwise decision to hire Sandrine as an au pair. She's described as a young French woman who "triggers an unsettling shift in the household, as instincts and suspicions arise, hinting at hidden agendas and long-concealed truths".

The makers also hint that not everything is as it seems in Zoe's marriage. And that the couple are facing marital issues, while Zoe's dad George moving in next door further complicates life.

The series is written by Michael Foott (Desperate Measures) and Andy Bayliss (The Good Ship Murder (www.whattowatch.com/watching-guides/the-good-ship-murder-cast-plot-trailer-and-everything-we-know)
).

Seems it's taken its ideas from The Hand That Rocked the Cradle 🤣

The script is atrocious, and timing awful...but as you said @Blondeshavemorefun it is Ch 5...
"HIS BLOOD SUGAR'S DANGEROUSLY LOW!!" she shouts,
Then give him some more insulin...oh, wait, you just have...

Well they like to state the obvious 😂

wonder how long they have been together as doesn’t seem long but obv lob enough to get married and preg and lose a baby 🥲

Sure Zoe mentioned 2 years of getting the kids to like her when she was in the bath?
Can't believe I got sucked into watching this but no doubt will watch the rest!

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/03/2025 13:59

Ah. Well listened @Timeforachange67

wondering why the au pair hates her. But she likes kids and anyone hurting kids

so guess S was hurt /abused as a child - but why does that involve Zoe

Got to be something from the past, maybe Zoe was her Au pair! Having said that you think Zoe would put 2 and 2 together if she encountered a French child in the past

the80sweregreat · 11/03/2025 14:17

The au pair has many scars. Maybe from childhood ?
My thinking is it's something to do with Zoe's dad , but that might be a red herring.

I was thinking this as she drugged him

and making him poorly

She drugged him but I felt it's all aimed more at Zoe

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/03/2025 14:51

Tho S hasn’t done anything to hubby yet

Maybe she's Zoe's daughter who was adopted

And her parents abused her so she wants revenge for Zoe putting her up for adoption!

butterpuffed · 11/03/2025 15:23

This is hysterical , Love it !!!

The hospital would've given the dad blood tests but they missed a load of drugs in his system ~ ooops !

The au pair doesn't seem to be targeting Chris , does she want him for herself 🤔

BoreOfWhabylon · 11/03/2025 16:11

Well, I tried to watch it but it's just dire.

The Cotswolds? Really? Unlike any Cotswold scenery I've ever encountered.
Then the insulin for low blood sugar!

I had to switch off.

RedRiverShore5 · 11/03/2025 16:31

I'm on episode 4, no spoilers, but I'm loving it, I will watch the thread to see what others think.

Serpentstooth · 11/03/2025 19:21

Filmed in Ireland, masquerading as Cotswolds. Disorienting!

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/03/2025 21:17

Silvers11 · 11/03/2025 21:29

It's unbelievably bad. But I can't switch it off !!

purpleme12 · 11/03/2025 21:41

Well I was kind of right! She is her daughter isn't she!

purpleme12 · 11/03/2025 21:42

And must have been adopted out without her knowing!

Papergirl1968 · 11/03/2025 21:44

Agghh, it gets worse! It’s so bad it’s good 😂

Serpentstooth · 11/03/2025 22:46

Oh it's terrible but . . .I may drop out and rely on the stalwarts on this thread to keep me updated, thank you all. I don't think I can give it another 2 hours.

CherryogDog · 11/03/2025 22:58

I'm really enjoying it in a weird way, as I'm swearing at the au pair, neighbours must be wondering what's going on 😀

Papergirl1968 · 11/03/2025 23:03

I laughed at the body in the bike-wheelbarrow thing. For some reason it reminded me of ET.
So far we’ve had Sandrine poisoning David Suchet/messing with his diabetic meds, nearly drowning Zoe, knocking Zoe off her stool, and whacking Amber with a chopping board. I thought she was going to chuck Amber in the river until she miraculously came round and ran off.
Phew!
And as Daily Mirror readers pointed out, how did they manage to do an ultrasound over a hospital gown?
We have another two episodes of this tosh to go.

MoonWoman69 · 11/03/2025 23:03

Badly overacted! I'm disappointed with David Suchet for getting on board with this! It looked like it had promise when it was advertised, it's just drivel I'm afraid. Watched the first one and shook my head all the way through it! Sorry!

BarMonaco · 11/03/2025 23:11

I'm enjoying it. It reminds me of those American daytime Channel 5 films which I record with the format of
"Nanny/long lost adopted sister wheedles herself into a family.
She is evil but appears nice.
Everything starts to go wrong and no one connects it with the imposter but blames a family member, who realises the imposter is evil etc."
