Can't see a thread about it. We loved it. Sat down together to watch it just like we did some of the earlier ones when the kids were little (in their 30s now!). What a terrific job the voice actor playing Wallace did! Just like Peter Sallis.

You’re very welcome!

I think I was worried because Curse of the Were Rabbit, while good, had a lot of studio interference from DreamWorks and was very watered down in comparison to the half hour shorts.

This film however, shows Wallace and Gromit can do feature length outings without having to pander to the US market.

InWithThePlums · 30/12/2024 16:31

Not sure if it is on the Reddit list but I think the bit where part of Wallace’s shoes get chopped off is a reference to the horror film The Cottage.

There is a Laurel and Hardy short where they are unknowingly drinking bootleg alcohol from a well while camping, Stanley starts chopping firewood and does exactly the same thing to Ollie's foot / shoe.

Ah, both films were probably referencing that then. I made the link because I think it’s Reece Shearsmith’s character who gets his toes/foot chopped in The Cottage.

I'm going to belatedly add that I wondered if the bit where Gromit wrestles with Feathers dressed as a nun is a reference to the bell tower scene from Black Narcissus

Mochudubh · 31/12/2024 18:56

I've only just realised that it's set in Lancashire, I always thought, probably because of Peter Sallis and Wensleydale, that it was set in Yorkshire. I know there was a sign with "Yorkshire Border" in a previous film but I thought it was the border OF Yorkshire, if you see what I mean.

The Yorkshire/Lancashire sign sent me to Google so now I know it's Wigan.

"Click all the items made of cheese"

Pedantically Wigan is in Greater Manchester, though historically Lancashire.

I on page 2 of the thread and I already can't believe how many little references in the film that I didn't notice!!

I can’t be the only person trying out saying ‘Wensleydale’ in my phone screen now, can I?

😂

purpleme12 · 31/12/2024 23:19

In A matter of loaf and death when Wallace is looking where to throw the bomb he looks out of the window to the Yorkshire border and looks like he's considering throwing the bomb into Yorkshire.

Feathers McGraw is one of THE BEST villains ever. I got my DS a Feathers McGraw water bottle (the red glove is the cap) and it always brings me joy when I look at it… or maybe I need to go out more 😅

noblegiraffe · 02/01/2025 17:23

I seriously covet one of those water bottles. I saw one in a shop and admired it and then walked on. Mistake!

DearestItIsSnowing · 02/01/2025 17:32

@noblegiraffe , I so admire your posts on schools that I googled it.

Look here

or here

or ehere for example.

Wallasey123 · 02/01/2025 17:37

@noblegiraffe we got ours from Argos if you’re still tempted! Though I’ve just googled and looks like I overpaid cos you can get it cheaper elsewhere. Typical.

noblegiraffe · 02/01/2025 17:55

❤️ thanks both! That's basically the universe telling me I'm fated to have one, isn't it? Grin

Given the Wallace and Gromit love on this thread I hope no-one minds if I mention The Grand Appeal, the charity which supports Bristol Children's Hospital and has strong links with Wallace and Gromit. My DC1 was treated at the BCH when he stopped breathing at 11 days old (he is now an overexcited nearly-5 year old doing laps of the house!) so this charity is very close to my heart.

The Grand Appeal - Bristol Children's Hospital Charity

We support Bristol Children's Hospital by funding pioneering, life-saving equipment and research. Look out for our Gromit Unleashed trails!
